Hey what r peoples thoughts on the new 900 series from Intel? - i've heard of a few OC's on the net, i think some guy got his 920 from 2.8-4GHz per core, and it is claimed it had higher performance than a A64 X2 clocked at about 2.6GHz per core.
I know this may sound like a bit of a quick n' dirty way, but its probably easier to fix it just by reinstalling windows with the cpu running at the level of OC you want it at - there by avoiding what appears to be appareant corruption of the OS from the OC, which is obivously causing windows to...
Yes & No! - You see having your ram running at 173 as u stated will of course be slower than running at 200, however in my opinion they great to use because it means u can run your HTT at a much higher setting without causing your ram to become unstable, and anyways if u run your HTT at 240...
Its the ram thats stopping u, clear and simple! 1:1 ratios in most cases just don't cut it most of the time - I'll say to u what i say to most people who are new to OC'n read this thread, and also read the other thread in this forum "First time OC'er, have some questions".
I would say leave the rest of the system as set with 5:6 for the ram, and just focus on upping the HTT/FSB as far as it can go in amounts 5-10MHz, or if u want u can consider lowering the cpu multi and raising HTT even higher - just remember if possible at the first sign of unstableness, before...
well, if your that hardcore then why haven't u went and gotten yourself a cheapass watercooling kit for the cpu, i take it your using sktA and do remember there being quite a few cheap kits for that skt.
Well my suggestion are for best OC:
cpu: AMD Opteron 146 2.0GHz 1MB 64/32-Bit skt939(Retail Box-w-Fan) = $215 from MonarchComputers
mobo: DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert =$185.99 again from MonarchComputers
total: $400
Edit: You should be able to get that to about 2.8GHz, if u...
Unless i'm mistaken u cannot unlock the cpu multi on any amd cpus with the exception of the FX series - and if the mobo appears to allow u to raise it, the multi will actually remain locked at its max setting.
You may find this link a bit informative as well http://fab51.com/cpu/guide/opn-64-e.html , also at the bottom of the page, there are some additional linkage with more info regarding the skt754,939 & 940.
Yeah - so far you've done well there Orr, i would think raising vcore by another 0.5v and setting HTT to 235 (2.58GHz core), and also don't forget to make sure u raise LDT voltage by 0.5v (if u haven't already) to maintain chipset stability as you increase the HTT.
Edit: One more thing in...
6200 TC =crap (pci-e), 6600LE(pci-e) - 6600(agp/pci-e) - 6600 GT(agp/pci-e), 6800LE(agp/pci-e) - 6800XT(pci-e) - 6800GS/GT(agp/pci-e) - 6800 Ultra(agp/pci-e), 7800 GS (agp) - 7800 GT(pci-e) - 7800 GTX(pci-e), soon to be 7900 GT, 7900 GTX (both pci-e).
Out of those the best in terms of price...
Well it kind of depends on the quality of the ram u purchased, however from experiance i would say it can be anywhere from fsb 210mhz (i.e. 420mhz ram) to fsb 230mhz (460mhz ram).
Edit: Don't worry about asking too many questions, thats the whole point of this place - keep asking, i know how...
Ok read this then - http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_6800_gs_performance/default.asp - the main reasons are its performance is the same as a stock 6800 GT and it has 256MB of 256-bit memory and supports shaders 3.0 - also have u considering getting an Opty 146 instead of that...
P.S.- If need advice for a new skt939, i would recommend the Abit KN8 Ultra for $76.99 after rebate (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813127222), and here's the link to the 6800 GS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130271) $154 after rebate.
Before you consider buying that new graphics card, you should be upgrading the mobo as well - then u can get that evga 6800 GS PCI-E version from newegg for $154 after rebate, which also happens to totally whip ass and offers just the same performance as a stock 6800 GT.
Just one thing about the DRAM freqs set: it will read 190 (DRAM/FSB: 5/06) in your case, not 230 as i had stated as i had explained, now about what u just asked - because the default ratio is 1:1 then usually u will find there comes a point where the RAM can no longer operate because it can not...
