Ended up getting the RAM for Christmas. I'll play around with it when it ships. Once I successfully OC my CPU I'm sure the PC will last a few more years.
Good points all around. I do run multiple Internet windows and browsers simultaneously, and am looking at doing some music production. The question is whether the RAMdisk would be significamty faster than the SSD. I could experiment I guess, but then that leaves my system with 3gb of usable...
Well nothing specific. Standard stuff gaming, video encoding? I don't really understand ... are there no speed benefits to running a RamDisk? Is it only useful as a scratch disk? Is the benefit of Internet caching, TMP, Temp to a ramdisk just security.
Well As I prepare to wipe My system I came across this guide while researching SSD. http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=442160#post442160
got me interested in ramdisk and other tweaks. Of course illbe running win7 64bit.
Thanks for the inquiries. Both of you have given...
So I'm about to install 2 Intel x25-m 80GB SSD's and thought about upgrading some other aspects of my system (See sig).
I've heard some users are finding Q6600's are becoming bottlenecks when compared to the rest of their systems. So i gotta figure that my QX6850, awesome as it is, is on it's...
According to that link, you need to buy one of those programs. Dammit I'm no closer to making a decision. Leaning towards 2 seperate drives , though. Reading that extensive article at Anand Tech, it seems you need to keep 20% of the drive free. Does that mean make the final partition size 20%...
I guess my concern was in the event of the 2nd game/apps drive needing to que/communicate with the OS, a loss in speed would be introduced. Is it correct to assume that for TRIM and Garbage collection to work properly the respective drive(s) shouldn't be too full. Is 10% free still good enough...
I was talking about file corruption. or failed copies for whatever reason... Usually access being denied because the file is somehow in use by the computer. I'll have a look at TeraCopy and see how that goes
I'm in the exact same postition. Not sure whether there would be increased load time running the drives seperately. One 80gb for OS and apps and then the other 80gb for games and additional apps. Just got myself 2 80gb x25's. There are a two topics about whether to Raid or not but I'm still not...
Yeah I guess I could do that, along the exact same lines as drozenski's thoughts. My only concern, I guess, is copying that much data with the simple Copy Paste method might not be that secure. Is there truth to this? would Robocopy be a better choice? I assumed Windows Copying would introduce...
Hey [H]
So I'm going to reformat my PC and install win7 onto a x25 g2. (Haven't decided on whether I should raid0 or not) Anyway my scenario is this.
Right now I've got [2] WD 640's in Raid 0. This array has 3 partitions.
{D} - [400GB Parition - 239GB Used]
{E} - [500GB Partiion - 495GB...
I'm pretty sure that the raid 'controller' creates the array. So no, I don't think you can hot swap from one RAID array/configuration to another new one. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but by removing the drives and switching solutions you are basically destroying your first Array.
In...
I might start a new thread but thought I'd ask here first. Just got myself 2 80gb x25's. There are a two topics about whether to Raid or not but I'm still not sure. Perhaps I can expand on the situation. With SSD, is it better to minimize the number of Partitions?
Would there be more of a delay...
I got an Intel Core i7-860. I'm looking to trade it for an Intel X-25m -Generation 2 - 80GB SSD. The cpu is brand new and unused so I would expect the same from the SSD.
Otherwise I'm looking to buy the SSD, let me know if you don't find selling.
Hello [H] I'm trying to find some info about my onboard video card.
Anyone have a good program or method of quickly determinning a Video Card's capabilities. Specifically an onboard GPU.
I tried GPU-z but to no avail. Certain documentation tell me that my chipset will only support Open GL 1.4...
Sup [H].
I came across a particularly weird situation today with Outlook 07
Basically there are 2 users who recieve their Voicemail Phone Messages directly to their Inbox as .wav files.
Upon downloading these messages to listen, Outlook stores them all in a TEMP folder. The problem is...
Hey [H]
I just finished setting up, what I thought was, a simple network setup.
Basically I have 2 computers. One main computer and one media computer. The main computer is connected to a router thorough one Ethernet port, and then connected to the media computer through another Ethernet...
I'm fresh off last years deal for the QX6850. My sig has the rest of the big dirty. What do you guys think is it worth upgrading, or should I skip and wait till next year?
With the deals that are going around, it almost makes sense to plan all future builds around this program. But it...
Thanks for the direct link Zero, I just linked it from my email.
Yeah the onion does some quality stuff, but to be fair no complaints with my PS3 either.
