The Outer Worlds 2

I really liked the first game and since I got the Spacer's Choice Edition free from Epic I feel like I owe them a full price purchase.

If you aren't sure about this game or most others, you always have the 2-hour Steam refund window or you can spend $16 for a 1-month Gamepass subscription. That's assuming you can't find a discount Gamepass promo anywhere, too.

The Outer Worlds 2: Nine Major Changes and Improvements Over the Original

At least there the game has Gernades this time. But no way can they compete with Randy Pitchford's grenades in BL4. His NADES have disco music, cluster bombs, and black holes. This would be a instant backlog game if purchased never finished the 1st one.

Can't believe no one has posted about playing it yet.

I'm 2 hours in and really enjoying it. 4K performance is good with no stutters or other performance issues. If you liked the original game then you'll love this one!

I'm a big fan of the original but I'm going to wait until they're done making DLC and wrap the completed game up in a package. I bought the original as a package with the 2 DLCs and enjoyed it. I hate DLC. If a game sounds good I want to play it, but I don't want to play it and them come back a year later for some DLC. DLC needs to die. Just make a sequel on the same engine, reuse a bunch of art assets, and let me transfer my character.

Should be a dope game me thinks. I renewed my gamepass ultimate as it is only 10$ here in my region.

If the first one is any indication that will be in about three or four years from now

I'd say one to two years at this point. I think with OW1 I ended up with a free version from Prime on GoG and a cheap humble bundle monthly for the spacer's edition. Along with a free version of Spacer's Ed on Epic.

I'll definitely pick this up but they need to finish it first. I want all the DLC in a bundle. I'm not much for replaying games and I really liked the first one including the DLC, so I'll wait until it's actually finished.

Unless DLSS/Framegen are straight up busted (which they occasionally can be), things look fine to me.

I might jump on this one graphics look way better than the 1st enviromnetal stuff. You gotta figure they probaly did a better job with lighting via Ray Tracing. Reviews are really good on Steam

One time during black Friday this older guy was trying to explain the difference between the Xbox with a smaller Hard Drive vs the the bigger Hard drive. He just said the one with the bigger hard drive had better graphics. We still like you Mark

According to DF, Raytracing is fucked at the moment. It has real issues with shadows looking noisy as fuck, so you are better sticking with software lumen for now. They'll probably fix it as if nothing else they could just exempt shadows from it and use it for reflections and such. At any rate watch the DF vid for recommended settings, it sounds like you can easily get a lot more frames for little to no quality loss with some tweaks.

Odd that hardware ray tracing has pretty much no performance impact, not that it could get much worse. Hard to find extended gameplay videos with max PC settings currently but some of the videos I skimmed had some low resolution textures for the ground. I don't think it looks awful, but far too demanding for how it looks. Like many other games. The recent UE5 games in particular just run poorly. The recent Ubisoft games (Avatar, Outlaws, AC Shadows) also follow a similiar trend. For the Ubisoft game some parts look okay, but still, even then they don't look great and the performance is in the toilet.

It's pretty rough in my opinion. I think Avowed looked better than this. I had to check a few times to make sure ray tracing was even on.

Lighting is way above the first game.

Got to admit, really enjoying the game so far. Love the fact that you can pickpocket people without getting caught as long as you are sneaking lol.9

You could do the same in the first one as long as your Stealth was high enough, and if you got caught, talking your way out of it was a thing as long as your Speech was high enough or your Lying.

I read in one of the reviews that the skills/perks available to the player adapt throughout the game based on which skills you are using the most...I like it when the game or world adapts to your choices...very few games get this right though

I'm not getting the performance issues it seems so I'm not complaining. 9800x3D, 64GB RAM & 4090 running 4k HDR everything set to Very High with DLSS 4 balanced preset K, hardware ray tracing is broke so set to off and I get ~90-100 fps outdoors and I don't think I've seen/felt any stutter in game. Oh yeah I bought it on Steam. Not sure if there's a performance difference with the Xbox game Store version and Steam or not.

Pretty fucked up that it's getting low player counts. I'm not very far but it seems as good as the 1st one which I really liked.

dont worry, someone will be by shortly to tell you you are in fact having issues whether you experience them or not ;)
i didnt really see much hype for it, so i guess the player count is showing that.

Avowed had strong art direction and so does this. I have been very happy with it. I have mostly stuck to Digital Foundry's recommendations for settings and have had no issues.

Do those of you who are playing agree w the positive reviews that the gaming sites are giving it?

Fist game was ok, but just didn't seem to have the magic Obsidian normally can produce.

Is the world more interesting? First one was just too uninteresting with everything being about corpos I don't care about. That and the "Ah shucks, I broke my leg, my boss won't be happy about this" schtick just lacks intrigue. A setting like that makes makes for a world not worth exploring. Going deeper into the setting is just finding out more about what corpos are doing.

For me this game is more fully realized across the boards.
