I think it is all down to how much space you want to save and what will be the GPU. In addition how much are you willing to spend. I got i5-760 in a Lian Li Q08 m-ITX build with HD6870. so it saves space and there are hardly any compromises made.
Point being, you can easily go i5 (SB or not)...
Looks decent.
Only suggestion would be to get a faster, 1333Mhz RAM.
Also you should think about PW-IO4H515 IO ports for the case. That will add USB3 to your front panel. But I think it is not yet available.
awesome pics...
Define and Arc minis look like the same case, just different outside panels. One for noise cancellation, one for cooling.
Not too fond of Core one, but it looks to be an entry model though.
500-600W is enough depending on the overclock.
I have the system in my sig running at stock on a 425W Enermax. Haven't done full CPU and GPU sintetic stress test to push the system, but in terms of gaming I have had no problems what so ever.
Corsair 650 should be a decent unit.
I would look into some other - older drivers, something from mid 2007, early 2008. That is when ATI stopped supporting AGP on their monthly releases. I had an AGP card back then, so I had to use like half a year old drivers by the end of it.
You could look into Antec range
minuet 350
NSK2480
and use one of the bays to install card reader. Both come with PSU and support mATX if you want to have more choice of motherboards :) Plus they still look small enough.
When you say probably will have, does that mean that you will soon be building a new system, or you are thinking about puting an existing system in there?
On other note, will you be overclocking?
and are you willing to consider other choices. There are many cases with will be better at...
Another option could be Seasonic S12II 520W
And with that system 400W is plenty. My system in sig is running on a 430W Enermax without any problems. So it is unlikly that you are underpowered.
You will be OK. Saw someone somewhere (SPCR? or here maybe) do it in Antec ISK300-65 case with 65W PSU. He did undervolt the CPU, but underclocking was involved from what I recall.
What are your temps?
My parents old computer displayed similar problems as if would just freeze up and BSOD'ed. Upon restart would show that there is supposedly a HDD problem. I realized only after a while that the CPU was overheating and causing all this and not the HDD.
I got stock Intel cooler, but I am thinking of replacing it with either H50 if I decide to spend that much, or Scythe Samurai ZZ. As I do not plan to OC any time soon, either will do.
The max height to the PSU is about 115mm so there is not that much choice but enough. However!, biggest...
I have the system you are considering running right now (see my sig). I use Enermax Pro82+ PSU and I have problems what so ever with the setup stability under load. I have had few BSOD only when idle :S Only thing I somewhat regret is not going modular.
If you want a faster RAM, look into...
In terms of CPU sockets and future upgrades, Intel has not been that good lately, so what you see now is what you will get (limited upgrade path). Not sure about SB socket 1155 plans, but it would be a good thing to wait and see how it stacks up anyway.
In terms of RAID, you really have to...
In terms of motherboards, there is high end and mainstream. But the main underlying hardware is the same so the difference being that high end uses better components and has much more extra features. But fact is that most likely all the extra features will not be used by average user. Those are...
Corsair memory will be fine. It will be fine as long as it is reputable brand.
But the PSU at 1KW is an overkill indeed. Even 650 - 750W good quality would suffice for GTX460 SLI.
Also you should consider GTX580.
Any reason for that particular mobo? Another EVGA but 160 less, with SLI...
From the reviews I have seen the entire system power usage with 580SLI is aroung 700W, so a good quality 850W PSU should have no problem powering the system.
Then again extra headroom can't hurt, won't deny that. Just giving options.
Going with what have been said, you can save loads on memory, cause if you do not OC, then just get a cheaper one such as these G.Skill 3x4GB ones for $180
Also could save some one PSU by droping it to 850W, which will be plenty as well:
Corsair AX 850W 80+ Gold certified for $195 or
Corsair...
Just finished the game on the rig in my sig. Played on 1920x1080 resolution with all settings high.
Towards the end of the game fps droped to 30 and below but was playable (no noticable lag that was distracting). Note that all is at stock speeds.
What resolution will you game? If it is...
Looks like Fractal Design Define R3 might be a good choice.
But I must say that it very much depends on what are your priorities. R3 is a decent case from what I have read, but it aims at silence and not airflow and performance.
Can't say I was happy to see that Intel stock pre-applied paste was not evenly spread, but consisted of 3 lines on the base of the cooler.
Will let you know how it goes when I change the cooler to samuari zz (hope to do it this or next week)
BTW, aftermarket coolers come with termal paste...
I am guessing there are about 10mm from the cooler retention hole to the PCI-E slot and given that the holes are 75mm apart, that would give 100mm HSF width at best. Most tower coolers are wider that that. Also that would mean that it has to be 92mm fan on the cooler.
I have GA-H55N-USB3 mobo with i5 760.
Also have Radeon 6870.
The temp difference worries me because it only occurs under load, and I was expecting to have even load on all cores under prime95. Idle temps are roughly equal across the board.
The wierd thing is that I have 2 cores hitting around 80 while 2 cores stay at about 70. I think I might have installed the stock cooler improperly.
Looking to replace the stock cooler with Scythe Samurai ZZ in near future.
Installed another Enermax fan on the drive cage so that it blows on...
well at this point noise is alright, but what I really would like to improve is the airflow.
Even throuhg the CPU is running at around 80C, when I put my hand near exaust fan it is cool. Any ideas on how to make it more efficient at exausting hot air?
Basicly I would like to reduce noise when idling. I will be replacing CPU cooler with Samurai ZZ, which seems the best in terms of price and performace considering the limitations. (AXP-140 too expensive and availability not good in Latvia)
So next thing is case fans. Does anybody know what...
generally the differnece is packaging and the after sales support. Such as warranty and RMA process and how easy it is generally to deal with them if something does go wrong.
I would expect that 99% of the time that is nothing you should be worried about.
In addition there might be...
Indeed the purpose of this eludes me too.
I think there is no need for a CPU upgrade as long as that stays purely as a file server.
The only thing I can think of now is you should make sure that you have are enough SATA ports availabe for additional HDDs and the bay to put them in. Besides...
1k danny bui build looks decent,
As for 700 build I would say drop the CPU cooler and get a better GPU. You can always change the cooler and do the overclocking later down the road. It might be easier then selling old and buying a new and better graphics.
Also could go with X2 555 and hope...
In all honety I think that is the best choice. Go with what looks cooler. What I did and I am happy.
Installed Radeon 6870 last night, runs like a charm. The build might have been a bit sturdier, be careful with handling it with the sidepanels taken off. The fans are fairly quite and the...
