So, who's thinking about Borderlands?

Lol...just saw a mob snipe Brandon (the guy doing the live stream) with an axe from like 200 yards. You just see an axe flying and nailing the guy in the face for damage.

How's that for mobs? lol

EDIT: It's free roam just that you have to zone in. You can enter any zone at any level. Most maps are huge as hell.

EDIT 2: If you think this game has stupid mobs, well I just saw Brandon get blown up by an RPG from all the way across the map. He couldn't even sniper scope far enough to find the guy.

I posted up a thread in the Hot Sales section; there's a 4-Pack deal for Borderlands, making each game roughly $33.75

Was just wondering who else out there was thinking about buying up the game.
I'm pretty interested too.
I'm not suggesting anything of course ^^

- Edit
Got in on a 4-Pack deal, everyone add me!
Steam: LordTacodip

i got in on 4pack as well. got 4-5 friends playing with me and the 4 of us just saved 12 bucks

im just wondering how my x2 4200, 9800gt, and 2g of ram will handle it....

Erf, you should definitely be able to play because I heard they're working really hard to optimize this game to play on various hardware; old and new.
Just don't go playing at 1920 x 1080 or something on max graphics.

meh...i'm only playing on a 19" so here's to hoping i can max it out and get at least 30fps...being that this isn't really a competetive fps i'll be able to live with 30fps.

I watched some of the earlier installments of his 20 hours of gameplay, and I am not too impressed.

I would say that is pretty stupid. Well, incredibly stupid.

How's that stupid? The mobs with RPGs used a laser guided targetting thing (sort of like the ION painter in the Unreal games). Brandon did find the guys, but they were so far away and the scope didn't make out much detail, so all his shots didn't connect.

It just means the mobs had longer range (obviously with a laser guided targetting thing).

Let me quote this for you from the gearbox forums.

Just read in my atomic MPC magazine that they snagged a play at the 'Power to the PC' tour in Australia. They said the game was running maxed on a laptop with a 2.16ghz dual core processor and a 9800GTX. and all this..at HD!! 1920 x 1080 guys. looks like this will be a very well optimised game.

yeah i actually saw this earlier....man i can't believe how awesome this game looks....it's like THE game i've always dreamed of....like diablo meets painkiller.

haha...you can do it!!! just think of all the phat lootz you'll be missing out on.

There's a purpose for gaming laptops... just most people buy them and don't use it for that purpose...

They're really nice if you LAN a lot and have a larger main setup... you just grab a laptop and maybe a spare keyboard/mouse/mousepad and your AC adapter and you're set... takes 30 seconds to get that vs. a few minutes to tear down a setup then carry it all out to the car and if you have a $900 monitor or a $300 case you don't wanna move and get banged up...

But I'm looking forward to Borderlands, hopefully get some friends in on it and play through it... they all like RPG's, but I like FPS so it should be a good mix :D

I'll buy it if I can find a grp or get in a grp on the 4 pack deal. PM me if you need a 4th person.

Brandon (guy doing the live stream) played with Mikey Neumann (the lead dev) in co-op earlier. Mikey showed off his gun that shot shot gun slugs, 7 at a time. It was insane.

EDIT: It's so cool to see bullets whizzing by from all directions.

Just saw Brandon use a grenade that heals you. Also saw a gun that generates ammo.

...and this game doesn't use cel shading.

Yeah, it's hand drawn textures .... which looks exactly like cel shading :p

Still very much looking forward to this, the co-op system sounds awesome.

I watched the live stream of Brandon for a few, but it was at a boring point in time; I will check back later.

Are there skills and/or attribute points that make a big difference, or is it just the weapons? In my opinion the sole thing that makes a fantastic RPG is having a highly tweakable character. Nothing like planning out a build to perfection that blows everything else away.

Skills, yes. Assignable attribute points, no.

Fuck it, pre-ordered since I don't want the hassle of finding 4 people lol.

I've been waiting for a hopefully good game that will be like D2. Get me a fucking long range sniper that shoots acid jellyfish STAT.

It only looks like cell-shading if you have no clue what cell-shading is. Wind Waker is cell-shaded. The DBZ Budokai games were cell-shaded. Borderlands is not.

I tuned into the live feed on and off all weekend and I was very impressed...

a few comments and concerns though. By last night Brandon was lvl 32 and nearly done with the game. What sort of end game is there? What motivation is there to keep playing?

Also, there doesn't seem to be much geographic variation. Also, you seem to be always outside, and 99% of it is non-indoor gameplay.

To put things in perspective, on day one of the live feed, Brandon went from level 1 to around level 23ish. On day 2, Brandon went from 23ish to 29ish. On day 3 (yesterday, he went from 29ish to 32. The leveling definitely slows down.

As far as motivation to keep playing: Same as Diablo 2. Get the next better item and then go have fun in the arena. I think the fans of this game realize the simplicity. Hell, Diablo 2 still has tons of players. In the same way that people play Diablo 2 off and on and keep coming back years after release, I see people playing BL. The difference is that, BL has devs actively making DLC (like Island of Dr. Ned ---google it).

It also looks like a blast to play. Pun not intended.

Geographic variation: Yea, I give you that. I'll have to see personally though. I don't see it making the game less fun, however.

Wow I just took a look at the talent tree and it seems there is actually some decent customization. We'll see, I might have to pick this game up.

There is a skill that the Roland gets that allows you to regenerate ammo. There are also some guns with unlimited ammo, but the weapon doesn't specifically say it gives you unlimited ammo.

Brandon wasn't playing as Roland. He was playing as Mordecai. He actually found two guns that had unlimited ammo, and you're right. The guns only hint at having unlimited ammo. One gun had flavor text that said something like "I forgot my ammo" or something like that.

I don't know why this game keeps getting compared against Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 is 90% RPG, and 10% FPS.
Borderlands is 90% FPS, and 10% RPG.
If Fallout 3 was Baldur's Gate. Borderlands would be Diablo.

It's closer to Hellgate: London, or Too Human.

How is Fallout 3 an RPG? FO3 was shoot shoot shoot, dialog, shoot shoot shoot, dialog.

No demo is a dealbreaker on this.
I am looking forward to an equally long thread starting in about 5 days where people are like "omg this sucks" "fkn hype made me buy this", etc. etc. The business concept of Borderlands is to sell enough copies to recoup the cost before the Internet finds out that the game is meh.

have you been watching the live feed ?

WTF? Were we even playing the same game? I think I probably aimed a weapon in combat less than 20% of the time in that game. It was all stat based.

ign gave it 8.8 but the live video stream showed the game to be atleast a 9 or 9.5

Unfortunately, the live stream is a running spoiler, but yeah, the game does look great. I hope the PC controls will be even better, since the console controls seem to be crap (not enough buttons).

The PC controls should be way better, seeming how the game was first conceived for the PC and not the other way around. It's not a console port. If anything, the 360/ps3 versions are ports of the PC game.

The stream didn't spoil anything for me because I probably spent half the time reading the chat. The dev team was in the chat to answer questions.
