Woman Assaults Man For Taking Pictures With A Drone

No getting what she deserved would have been the dude knocking her dumb ass out.. But that would have gotten him in more trouble than it would have been worth..
Naw that would never change her world view, she would just think he's a prink and move on with her life. Getting prosecuted by the state is far better result even then might not change her idea of wrong or right but atleast she can't tell her story to other people and try to make herself look good.
Wow, scary to think how differently this could've turned out had he not recorded it. Men should start widgeting camera apps to their lockscreens.
Not really the police would eventually look at the drone recordings and find out the lady was full of shit. But then she might have gotten away without the assult change just the disturbing the peace.

Anyways she's an idiot, if you wanted to see if the guy was bring a perv just ask if you could see his drone and see the shots he was doing. Fake an interest and see what is what but i guess idiots aren't nefarious enough for that.

poor kid didn't get any help from the beach goers:(

He should have shouted that he was a minor and being assaulted by an adult attempting to kidnap him.

That woman would be searching the sand for her teeth knocked out by all the pissed off mothers.

He should have shouted that he was a minor and being assaulted by an adult attempting to kidnap him.
He's still a white male, no one would care. He should scream that he's being gay bashed, they are a protected group and it would have been believable.

Come on, it's still creepy as hell. Flying a camera equipped drone around a beach, please. Dude's just lucky she was the only one who attacked him

My brother was at the park last summer with his family, his little girl ran off to play and my brother turns around and see's some guy standing 2 feet from her taking a bunch of pictures. Was it legal, yup. Did my brother break the guy's arm and smash his equipment despite the fact that the police would do nothing to him, yup and yup.

You can go on and on about expectation of privacy and the right to take pictures all you want, he still deserves a 2x4 across the face. The kid should go get his porn off the internet like everyone else.

Did you even read the post by Sly on the previous page? You seem to need the 2x4 a lot more for posting such a useless story.

Congratulations for all the crap I already know. The fact is he is not a journalist and can claim to be one. But if he starts to commercialize it by monetizing money off my face without my written consent, he can be sued. That's why newspapers have constantly sought permission for every photograph they use from a 3rd party. Even today with the Southwest Jet, there's a reporter on the twitter feed constantly asking for the right to use the picture.

new paper = for profit, youtube channel = charity

Sexism. If it were a guy attacking a child and making false charges he would have gotten felony charges filed against him.

Yea she looked what, early to mid 20's and the dude might have still been a teenager? Reverse the roles and you have a guy who's life would be ruined forever.

In before a bunch of guys attempt to brag about how tough they are and how they would have been hairy, dominant, and immortally powerful!

Also, this is proof positive that there's an evil republican democratic NRA anti-gun owning plot that demonstrates the decline of society and shows how everyone is getting dumber since this would NEVER have happened 200 years ago. I blame the education system or the lack of the government legalizing the drinking of bleach and the NSA is somehow involved because that drone had to be bugged with Uplay DRM and Origin since it was an overpriced pre-ordered DLC that exploited all the flaws in security in Modern UI's IE that would never have been there in the first place if the drone was a PC-only release rather than being made for consoles too.

Oh, my, god. I was thinking just the same thing!

Adult committing assault and battery, destruction of private property.

Anyone with the mindset to do this should get thrown in for at least six months. There's far too many "adults" walking around these days with the mindset of a toddler.

Fuck that noise. It's a public beach. You have no right to or expectation of privacy when in public places. Don't want to be filmed in public? Then don't go outside. People seriously need to get over this kind of shit. Do you know how many cameras you're caught on in an average day if you're in anything resembling an urban area? Probably dozens if not hundreds. If you're not cool with that go and build yourself a cabin deep in the woods somewhere. Even then you'll still have to deal with the cameras on the satellites.

Drone can get angles that modern expectations on clothing, etc are not built around. Or, do you think Mirrors on your shoes are legal?

I'm pretty sure that has no bearing. I could go sit on the beach and stare at some women with their tops off, sunbathing. It's not moral, but also not illegal. I'm pretty sure mirrors on shoes aren't illegal, nor are they overtly immoral. Could they be used immorally? Well, of course.

As has been mentioned here, the kid didn't do anything wrong. Once you step out into the public, expect to be recorded at any chance. Look at celebrities - they often don't get a moments peace from paparazzi.

...... so can tall people and multi-story buildings, or do you think that second floor and up buildings are legal?

There's a very specific way these things capture video because of the lens used(2.8mm), radio interference (fresnel zone), and how much weight they can carry (can't carry a DSLR). I have to hover within 10 feet of a road sign to read it.

When you fly FPV there certain requirements and specifications you need to abide by to be able to actually see where you're going. One of them is a wide angle lens to make up for the fact that you can't turn your head.

All I am saying is that you can't assume that what he posted online is an indication of all that was recorded. I'm not say there had to be more or even that it's likely he did anything wrong. I am just pointing out the flaw in your statement. And it has nothing at all to do with the technical aspects of a go-pro and a quadcopter.

I'd bring something else up as well. We got no idea what else happened on that beach before this footage starts, heck it begins with the two of them already in confrontation but there could have been many things happen that lead up to this.

Hell, for all we know the two of them staged it, no charges filed right?

Crazier things happen, like a couple deciding to kill a couple of cops over lunch.
World's full of whack jobs with agendas and no damn respect for their fellow man.

Don't know if he could knock her out, he is a child and we don't know his strength.
It doesn't take great strength, it takes proper aim. It really doesn't take that much power to knock someone out.

You're IN PUBLIC, I can do whatever I want with the footage IN PUBLIC
No Shamus, actually you can't.

