What makes you think the guberment would keep funding at the current level if this started happening? The first thing they would do is cut it. Do you think they would then lower taxes? Uh nooo that's not how it works.
Don't forget to unplug your network cables and modems. A guy I knew unplugged his computers during storms. It was funny (not for him) He had unplugged his computer, router and modem from power in his house. The lightning hit and went through his big calculator - jumped across to his external...
As another poster already mentioned. A lot of manufactures were having capacitor issues during this time frame. I don't remember model numbers but Gateway was another big company having known issues. And this wasn't restricted to Intel boards. Sounds to me like Dell needs a better document...
I highly recommend any responsible gun owner or non/moron with a gun owning friend stop buy your local computer repair shop and ask for an old dead computer. Find a private range or safe area and take out your aggression. It's tons of fun and an easy way to safely relive pent up technology...
I think you should stop here. Or we will have to come up with something better to say than "your talking out of your ass without any real world experience"
Your talking about the surface area of a .22 vs 9mm. And yes more surface area does allow the bullet to stop faster but the kinetic...
NOT true. I still have an 8800GT 512 that I would love to be able to purchase a new second card for SLI. 9800GT=8800GT=GTS 240 = no cheap SLI options for the future
Do what gushpinbob said first - if you need help understanding whats in event viewer just ask. -it can be a real pain when you first learn how to read it-
I would bet that it is a driver. - go to the manufacture website for your computer and update all of your hardware drivers. Keep us posted
Its hard to understand what you mean by plugging it in backwards but that doesn't matter just make sure you have the correct pins in the correct spots and it will work fine. Match the pins where they are on the standard connector to the other connector.
VCC=USBPOWER
Data0/1- = USBD-...
LMAO ^^^^
Use either a POWERED usb hub or plug your hard drive directly into the computer. I'm assuming your external is the 2.5" laptop drive type and that your not forgetting to use the power adapter that came with the 3.5" drive types.
Still laughing--
NO and NO
From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10P10C
Another use is with APC uninterruptible power supplies. In this case, it is a keyed 10P10C plug wit a protrusion on the pin 1 side near the back, it serves only to make the USB connection to the PC incompatible, forcing users...
I use Norton Ghost - you can find free programs but you will need one that you can install your raid controller card driver to so that it will see the array. BTW raid is a lot more complicated than you described and until you get to the maximum speed of your hard drive controller raid will be...
I know I have found a lot of modems and routers under books and stacks of paper. These devices need to breathe and were overheating. If yours isn't under anything you can still check to see if it is getting hot by putting your hand on it. Warm is fine but hot is not.(obviously)
This website is usually helpful. http://www.tech-faq.com/acer-bios-password.shtml
The last guy on [H] with a Toshiba and the same problem was helped by jwhazel but I have no idea where he got the fix.
Don't get tricked in to buying one of the cheap battery operated ones. Get one with a cord and you will be happier in the long run. I would bet my crappy battery powered dremel lasts about 5 minutes before needing recharged. And a spare/replacement battery cost more than the original dremel...
The splitter you linked to is for spiting the phone line before it gets to the modem and is NOT used to split the internet connection between computers. The one you listed is only used to eliminate the need to have a DSL filter at every phone connection used in your house. If you want to split...
If it were me I would start with completely dissembling the entire machine. You would be surprised by the number of times I have done this and the machine worked fine afterwords. The connections on internal laptop parts are small and you can't tell if they are seated properly just by looking...
Go to Dell's site and update all of the drivers. Hopefully you will catch the one that's causing your headache. My best guess is video,MB chipset, NIC
If you saw some message about a specific driver than it should be listed in event viewer - try looking there again. Keep us up to date.
Backup Exec is easy to use and setup - but it needs a baby sitter worse than anything else I have used in the past. I am currently using it with the remote agents for my Linux and older Novell servers. Don't make the mistake of putting in on a 64bit Windows server and trying to use the Novell...
You didn't get it narrowed down very well for us so it could be a lot of things. Try the basics first. If a print job is stuck it is very common to not want to clear from the print que until the system with the printer attached to it is rebooted. See if the desktop with the printer attached...
Yes you are completely right about the minerals/crap that could be left behind if you were to use tap water but I think its being a little overly cautious. As long as your not using Mississippi mud you should be just fine. And I am saying this from experience and the experience of others that...
Great job on finding the fix. Where was it if I might ask?
I know for a fact that some laptop manufactures do have a master password - I also highly doubt that it is the same for all laptops and is probably randomized for each one and stored in a database. Dell keeps track of the machines...
I haven't used True Image but I don't think this approach will work. RTFM
Edit. Oh yea - don't be afraid of RAID - once you get it figured out and choose what you want it should be a set once and forget experience. If you do a little reading and don't set your expectations to high RAID is...
The raid mode where two drives (or more) are striped and the last one is used for parity is raid 5. As mentioned before raid 5 with out a hardware based controller card will cause your system a performance hit. Raid 10 doesn't experience the same performance hit because it doesn't use a parity...
Yep - It's an AR-10 (only its the military model) uses the 308 Winchester or the 7.62x51 Nato (basically the same)
And I wouldn't call it a sniper rifle the 308 goes subsonic and looses accuracy at about 900-1000 yards.
I have used various brands over the years and my best recommendation is always to buy an APC within your price range. The more you spend the longer your computer will run before the batteries die.
What do you have your memory speed/timings/voltage set at? You can eliminate the hard drive as being a problem by going to WD's site and downloading their diagnostics software.
+1 for Kengston memory
The single stick ddr2 800 with the cas latency of 4 is worth the extra dollar
Sorry for the confusion I misread WHS ans HTPC... Stops scratching head:D
Looks like your all set. Are you going to be using one of those dynamic dns sites? Or are you going to bite the bullet and get business class ISP hosting to use your domain name?
Using a large bulky case for HTPC and a HTPC case for a webserver that can be turned on and stuck in the closet? Scratches head...
You don't need 2 gigs but it is soooo cheap right now you might as well get it. If you wait for a good deal you can pick up a 2 gig set for less than $20...
100% correct - I usually hate splitting hares and just added a quick quote that it is usually call it raid ten
this is a copy and paste from wikipediia~
"As there is no basic RAID level numbered larger than 9, nested RAIDs are usually unambiguously described by concatenating the numbers...

The link has a good explanation on raid controller conversion. I guess after doing it many times I just like the imaging option more than the controller based conversion(it can also be a lot faster). However imaging is not always an option and...
Antec NSK2480 = $64 - Did that include shipping? - if so that was a hell of a price. Where did you get it?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129034
= $119 + shipping
I would say the combo is a good choice. Gigabyte motherboards rock and the stock coolers aren't bad/loud. If you really want something quiet get one of the WD green drives and pickup a OEM CPU with something quieter but that's up to you on how much you want to spend. The ram question is moot...
