The Outer Worlds 2

Ha you know what this woke me up. I was thinking the game would be solid, but if it is a gamepass game then I feel like they kinda just encourage slop sometimes. Thinking about the recent Doom game. That game was straight up mid and sloppy. I would be so upset if I spent $70 on it, but for gamepass its whatever, just pushing slop out.

I can see it going either way - either the devs can experiment more since they know they have the gamepass payout to fall back on, or it turns into slop because they know they have the gamepass payout to fall back on. Doom was the latter.

The first game was also on Gamepass. It is what it is. There have been some all-star Gamepass titles, and some half-baked duds. I'd say that in the last decade or so Obsidian's games have hit the mark in some ways and missed in others. Usually in the form of doing something really well and then repeating that one thing over and over until the player is bored of it. I'm expecting that from this game, too. I think how good TOW2's successes and failures will mostly fall on Obsidian's tendencies vs. Gamepass.

how many people that play games on Game Pass and actually like or love the game (especially big AAA games) actually end up buying the game?...probably a very small number

Doesn't really matter, if Microsoft owns the studio it goes on Game Pass. They lost money putting the last CoD game on there.

I loved The Outer Worlds, the atmosphere, the gameplay, the wackiness. And everything I’ve seen of the sequel, which is easily my most anticipated game of the year, makes me think it will actually be better than the first game - something I almost never see happen.

Honestly, I can’t wait for this.

If I really like a Gamepass game I'd just pay for another month of Gamepass instead of buying it. If you wait around long enough, just about every game ever will be free in the Epic store at some point, too.

I always check out game plays on Youtube. Outer Worlds was quirky enough to know I'd enjoy it, I bought it, and enjoyed it I most certainly did. I don't constantly need something happening in my games anymore. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the design put into it. And a lot of times I'd just stand in certain areas just wowing at the atomic-age design of things. It's a fun fusion of atomic era and the Firefly show.

I buy games on Game Pass that I like. I don't even have an Epic account.

RT looks good but I don't see any transformative visuals with it enabled
Haven't seen it in this game, but overall RT is the most overrated tech since HDR. Yeah, it`s a bit better, but halving your framerate for a pretty minor visual improvement is not for me.

Game looks good, but difficult to see the difference when there's no comparison to the baked lighting version. But in general I think baked lightning is good enough, it`s not like RT makes a big difference when you play a game IMO. It may be a bit better, but it`s like 256 Kb/s MP3 vs FLAC, you need to listen to the sound quality and not the tune to appreciate it.

I feel the same way about Path Tracing in Dark Ages. It's apparent in static shots but hard to really appreciate when you're blowing through a room of demons. Visually, it's not worth the framerate sacrifice to me.

How many hours? Don't think I will have time to get into this anytime soon and my game pass is expiring.

Early Access (i.e. the premium $100 edition) unlocks tomorrow, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. EDT so we should know something then.
I don't think places like Metacritic allow user reviews until full release, but we will see the Steam and Xbox reviews.

Also, it's advanced access, not early access.

So were reviews for Dragon Age: Veilguard.
Warranted.

A really fun game with insane production values. Combat, especially at the higher levels, was super addictive (not too hard, not too easy… just fun).

A good game victimized by Anti-DEI gamer nonsense.

it is and was trash and the "game journalists" are full of shit. id almost put money on it being the case here too.

"Premium edition's" are so sleezy and greedy by the game companies

Normal game is $69, but if you want to play the game 1 day sooner it's $100.

F that crap.

It's tough to take both journalists and user review scores seriously. Everyone wants to get those hyperbolic clicks and thumbs ups.
The best approach tends to be watching 3-4 videos where they go into details about things they did and didn't like. You then try to make up your own mind based on an amalgamation of those concepts. Most people that have a bone to pick get into that right away, luckily. What sucks is that even good video makers are often reduced to making hyperbolic video thumbnails that say stuff like "WORST GAME EVER, WASTE OF $$$?!?!?" just to get clicks.

If we could get game subsidized by people (streamer that can moneytise early access I imagine) willing to pay $30 for 1 day that would be a pure win for everyone else and perfect (and zero issue at all for those who buy the regular game),

Most are paying that $30 more for the rest of the package (the 2 DLC):
  • The Outer Worlds 2 Premium Edition includes:-
  • The Outer Worlds 2 base game-
  • Up to 5 days early access-
  • DLC Pass for 2 future story expansions*-
  • Moon Man’s Corporate Appreciation Premium Prize Pack-
  • Access to The Outer Worlds 2 Digital Artbook & Original Soundtrack* Story expansions available as released