Of course if haven't read that thread then my advice would be first backup u're important stuff - caus this can corupt your windows install, then go Bios> set FSB bus freqs: 230, LDT/FSB freqs ratio: x3, CPU freqs ratio: x11 (default for 4400), CPU voltage (Vcore or sometimes know as CPU VID)...
If you are new to OC'n then i would recommend very strongly that you read the following thread http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=327, if u still have questions after that of course just post again or PM me.
Yeah, but it's only got a 128-bit memory bus, u want at least 256-bit for decent performance which is why the 6800 GS is the card of choice in this situation.
Yeah, i would say get the 6800 GS as well it offers heaps better performance than both the 6600 GT and X1600 XT, i suggest u read this if u need anymore convincing http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_6800_gs_performance/default.asp, and newegg is selling it for $209...
You could have gotten Windows XP Home OEM when you purchased the mobo & cpu, u can still get it but u would have to purchase another piece of hardware like a new HDD or maybe GPU if you'r lucky, in order to meet the licence requirements.
And while your at it u should probably leave a small...
Dude if u have to go option 1. that offers the best chance to avoid to many hassles, ideally as the other guy pointed out a clean reinstall with the new mobo installed is the best option, and becuase uo're only upgrading the mobo, having done this myself, windows will activate just find (u can...
I take it by that u mean u want to upgrade the mobo's for both machines - i've recently (last year) had to do the same thing for one of my old machines (a skt478 as well), the best i could find (of anything that was in-stock at least) was an ex-demo Soltek i865PE mobo. So bearing that in mind u...
Apparently this can be quite a common problem with that particular mobo, i would suggest try not installing the Uli AGP driver, just the Forceware due to a possible conflict between the nvidia software and Asrock's - some people also say setting the AGP to 4x might do the trick, but then i've...
Firstly try setting (under DRAM config in the Bios) teh DRAM freqs set: (DRAM/FSB: 5/06), tehn try setting memory to CAS Latency(CL) =2, RAS to CAS(Trcd) = 2, Min RAS# Active time(Tras) = 5 and Row Precharge Time(Trp) = 2 (i.e. timings r now 2-2-5-2 and try also raising vdimm to about 2.73 or a...
Well if u need anymore convincing about how much better a 6800 GS is over a X1600 XT then read this http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/bfg_geforce_7800_gs_agp/page22.asp , appears as if they r both the same price for u guys in the US, here in australia they charge an extra $40 for the 6800 GS...
Yeha, my vote is go for the 7800 GS as it has newer hardware features, i suggest u read this quickly http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/bfg_geforce_7800_gs_agp/page22.asp
What is current Vcore? what r the memory settings (also check under DRAM config the "DRAM Freqs set (MHz):" it should say 200 (DRAM/FSB: 1/01) - what this means is it(the RAM) is set to a operate at the same speed (1:1 ratio) as your FSB (u can change this to 5:6 or even 1:2 when OC'n much...
Just to add to my comments before - If your looking to achieve a higher clock then, change the LDT ratio to x3, and try bringing the HTT/FSB freqs from 260-290 and raise Vcore another 0.5V, which should bring total vcore to about 1.53 (u can try a bit higher if unstable).
So if u get it to...
Well i am not going to say i am the world expert on OC'n, however once you've got the new mobo (and i still think the KN8-SLI is a bargain - and becuase its an Abit, it's good for OC'n), just begin by entering the Bios, usually select Standard CMOS options and u should see FSB Freqs: 200MHz...
Well u could just sell the mobo and vid card on ebay maybe, then get a cheap board like the Abit KN8-SLI and a new vid card - what model u get will as usual depend on how much cash you've got to spend - and your set.
Have u tried booting with just the cpu,ram & gpu attached - also my intial thoughts would be that something overheated (like what kirbyrj was suggesting about the cpu) and most likely died. Have you overclocked anything? if so reset the BIOS using the appropriate jumpers on the board - if that...
