Hi guys,
My very old (but seldom-used) MyBook Essential is my 2nd (ie, redundant) docs backup unit.
While trying to make space on it recently, I noticed a specific folder refusing to cooperate. Whenever I try deleting or accessing it, the MyBook just hangs and eventually gives me a Cyclic...
Just clean-installed Windows 11, and one of the first drivers I'd like to update is the GPU.
Keeping in my I'm running on a GTX 750 Ti (still the only card from that line being supported with regular driver updates to this day til I find my dream card) on a MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk WIFI... which...
Hi guys,
Not sure if this is a AMD-specific issue, a SAMSUNG one, or a MICROSOFT one... apologies if I picked the wrong forum; feel free to move the thread if we find the problem and it turns out to have nothing to do with AMD.
1. The new rig
With the help of the HF crew (notably pendragon1...
Hi guys,
Upgraded to an AMD 5900x / MSI x570 Tomahawk WiFi build over the summer. Everything is latest tech (no mechanical drives) except the video card, which I kept from the old build for now (GTX 750 Ti). Running on Win 10 (off of a legit Win 7 license) but not logged into any Microsoft...
Getting a bit nostalgic; I remember posting here for advice on a new build over a decade ago, and that advice (Core I7 920 + P6T MB) turned out to be so reliable that I've been running on that rig ever since... right up until last weekend, when the second component in as many months failed on...
I've been using a Brother MFC-240C for the past 5 years or so. I hate this thing because despite printing PALE most of the time to save ink, this thing drinks it up like there's no tomorrow. Plus, it flat-out refuses to print if so much as 1 of the ink cartridges is empty. Even in B&W. Even if...
Looking for a good external backup drive, around 3TB.
Hesitating between Seagate (Backup Plus / GoFlex) and WD (My Book)
Any known issues with either one, or are they all equally reliable?
Hi guys,
I currently own a PC built on an Asus P6T motherboard (regular P6T rev.1.xx)
I am running out of room in my backup unit, and was thinking of getting a 2TB My Book or Passport or whatever external storage device to replace it with. Most of today's large backup devices are USB 3.0.
The...
Hi,
I am another unfortunate BDP-S370 blu-ray disc player owner suffering from the world turning to x264 and leaving XViD behind (of course, the BDP-S370 has never been able to read even SMALL x264 files from a USB stick, which has made my life hell lately, as more and more people are...
Hi guys,
I have a stuttering issue with my computer that I've gotten so used to, it took someone else dropping by to point out to me how I really should look into fixing it for me to finally take steps to do so.
First, some info on the computer :
Symptoms : System appears to visually...
Hi guys,
Many years ago, I purchased a Dell 2407WFP-HC. It was, and still is, the greatest monitor I've ever used for the price (at the time it was in the $600-700 CND range).
Naturally, this model has since been discontinued. However, I'm starting at a new job and I'd like the company to...
Hi,
I tried this in another forum but it probably wasn't the right one seeing as how I got zero replies.
I'm looking for a portable 1+TB drive solution. Size is a big concern.
I was very close to purchasing a USB3 compatible Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex UltraPortable, but all images I've seen of...
Hi,
Looking for portable 1+TB drive solution. Size is a big concern.
I was very close to purchasing a USB3 compatible GoFlex Ultra Portable, until I learned that it requires a special wire/adapter. In other words, the body, on its own, could not connect to standard USB or micro-USB. It needs...
As some of you know, recently bought a Crucial C300 128GB to replace my Windows (boot) drive.
With Windows, Office and Adobe CS5 on it, it's already half full.
How do you guys have yours set up?
Do you :
A) Install all programs on the SSD along with Windows because they perform better this...
I've been using an internet traffic monitoring tool called NetMeter for a few years.
(The tiny piece of software can be found here.)
Recently, I've noticed outgoing activity (upload) of of 0.2kps, every second-and-a-half, approximately. So on the graph, it looks like little spikes of 0.2kps...
Coming at you from my first SSD drive (Crucial C300 128KB) on a fresh Windows 7 installation. Haven't had time to actually put the thing to the test yet.
I was wondering, however, if there's a way to tell Windows 7 to kill the internet connection when it goes into energy-saving mode (and...
I'm 95% sure it's MBR (I'll be installing Windows 7 on this) but all the same, I'd sleep better with confirmation from people that actually know what these terms refer to.
I don't know why this isn't standard in Windows, but for the past year I've been using NetMeter to monitor exactly what my computer is uploading/downloading, and when.
This is how I found out the latest Vuze release actually uploads more than the cap you're placing on upload speed when...
Switching boot drives, re-installing Windows 7 from scratch... anyone know if there's a "export/import/migrate everything" tool for Outlook 2007 out there?
I know how to back up the emails, but the rules, addresses, and everything else have always been a nightmare to port over. Of course, the...
Hi,
As some of you know, I just purchased the Crucial C300 (my first SSD), and immediately downloaded all the firmware updates and instructions.
I plugged the new C300 into SATA slot #2 (slot #1 is currently occupied by my windows hard drive, while slot #3 is another SATA storage drive)...
I'm in the process of installing a new Crucial C300 SSD drive, and the firmware updating instructions mention that the port needs to be set to IDE (not AHCI) for the updating to work.
I went into my BIOS and found that all my SATA ports were already set to IDE.
Should I be switching them...
I'm purchasing my first SSD drive this week. It's a Crucial C300 128GB, and will serve as my new C: drive. I'm not porting a disk image onto it, I'm re-installing the OS and all the programs one by one.
Two questions :
1. I've heard that some SSD firmware updates are destructive -- ie, they...

WD MyPassport Essential SE vs Seagate GoFlex Ultra-Portable.
Other than the slight width and weight advantage on the Seagate, I can't tell these two apart. Anyone see any reason to go for the slightly thicker and heavier MyPassport, over the GoFlex, other than brand loyalty?

As an owner of an Asus P6T currently looking for an SSD and separate portable drive -- which are currently available in USB2/USB3 SATA2/SATA3 variations -- I thought I might be the target demographic for this thing.
Or would I be...
...I'm trying to standardize my usernames across the various message boards I'm on. Could a site admin possibly change my username to "jyeager11" if they have a minute?
It's just easier to maintain when I'm not juggling multiple names on multiple boards.
Hi guys,
I own an Asus P6T (Socket 1366 LGA) - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 GHz.
It's been running off a WD Caviar for the past year that has shown signs of slow failure (can't run a disk check without finding/repairing a bunch of errors).
I figured this is as good a time as any to go...
I'm looking for a 750GB or 1TB portable storage device.
It must only be powered by the USB port (no dedicated power cable), and fit into my pocket.
I've been hesitating between iomega, Seagate GoFlex, and WD Passport Essential SE.
I was really leaning towards the latter, and almost...

I'm having a hard time getting it to read my USB stick and was wondering if I was doing something wrong.
I am at least a year or two away from an HD TV. For now, I've got a pretty big standard set that's just fine.
Because I have traditional cable (no decoder needed), I record my shows on old-fashioned VHS tape.
My DVD player, however, doesn't do DivX... so I'd like to update it for this...