Go ahead, come take my picture and then use it on a great big bulletin board to sell something. You won't go to jail, but you will loose your ass in court and I'll bleed you for every cent I can get. You need to understand that there are both criminal and civil laws and they don't always overlap.

By m heisty;
Unmanned aircraft are not drones. They are remote controlled unmanned aircraft. A true drone needs to be able to be programmed to complete something be it drive around the block, fly around the world drop a bomb and come back, or sweep your floors on its own with out human intervention.

Tell it to the people who write dictionaries.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/drone
an unmanned aircraft or ship that can navigate autonomously, without human control or beyond line of sight: the GPS of a U.S. spy drone.
b.
(loosely) any unmanned aircraft or ship that is guided remotely: a radio-controlled drone.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/drone
: an unmanned aircraft or ship guided by remote control or onboard computers

http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/us/definition/american_english/drone
3A remote-controlled pilotless aircraft or missile.

And the FAA's defintiion of classes of unmanned aircraft.
http://www.faa.gov/about/initiatives/uas/uas_faq/
What is an unmanned aircraft system (UAS)?

A UAS is the unmanned aircraft (UA) and all of the associated support equipment, control station, data links, telemetry, communications and navigation equipment, etc., necessary to operate the unmanned aircraft.

The UA is the flying portion of the system, flown by a pilot via a ground control system, or autonomously through use of an on-board computer, communication links and any additional equipment that is necessary for the UA to operate safely. The FAA issues an experimental airworthiness certificate for the entire system, not just the flying portion of the system.

Sorry if this doesn't fit your definition or some definition you favor but the world seems to have a different idea then you do.

Yes to a degree it will come down how you use them. If you use mirror on your shoes to be 'fancy' then no harm, if you use them to get an upskirt view or picture you're in for some hassle likely both civil and criminal. If a drone is used to get deep clevage shot, it may not be as bad but its in the same vain. Don't expect everything to go your way. If a drone is used to catch an unguarded moment, like a top change behind an improvised blanket or a between the legs shot when the person was turned away from people, you're in upskirting territory.

...... so can tall people and multi-story buildings, or do you think that second floor and up buildings are legal?
Small Drone 200 ft up can be missed, a person or a building with a similar vantage won't be missed.

There is plenty of precedent for selling images as art as well. Street photography as an artform has been around for 150 years, and legal precedent is that the subjects in the pictures have no right to any of the proceed from the sale of the artwork.

I'm not talking about the drone flying accusation, I'm talking about the assault accusation, which would've been astronomically weighted in the girl's favor purely on account of gender.

Excellent! I'm glad to see the kid is pressing charges.

People shouldn't be allowed to get away with behavior like this!

Hes actually going to sue her as well. Started some donation page for his civil suit.

Good. There needs to be consequences for this sort of bullshit.

Sadly this dumb broad still wont get it. There was an article I read where they finally got some comments from her and she STILL thinks he deserved what she did and doesn't understand why she is in trouble.

I'd probably be in jail for pepper spraying that crazy bitch. I do wonder though if I let her assault me some of that time then pepper sprayed her while still recording would I be in jail right now?

Laws are weird after all.

Took me a bit to find the article where she talked about how it was still all his fault but here it is

http://www.whas11.com/news/editors-...saulting-teenager-flying-drone-262624061.html

Mears said she had been getting many harassment emails online and hundreds of friend requests from strange men on Facebook.

"I've been just hiding at home," Mears said. "Everything was fine before he posted the video with my name in it."

Haughwout said it was not his intention for that to happen. "I only posted the video because she bluntly lied to the police, saying that I assaulted her."

"The assault wouldn't have happened if I didn't feel like I was in danger," Mears said.

Umm actually there were charges filed. Andrea Mears faces a year in jail for the assault charge alone. Her next court date is 6/19/2014 where she is set to enter her plea.

That link is broken now but when you land on the page just put in Mears (on last name) and A (on first initial).

I now have it set up to get email notices about any changes in the case. I so want to know how this shakes out.

i really hope she does not get off. But I would like to live in her world though where i can walk the street and expect privacy. What i would also like to see is the footage from the drone as evidence cause if he was buzzing people or harassing them with it or if he was indeed taking shots of da titties then i donno perhaps she had cause and his assault video spins it to where she does not have any evidence...

unfortunately he probably has erased any footage that was of the voyeuristic nature and now only has landscape shots...

Probably like most such cases do: a quiet out of court settlement for terms not released to the public, after a lawyer with a cool head explains to Mears just how much jail time she faces for battery of a minor (he is seventeen).

im sure she has had it explained to her but she still does not get it also i see her getting a slap on the wrists and i don't see him getting the 1000+ or so out of her for a new drone.

She really does not realize she handled it in such a wrong way that it was criminal. I would have liked to have been there to see both sides. As he was skating a fine line and the content of any footage can be used in her defense as if she can prove malicious intent then this is all back on him and he gets tossed into that group with the shoe cams on escalators.

Do not pass go, do not collect $200, go directly to jail!
Lmao!
Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb!

This type of behavior is what I literally this is the downfall of societies...

I think people lie about this stuff soo much they actually think it is true.

Very few people seem to think or look at things objectively, especially if once they do it finally dons on them they were wrong. Me I find eating crow is the best though rarely does anyone recognize that fact and tend to keep railing on you re-enforcing that lieing is better.

QFT. Especially the last part... no one ever admits being wrong, for the most part, and when they finally do they usually are slammed for doing so instead of being acknowledged for caring about the facts.
