Battlefield 6

I picked it up bought 80.00 in Steam Cards before I left work just the regular edition.

I'm wondering if I should skip the pre-order and wait till a Steam sale around Black Friday/Cyber Monday instead? Hmmm....

I think since BF4 most of the games haven't had a Black Friday sale, but maybe it was just BF2042. At the very least I would wait for the open beta to try the game. No idea why people would even preorder before that. It isn't like digital copies will sell out.

Yay more bullshit monetisation and microtransactions.....because we can't just sell a complete game anymore for a single price, we need to keep nickel and diming customers as if this a F2P experience.

I wouldn't mind a BF3/4 type of battle pass. The only issue with that is some maps may loose population after a while. The problem with BF2042 is they keep crazy micro transactions and the content was still not as good/much post release. EA really seems to want full AAA prices + micro transactions, and possibly an expensive battle pass.

Yup, the problem is EA, being the greedy fucks that they are, refuse to accept the new paradigm in the MP space that those types of microtransactions and battle passes are only considered acceptable in F2P games.

I'd really love to see this shit get banned somehow or other. Selling stuff separately that you just KNOW was originally part of the retail product which they decided to hide behind a paywall. At least with the expansion discs back in the day it was all new content that came out 6 months or a year later. But this microtransaction shit in games these days you're paying to unlock things that came with the game download and is just locked behind a paywall to bilk you out of more money. A lot of this stuff is unlockable through tedious grinding, but that's the point of it being a grind, so people will get fed up and just pay to unlock things instead of jumping through hoops to unlock items.

Well people buy it, so...

Here we are

I remember EA first trying this shit with BF4 by turning unlockable weapons and equipment into tedious grind fests to encourage paying for the unlocks. Hilariously this led to creative server admins hosting unlock servers with no kill rules so people could sprint between conquest flags on a small map to boost XP as quickly as possible.

It seems like there is enough competition with this type of genre that the battlefield series is less crucial for getting this kind of large scale semi casual war gaming fix than it used to be. The newest arma game looks fantastic

The graphics are garbage, the game has the same filter as the previous ones. They went to the point that those with a weak PC configuration also buy the game. To sell as much as possible. The movement is kind of strange and slow, as if it is dragging 100 kilos behind it. Mostly bad. Nothing new that hasn't already been seen in all previous sequels. Maybe they only increased the destruction. If it's for 5 euros later, maybe I'll buy it and play it a few times for a while.

So far all the live streams I've seen look great and If I have a similar experience with the open-beta later this week I'll get the pre-order. BF3 had issues during the open-beta but I still ended up buying the pre-order IIRC.

Well I stream just for fun.. If I get in the beta can I stream? I will give my honest opinion. I am not great at the games but use them to wind down from long days.

Arma Reforger is very different than battlefield

It sounds like from multiple posts Portal won't be at all like BF2042 where you can play with different time periods which will be disappointing. It sounds like it is just a mapmaker with only access to BF6 stuff.

I too am a bit underwhelming with the graphics, they look okay, but not quite ground breaking like BF3 was at the time. Would be disappointing if they held the graphics back for potato PCs. BF was never about competition, it should be the game that pushes gameplay and graphics.

I got the beta early, not really sure how it works, linked it to Steam, unsure of what to do next.

I think people are playing on "balanced" settings which is medium?

Did I miss any mention of how much the "battle pass" would be? Im assuming its going to be the standard price of everything else at like $10-$15 bucks?

If that's the case, Im more than likely to just grab the phantom edition.

I’m getting this just go get away from the manic Omni movement and ridiculous skins in BO6

Doubt you'll be getting away from anything.

Yeah, it is more like Squad. Too much waiting around and whatnot. ArmA is great for a single player game or co-op with a small group of friends. The PvP stuff is not fun.

There is the Red Orchestra/Rising Storm series, which is more like a realistic version of Battlefield. Though subsequent releases had less combined arms maps. Some of the developers from Rising Storm/Rising Storm 2 Vietnam are making '83, which is supposed to be similar. More realistic than the Battlefield games, but should not require the really long spawn/transport/communications type of gameplay things like Squad or Reforger have.
