HP Reverb G2

I don't really follow the VR news. He's addressing the concerns people are having.
I think his videos are informative and definitely helped me decide.
I've watched a number of his videos, and he does repeat himself quite a bit.
I've been curious about the G2, but when there's little to no new information on any given video, it feels pointless to release as many as he does.

If you only watch a couple, they probably seem fine, but when you've watched several of them, the repetition of information is obvious.

I admit MRTV gets a little repetitive on his G2 videos, but then again because he also runs a VR lounge where to VR devices (not just headsets jut also gloves etc...) the pandemic really hit him hard and devastated his income. Having the first G2 was pretty much godsend in his situation so he is milking it in every way he can. Anway MRTV isn't the only one who has G2 prototype anymore. Tyriel Wood also recently received one (probably slightly older due to some differences vs Sebastians prototype) and has made several videos about it.

MRTV has released the only through the lens comparisons so far which are incredably useful. Also his FOV comparison of EVERY headset was very informative. Give the guy a break. He has done his fair share of real world hardware comparison. I can't fault him on that.

There's at least one other who did a through-the-lens comparison, but MRTV's is much better.

Haven't seen, but either way i don't get the hate.
Are in Vive/Rift fanbois already?]
Surely for a YT page you can just skip ahead or don't watch?

The other would be Tyriel Wood, the guy who does through the lense videos quite often. But as I said before, his preproduction model light me older because, IIRC, there was an issue with the lenses which HP says is already fixed and (to my knowledge) MRTV's model does not have it, or at least he did not bring it up. I do not remember what it was, you just have to watch his videos. Anyway, here is Tyriels through the lense video.

Before I preorder the HP Reverb G2, I have been waiting for any other announcements like from Samsung or others. So far nil. Anyone know if Samsung or others will also be releasing a new headset?

I had the Reverb G1 for a couple of months, but reluctantly returned it in the end due to the thick and heavy cable, mediocre sound and black level. It sounds like HP has fixed all of my gripes, and more, so I'm close to pre-ordering this.
I also have a Vive, and can use my lighthouses to improve tracking on the G2, right? Or would I need the 2.0 lighthouses?

EDIT: Looks like lighthouse compatibility is just rumours, so I guess not.

No, the G2 is only inside-out tracking.

Yeah, I do not like not having external sensors. :(

I pre-ordered anyway. I get 14 days to return it, so I should have time to find out if it works good enough to keep by then. Hopefully the G2 sales will give Microsoft a swift kick in the nuts so they start developing the Windows VR software again.

I just got off the phone with Connection since I needed to change my billing address. They said they well surpassed HP's 80,000 order number in order to start shipping so they said shipping is soon.

Unfortunately I don't think anything their phone reps say means anything. They have no insight. They're trained to say "it'll ship soon" as boilerplate response for backorders of any kind, and they've been telling that to everyone that posts at /r/hpreverb - there are threads going back to June "Connection rep just told me it'll ship soon".

HP still hasn't announced the release date. They were still iterating prototypes as recently as a few weeks ago. October is probably optimistic at this point.

All we know for sure is Fall 2020. That means October at earliest if things go smoothly but November is the most likely shipping month. If we get our headsets in october then consider ourselves lucky.

I'm happy to wait a bit longer and get a solid thought out device that will work well, look good and last.

My Amazon order still says 1 October and that's in a bit more than a week.
I don't mind if it gets delayed a month or so lol, stupid ass Kickstarter board games I'm interested in that just had to release this week and new video cards have already thinned my wallet considerably for this and next month.

I am pretty sure that it is just a placeholder date that was put somewhere in fall. 🤔 But I would be glad if proven otherwise.

It is official now. People who have preordered so far will get their headsets starting from early November. Other people will start seeing theirs shipped at December.

oh so usb is not sufficient now:
  • Our Engineers found an opportunity to lower persistence without lowering brightness and this required higher power draw, so the HP Reverb G2 will require the adapter to be plugged into the wall.
Two wires or will the usb/power be in-line so still one cable?

Most likely. Two separate cables would be a mess.

Interesting. My Amazon ES order still says 1st October, and so does the product page. They updated to the higher price but not the date.
I'm not saying it's not November or that they will send it to me on 1st October, but perhaps they are going to charge me 1st October.

I know, I also ordered from spanish Amazon. But unless HP pulls a Sony and completely messes up the dates like what happened with PS5 the I will trust the HP blog more than Amazon. But we will see...

Same. Or actually I have no idea what it is saying but "Hola.... Reverb G2... 10 de novembrie de 2020" is pretty clear I think. 😁

Connection.com has always rubbed me the wrong way for some reason - wannabe CDW with braindead and hard to reach customer service; I'll keep rolling with my G1 until I can get a G2 from Amazon. Might be waiting until Dec/Jan, that's okay.

So did you guys have your Reverb G2 sent?
I noticed that it's out of stock today, but I did cancel my preorder a week ago. I just have too many gaming platforms.

Any news on ship date? I placed my preorder here in the US 2 minutes after preorders went up. It's been almost 6 months. I need my G2!

Seems it might be December for the first Pre- Orders, but, nobody knows for sure.

different places, different news. on reddit, people have posted they have tracking delivery dates for tomorrow.

Link to this reddit? I can't find it. Thanks.

I just looked, and I ordered mine on May 30th at 7:02 AM. I *should* be one of the first receiving them, but with the way things have gone this whole year, I'll probably get screwed LoL!

USA, eastern Asia and even bloody Australia (whos preorders started in September!) are getting theirs now. No one in Europe, which actually had the preorders first starting from July, has received one outside of couple of Youtubers which got freebies from HP. People (including me) are getting pissed at this stunt. We ordered the headset first and we still seem to get it last. How screwed up logic is that?

*Edit* For clarification, not everyone in those countries are getting their shipments ready, G2 Is still as rare as chicken teeth. But the order of priority is still upside down from what was promised.

Not sure if i can link but look for /r/HPReverb. Several in Australia already got them and giving feedback.

Here is the link. https://www.reddit.com/r/HPReverb/

I had a good laugh. First there are a bunch of Australians being extatic about their G2's and closer to bottom the rest of the world expressing all sorts of feelings from disbelief, anger, confusion and sadness. This screen cap I took says it all. :ROFLMAO::cry:

Mine was delivered this morning! I ordered on 5/30, and paid for overnight shipping. I think I might be taking an extra long lunch break today...

:)

Noice! Still waiting for HP to get of their asses and send some to Spanish Amazon. Anyway, even though it is going to make my pain of waiting worse, please post your impressions after you have gotten a good test with the headset. :)

My IPD is close to 70ish coming up from 69 o.0. What's your IPD and does a 2mm IPD difference on the low side of yours make a massive difference in clarity? It's a lot to ask but my only hesitation pulling the trigger on the G2 is that I'm out of the IPD setting range, but many people say that ±2mm should be okay. Thanks so much if you can test this out for me at some point!

I admit this is what concerns me too. My IPD is also between 69 and 70 (rough estimate with a mirror and a ruler). I always use my CV1 at 70.
