Come on guys, its only $18 if you buy Uplay+ for a month! They even give you a 20% discount if you then want to buy the game "license" or dlcs etc.. Which they then may delete after 10 years like "The crew" game. Very cool. Very cool.

$70 for the base game...so that means if I play through Ubisoft Connect and then want to buy the game it's a 20% discount ($14) but I already paid $18 for a 1-month subscription...so I would be paying $4 more total

people either need to play through Ubisoft Connect, buy the game at full price or wait for a sale

For some damn reason I keep thinking this is an EA title.
It's because EA used to have an exclusive license agreement with Disney after it purchased Lucasfilm. In a decade of having the license EA did very little with it and most of the games were a financial disappointment. So the agreement either expired or was terminated. I'm not sure which is which on that last point.

the Respawn SW games were a major critical and financial hit (Fallen Order and Survivor)...too bad Stig Asmussen left Respawn to form his new studio shortly after Jedi: Survivor launched...would have been great to see him oversee the final game in that trilogy

Those two games are one of the few successful ones during that license period. Though I think the last one actually came after the decade long agreement was over. The first one is one of the few legitimate successes. Star Wars the Old Republic was financially successful, but predates that agreement. The second Battlefront was disappointing thanks to its loot box mechanics and of course, there is the DEI shitshow known as Star Wars Squadrons which was complete with 1990's mechanics.

I mean they released what, 5 games? Squadrons was okay could have been so much better.

Not counting expansions for Star Wars the Old Republic? Yeah, something like that. Outside of Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor, I wouldn't call any of them critical successes.

It's 115.00 because I bought the thing you pay Tax as well

That's because ubisoft had reached a level of genericness that there is nothing to set this game apart from anything EA did.

Why would you sign up for subscription and then buy the game? You pay 1 month subscription play the game and done, cut your losses. You don't own the game either way. An ubisoft purchase is more like a pre-paid subscription that you don't know when it expires.

there are people that use Ubisoft Connect as a demo to see if they like the game...if they do then they will buy it (either immediately or later when it goes on sale)

Jedi Survivor was developed under the exclusivity agreement, so it counts.
  1. Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)
  2. Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes
  3. Star Wars: Battlefront II
  4. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
  5. Star Wars: Squadrons
  6. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Guess I don't see the point, since you can easily finish these games within a month.

The game looks bland and boring enough that I am happy to wait 12 months or more to pick it up for $5. No way this is getting prioritised ahead on anything else in my backlog (e.g. Dark Souls 2 and 3, Elden Ring, etc)

Refunded Hellblade 2
Refunded Black Myth Wukong but I bought it again
Refunded Wrath age of Ruin
Refunded Fallout 76 on sale in April but bought it again for Quakecon sale last week.
Refunded Flintlock but bought it again.
Refunded Path of Goddess but bought again because of reviews fun game.

You aren't using "Ubisoft Connect" correctly. Ubisoft Connect is just the Windows launcher that you'd need for any Ubisoft game. You are conflating Ubisoft Connect and Ubisoft+. Ubisoft+ is their subscription package.

  1. Star Wars: Battlefront (2015)
This one probably did OK financially. There were a lot of complaints about it. People were mad it didn't have a single player campaign. In my opinion, this and its sequel had too many game modes and thus, fractured the player base by spreading them too thin. To be fair, for EA and DICE, this game launched in pretty good shape and just sort of worked from day one unlike mainline Battlefield titles which are epic clusterfucks that are borderline unplayable for a lot of people for upwards of two weeks or more after launch. I don't recall all the other complaints about this one given it was nine years ago, but I recall one of the complaints was a lack of bots and things to do offline. (I'm not sure what the fuck people were expecting but whatever.) These things were changed over time and as of its last patch its a solid game.
  1. Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes
I don't know anything about this one which is potentially an indicator of its success right there.
  1. Star Wars: Battlefront II
This one tried to build on the success of the first installment while improving upon it. Unfortunately, the single player campaign was misrepresented and it lacked any replayabiliy. The story was mediocre and tying it to the sequel trilogy hurt it. It also created a weird thread indicating that the couple of former Imperials turned rebels in the game were actually Rey's parents, which obviously didn't end up being true. The biggest problem with this title was the Star Card system which thanks to the cash shop, created a pay to win situation which really is what tanked the game. By the time they pulled the $99 pack that would give you most of the powerful Star Cards out of the shop, the damage was already done. Not only because the whale's bought into that shit but because the game's reputation took a sharp dive.

Similarly, after the fact the game was improved using a lot of player feedback which addressed the issues with the lack of bots and offline things to do. But again, I think it had way too many game modes and this spread the angry player base way too thin.
  1. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
A fantastic game that was well supported and improved upon after release. While certain things like a lack of quick travel weren't addressed in this game directly, a lot of that would be addressed in the follow up
  1. Star Wars: Squadrons
Star Wars Squadrons came about from the realization that the fighter combat in Battlefront II was a highlight for that game and that there was a potential market for a game based on that alone. Unfortunately, they managed to implement similar gameplay found in Battlefront II, but somehow made it worse in just about every way. You had a multiplayer mode that had no depth and focused on stupid cosmetics that didn't feel rewarding to grind for. Plus, the single player campaign worked like a Wing Commander game filled with alphabet mafia approved dialog from unlikeable characters focusing on relationships you didn't see about people you don't care about with a specific focus on their homosexual preferences.

What little story there is was overshadowed by wooden dialog and weird fixed cameras, forced dialog and no free movement onboard the carrier ship. It was a weird throwback to 1990's games without understanding why those games worked. (Hint, it wasn't because of the lame story lines and fixed perspective cutscenes.) The only saving grace is that the game had no real DLC or microtransactions that I recall and it wasn't sold at full price on day one. It was a $39.99 or less game from the start.
  1. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Despite performance issues out of the gate, this follow up to its predecessor was generally well received and it managed to improve on just about every aspect of the first game's design. It was a fun game with a decent story. This is also the only game that features a glimpse into the High Republic Era and portrays it as anything even remotely interesting.

The lack of success and very few attempts at even making Star Wars licensed games is why Disney pulled the plug on their exclusive deal with EA. It just didn't bear fruit.

I think Ubisoft has been beating EA on that front for a while. When I see a bland game, particularly one that uses tired open world mechanics, I default to calling it an "Ubisoft style game" for a reason. :ROFLMAO:

As such, I think Outlaws looks like Assassin's Creed: Star Wars.

An ubisoft purchase is more like a pre-paid subscription that you don't know when it expires.
All digital purchases of games are except gog where you get them drm free and can download the installers ;).

some folks like to replay games they like...
You expect to like an ubisoft open world template game so much that you want to replay it? Bold.
I have not replayed an ubisoft game since Breakpoint, or maybe it was Wildlands? I know I replayed the latter a few times not sure bout breakpoint.

But even in that unlikely scenario, you can buy 3 months access and still not pay $70, let alone $110 or whatever they asking for the complete version.