A friend of mine emailed this to me, and at first I thought this was an early screening for the PS4, but on closer inspection this could so much more.
The potential for a device like this is
unimaginable
The Fall on Blu-Ray is all I have to say.
Seriously, once you see a DECENT Blu-Ray, there is no going back. I always check Blu-ray.com or high def digest to see how the video transfer compares.
Prices are coming down. I managed to get Band of Brothers on Blu-ray (brand new release) for $60...
What resolution are you playing at.
There's a rumored refresh of the GTX-280 that will be 55mm.
At the moment you will probably find the best deal at the GTX260 level. The new '216' versions are out and will probably drive the prices of the 'old' stock.
Get the 260 is my advice.
Decent Ram for the price.
If you don't mind dealing with MIR's then you can probably get some corsair or crucial ram. but I like these G.Skills. [$75]

As for the board, the P5Q series has...
No real easy way to do it that I could find.
Download Hitachi;s HD tool...google
burn the iso and boot from it.
Then set AAM to 255 or the max possible.
Restart and run HD tune again.. should be fine
Looks like EVGA is following with their own naming distinction... GTX 260 Core 216.
I thought about upgrading, but we'll see. Probably just wait for Fallout 3 and then jump.
Okay, I think I have this straight. Going into advanced properties (for both computers) and removing the checkmarks beside server, sharing, and workstation options for the NIC's that are used for the internet.... leaving the other NIC connections alone.
What do you mean by "remote the gateway...
So basically I don't need the crossover cable. Is there any way to use it anyway, or should i just connect the two computers with a standard patch cable?
Thanks for the advice. It's definetly a bit over my head but I shall use google and post back.
Hey Fellas, I'm in a bit of a pickle and need some assistance.
So I got my new build up and running and wanted to make my old computer a general server. A server for basically only this other (new) computer to access. All my media and documents are stored on the old server computer and I...
After having an overall terrible experience with eVGA and their Motherboards I swore I'd never buy another evga product again. Of course two days later I have a 9800GTX+ waiting in a box. I do kind of like eVGA precision and, correct me if I'm wrong, BFG does not allow end-users to OC their...
Wow, each of your cores are at 37 Celsius on idle. I think that is really good.
My CPU overall temp is 36 Degrees. Cores are around 50 Degrees on idle.
Please tell me how your OC'ing goes. What board are you using?
I'm in a similar situation. Thinking of selling my 8800gt, since I picked up a 9800GTX+. You could probably find a regular 9800GTX on the B/Sell for around $120. I bought mine NIB @ $170.
The other card worth getting, to hold you over, would be the ATi 4850.
So I currently have a 8800gt. Just got a brand new rig (see sig.)... and a couple of forums I've read say that there is a benefit, when going from a 8800gt to a 9800gtx+. I only game @ max of 1920x1080.
Too be honest I know I should probably get a GTX 260. I'm well out of step-up range for...
Hey P5Q'ers
Thanks everyone, especially SirKronan, for all your input about this board. I got everything installed, including a Scythe Ninja, without a hitch. Raid-0 seems to be working fine and this board is quite a bit quieter than than the 750iFTL.
So I'm going about trying to achieve...
Luckily for me NCIX is offering me a full refund for the 750iFTL :)
I decided to go with the P5Q Deluxe. I know it's a bit more expensive but it's similar to the cost of the 750i, and I'd feel bad about taking money from these guys (NCIX) after they completely waived the restocking fee, due to...
After being screwed over with my last mobo purchase I want to make sure this one is solid.
Anyone have any gripes or complaints?
I hear RAID (specifically RAID 10) is difficult with these boards?
I don't plan on using RAID 10, just RAID-0. I wasn't too impressed as the 750iFTW would have...
No problem man, glad to be of help.
Please let me know what board you end up going with, as I'll probably RMA this POS, and get an Asus or Gigabyte.
Cheers
I know it sounds like I keep sh*ting on EVGA, but you don't really know a company until you have to deal with them first hand.
EVGA's 'impressive' customer service has been pretty much standard for me. I found it no different than most other companies decent. Their email support was...
I'm having a silent war with EVGA right now, but I think they will end up winning, and I'll be out 15% restocking fee.
I have a QX6850 (rogan you get yours from retail edge? :))
I HAD/HAVE a 750iFTW from EVGA. I should never have left Asus I guess, but was not having good luck with their A8N...
