I just asked this exact question yesterday on the HP forums.
As luck would have it, the answer came back as better data cable with bigger breakout box offering better internals to suppress interference.
The other improvement come in the form of better face gasket and support.
I just ordered one.
HP has a sale at $450 going on right now.

And if you already have the G2 v1 you can upgrade to the v2 cable/breakout box one of two ways. If you're in warranty, you can contact HP support and tell them about the issues you've had with your AMD X570 mobo and they will send you a v2 cable. If you're out of warranty, the cable is available to purchase for around $90 and you don't have to worry about ordering the wrong one - HP has stated they've replaced all existing stock of v1 cables with v2 cables. You can visually tell them apart; the v1 is a rectangle (top) and the v2 is a larger square (bot).

I saw this on reddit a while back and got a v2 box for free. It has a power button too so you dont have to keep unplugging the box when its not in use.
 
How much better is this thing's screen compared to the Quest 2? I borrowed my office's quest 2 for a couple weeks now and I'm ready to bring it back. It's incredibly uncomfortable with glasses on (even with the glasses extender and some better after market pads), and it just feels horrible to look through. Everything is grainy as hell, it seems like nothing is bright enough and I can see black lines everywhere. I ran it on my PC using upsampling as well over oculus link, and I just can't get with it. What really did it for me being done with it was playing Hell Blade in VR, then switching back to my desktop and liking it so much more due to the clarity issue. To me, the feeling of being in a 3D space wasn't as valuable as image clarity or comfort. This looks like a more comfortable product, and the resolution is a bit higher but it still seems like it may not be worth giving up my monitor games that have the option.

Screen imo is significantly clearer and shows darks instead of grays. I also find it to be much more comfortable and the speakers are even better than my quest2 with the vive deluxe audio strap. Each has their owns strengths, and the G2's is definitely visuals/audio.

Regarding glasses, all VR headsets have problems those. Whatever headset you get one of the best upgrades you can do is to get prescription lenses for it. They snap on and off easily in case you want to share the headset. WidmoVR sells them in europe and VR-Lens-Lab for USA. There are others too but those came to mind first.

No VR headset will work for you if you are expecting monitor like clarity. The Reverb G2 is better, but, it's not much better. It's not night and day better. To put it another way, there wouldn't be enough of a difference to change your mind about the clarity of VR headsets in general.

What after market head straps did you try? You can make the Quest 2 as comfortable as the Reverb G2 with the right strap.

Just a quick question, what GPU were you using with the Quest 2?

The other thing that might be happening is that the Quest 2 you were using is from the bad batch. There was a batch of Quest 2 headsets with bad lenses. For a while on various forums there was a lot of complaints. So you might have been unlucky and the office headset is from that batch of headsets.
 
I sold my G2 after getting a Quest 2 and using it wirelessly. After playing without a wire, I just couldn't go back. Yes, the G2 has a better screen but it's not that much better, in my opinion. Maybe if the G2 is a 10, the Quest 2 is an 8, which is fine. I've owned a CV1 Rift, Rift S, then the G2 and now the Quest 2. The last 2 I've used with a 3090.

I'll definitely try out getting actual prescription lenses for one if there's a headset i decide I want. Thanks for letting me know.

that has been my question as well...

My distance vision has been terrible since I was a kid, but now that I'm in my 40s and the close in vision is starting to fail as well.

Focal distance for most headsets is about six feet, so it's only the nearsightedness you need to worry about.

It is the distance vision that matters with VR headsets. I can see close really well up to half a meter but anything further than that things get blurry real fast. As weird as it may seem and even though VR headsets are right up on your face I cannot see shit unless I wear my glasses underneath the headset or use prescription lenses.
 
Got my Reverb...

with glasses, it is kinda annoying, but workable.

Flight Sim in VR is fantastic. It completely changes the way it feels. I know my body is being tricked because when I go into a turn, my body expects to feel the plane banking and it actually throws me off a bit.
 
Just ordered one on Friday from HP site...comes with free 3-year warranty for 399.00. Hoping for an upgrade from CV1...playing mainly Simracing/Elite Dangerous.

It usually goes one of two ways. Either you will be astounded by the clarity upgrade over the Civ1 and love it. Or you will be so disappointed with the black levels after coming from OLED that the upgraded clarity just won't be enough. If you are mainly playing Simracing/Elite dangerous, then none of the other advantages the Civ1 has will matter much.

Will be interested to hear your thoughts about the change when you get the G2.
 
Just got the G2 (hp.com $400), good headset, solid upgrade from my Rift S.
Also got wave vr lenses, experience is way better, but the install is jank; I almost want to superglue them in.

Have a couple hours in HL:Alyx and a couple hours in iRacing. So Far the clarity is night and day compared to CV1, I can actually see my brake zones from a very long distance in iRacing, I was playing around with vrperfkit for foveated rendering to improve image quality and reduce gpu usage...appeared to work quite well! Alyx has been awesome and plays extremely well with graphics maxed out!

WMR app kinda really sucks. Not near as nice of design as Oculus software. WMR is hard to get iracing going if you do not go the right sequence...and STEAMVR wants to keep overtaking...kind of annoying. I will get over it, and eventually be starting/stopping the software quickly. I of course have to get other software/hardware running along side it as well, so it could be worse.

The G2 Controls are not near as good quality and do not track near as beautifully as the CV1 controls...but I rarely will use them and for what I need them for will be just fine. G2 sweet spot is extremely tiny and very picky if the headset is not 100% exactly in the right spot between both eyes....perhaps still adjusting the headset, but did not notice the level of detail required on the Rift...but again it was a fraction of the resolution. No screen door whatsoever...contrast isn't so bad from what I was fearing from reading, especially coming from the Rift displays, but from playing the dark areas in Alyx it seemed decent. The cord is thickboi and cumbersome...the clip that clips to the back of the headset appears to be engineered poorly and pops off at any given chance, but I will be able to secure it and figure it out.

I would buy it again for sure. These VR Headsets at these levels of cost, are still very much look with your head and not with your eyes, as the quality of the image does not stray too far vertically or horizontally from the center of the sweet spot. It is a bit dissapointing in that aspect, but I have to remember that at the resolution you are getting and the sharpness at the center, it will only exponentially show degradation towards the outside of the lens, compared to the lesser resolutions where it blends a bit better.
