Deciding on a 40ish inch display for PC gaming

That chart shows about a 20% drop in brightness for about 1/5000 of a second, or about 1/40th of each frame at 120Hz. There's no way that will be visible to anyone, even subconsciously.

What is the most underrated monitor spec that indicates a monitor will be amazing?

Pixel type (TN vs IPS) I voted for this. I'd say that it is the most important feature that is often left off of spec sheets (If it isn't listed, it's probably TN). But I haven't really done any monitor shopping in a few years, and I think IPS is much more common than it used to be, so maybe...

    LG 48CX

I upgraded to 03.21.09. Looks like there are now perfect blacks in Dolby Vision video using the built-in apps. (I don't think we had that before) I still see some a raised black level with Dolby Vision through the Apple TV 4K. (maybe a touch darker now?) I'm still seeing issues with flickering...

    LG 48CX

The one thing I like is the Paper White option, so you can set the brightness of the UI separately from the game graphics. I'd like to see that in more places, such as the freakin TV OSD and subtitle settings (the apps I've seen have very crude control over subtitle color and brightness). I play...

    LG 48CX

I’ve had some issues, but not as commonly as that YouTuber. Here’s the worst example I’ve seen. In the first episode of “For All Mankind” on Apple TV+, at 35:19, there is this scene where it clips the black level. It’s some kind of Dolby Vision decoding issue, because even if I set brightness to...

I get about 1/60 of a second extra lag when enabling 120Hz BFI. (about 4 extra frames with a 240 FPS phone camera compared to with BFI off, using a keyboard LED as reference) 120 Hz BFI is one of the reasons I held out until this year to buy an OLED.

Don't Use Your iPad As A Camera

I kind of like using the iPad as a camera. What other camera has live-view on a large, high-quality 3 megapixel screen? That said, I don't use it much as a camera, and I don't have a cell phone as an alternative.

Eizo introduces a 36.4” 4K2K Monitor in Japan

A single sheet of 8.5X11 paper at 300 DPI is just about the same resolution as a 4k monitor. Most people can handle more than one sheet of paper on a desk. With current apps, it may be pointless, but I think there is a long way to go before added resolution is pointless

Breaking NEWS! Apple Removes The Home Button

    ~$1500 gaming build

    1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc Mostly gaming, web browsing and some Photoshop and other graphics programs. I like the CUDA capabilities of the NVIDIA cards. 2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included? $1500, very flexible, but I'd like...

    Dell U2311H

The 2405FPW is the first and worst LCD I've had. I don't think I could stand it for video use, due to the crushed blacks and colored ghosting. I'd personally rather have a TN. I've used several Dell and other brand IPS monitors, and I'd recommend any of them over the 2405FPW.

Holy crap, it worked! Dead video card, resurrected!

My 8800GTS died today. It would not display anything at boot. I searched to see if anyone else had this problem, and found out about the baking thing. I removed the heatsink/fan, baked the card top-side up at 385° for 9 minutes. 40 minutes later, I put it back together and back into my...

    IPS vs TN

PVA's crush blacks, but calibration can compensate for it when viewing straight on. If you look at an PVA monitor from an off-axis angle, you can see the dark grays/blacks that are crushed when viewed from straight on. On smaller devices like the iPhone and PSP, the close viewing distance...

    LED + IPS?

Maybe it is the layer above the LCD and not the one behind it that is bothering you? A lot of LED LCD displays are glossy, while most IPS displays have a grainy coating on them. I'm not too bothered by the grainy coating, but a lot of people are. The laptop I use has glossy coating, so...

    120hz Lag Testing... Test

Don't think about it too hard. Plasma screens update all at once. They do seem to have issues with the blue phosphors being faster, though. The Prad tool would be more useful if it changed columns for for the numbers every 10ms.

The best 23", 24" and 25-27" monitor currently out for $399 or less

Haha... not subjective.... If that were true, there would be a sticky at the top of this forum listing the best monitor for each price range. Each attribute can be objectively measured, but no one monitor is the best in every single category. What attributes you value the most is subjective...

    Dual 24" vs Single 30"

A lot of monitor lines have gotten worse over the past couple of years. I have the 3007-HC, but I'd rather have the non-HC version. I've mostly gotten used to the weird colors, though. I have a 20" 1200x1600 by a 30" 2560x1600. I wish the 20" was actually 3:4, instead of 4:3 in portrait...

3D monitor or not? That is the question.

Shutter glasses should give a better quality picture. In the case of the iZ3D, it is practically free to get more polarized glasses for additional viewers. I think this is the only reason most modern movie theaters use polarized glasses instead of shutter glasses. Movie theaters use circular...

3D monitor or not? That is the question.

You may want to try the anaglyph method first to see how well the games you play support 3D. I tried Half-Life 2 ep2 with my drivers set to anaglyph mode, and water wasn't rendered correctly, at any quality setting. (the NVidia drivers recently added this, it may not be on ATI cards)

    3007WFP-HC issue

When you use a lower resolution, the cause of the flicker is still there, but the pattern doesn't line up exactly right with the pixels. The flickering of the test pattern isn't really a problem, as you'll likely never run into a pattern like that in real use, it just helps to diagnose the...

Which Panel Lottery to Play? HP LP2065 or DELL UltraSharp 2007FP?

20 months ago, I paid $339 for a 2007WFP. ~$300 sounds reasonable for a new 22" IPS It's just that 1680x1050 IPS hasn't been available for a year or so.

    3007WFP-HC issue

My refurb didn't come with a cable. I tried the cable that I use for my 20" 1600*1200 screen. The cable was ordered directly from Hong Kong. While it worked perfectly with the 20", it caused the brightly colored subpixels in dark areas when connected to the 3007. After finally convincing...

Which Panel Lottery to Play? HP LP2065 or DELL UltraSharp 2007FP?

It is my understanding that the Pixel mapping issue is only relevant if you're going to be using your moniter with something besides a computer. 1280*720 is the only HD resolution it would suppoprt at 1:1 anyway, and that would make the video area quite small

Which Panel Lottery to Play? HP LP2065 or DELL UltraSharp 2007FP?

Dell has a 22" 16:10 ips coming out soon. 2209wa. It'll probably be priced in the low $300 range The UltraSharp 2007FP seems expensive when you can get a refurbished 3007WFP for $200 more.

    3007WFP-HC issue

My 3 most recent monitor purchases (all refurbs) have had this problem. The pixels on LCD monitors switch polarity at 30hz. If they all changed at the same time, the whole screen would flicker. To hide the flicker, half the pixels are changed at a time, in a pattern like a checkerboard. If...

The car in the free version is the easiest to control. I've been playing it since it came out. I don't really like any of the 6 extra environments in the pay version. There are many tracks that can't be finished if you make even a small mistake. Even if you make it past one hard area after...

    You choose: 2408WFP vs FP241VW vs LP2475w

Out of that list, I'd get the HP. But I got the refurbished Dell 3007WFP-HC, because it is bigger for about the same price as the HP. A TN would be fine for Gaming and web browsing. IPS is the only good choice for editing photos. I don't like using MVA at all.

Is this a quality 24" monitor? Could I do better?

I would recommend a refurbished 3007wfp-hc, as it is bigger, less expensive, and higher quality. Unfortunately it doesn't work with consoles, though you could get a less expensive TN panel for that.

    Dell Outlet - 3007WFP-HC for $749

I used a generic 3007WFP-HC profile before calibrating it with hardware. I think the generic profile is fine as long as you don't need it for previewing for print and such. Some video overlay still has gamut issues (skin color is off). The backlight is a bit uneven. The most annoying...
