I have a clients computer in and it is a dell dimension 2400 desktop. I have tried removing the battery, resetting the bios, and removing the battery and unplugging everything for a whole night with no success. Any ideas? I just need to re-install windows on this thing and the f12 isn't giving me a cdrom drive option. Client doesn't remember password.

do a google search, I believe there is a dell master password for every machine they make... don't recall the details at the moment, but ran into a situation like this a while ago

edit: try this link, it might not be that easy anymore. Looks like you might have to short the eeprom to get past it, otherwise you might be stuck buying a new motherboard :(

I've got links for you to read for this that do not require you to be touching the motherboard...........at home. I'll re-post later tonight.

Unfortunately what I have works with Latitudes and SOME Inspirons only. Sorry.

Call dell if they are the registered owner of the machine dell will give you the master password for it.
