i did bro.....jesus fucking christ....what do you want, a fucking cookie? i never came off like an expert. I simply said the real game played much better than the demo did.....
That's what I said, I don't know where you got all the other shit or why you felt like acting like a dickhead, but you succeeded.

Best Buy Canada hasn't canceled or shipped my preorder for the LE yet. Contacted them and they say it's listed as 'special order' from the manufacturer. I think there's about a 1% chance I actually get it, wonder how long I should wait.

They lost all respect from me when they recommended that $60 wireless piece of crap as a start point. I've used FFB wheels without power (ie. no FFB at all because the power adapter broke) and it was terrible, worse than just using a controller, even having a spring feedback is better than that.

So basically they recommended a wireless piece of crap, a wheel that's discontinued and you can only get on ebay (personally I'd never buy a wheel second hand as I know how much people abuse them), an expensive mad catz wheel that they haven't used, a thrustmaster that they think is crap and then the Fanatecs which are the same price and more expensive than the mad catz. Awesome :p

I also didn't realise that Darren is a Fanatec rep... now it makes sense why it sounds like an advertisement every time they talk about Fanatec stuff.

Honestly, while I like what the ISR guys TRY to do, they really dont do it all that well :p I haven't watched their show in a while... largely because it feels like a half hour show that could have been done in 10 minutes, someone needs to tell these guys that writing a decent script for a show is not a bad idea, they just spend ages fumbling through their comments that could have been said much more concisely.

Watching this video it seems like they're becoming increasingly sold out to people who give them peripherals to use, in this case the entire last 10 minutes (two thirds) of the video is a huge sales pitch for Fanatec.

those gys are completely ignorant.....he's like, "you know, it's not to bad considering these are pretty much in the same range" when comparing the $500 Elite CSR to the standard CSR and Porsche 2 which sell for $250.....

and on that point, i have manufacturing experience, i have a fairly good idea what they have in these units, they are making a freaking killing on these things.....there's not a ton of development and design work in a product like this......its really quite profane how much they are charging for those wheels "hey look for a wheel and pedal set you can buy three Xbox 360's" lol

then the other guy is like, "so lets say you want to get into Forza on a budget, and you want a wheel, pedal, shifter setup for less than $300......." then he says, well "we can get you close, $308 not including tax or shipping".....what an idiot....you can't get even a basic wheel, pedal, shifter set for under $300 freaking bucks? for a console that costs $200 ?

Needs to be punched repeatedly in the face and taught the meaning of the word 'budget'. Not a word on why these wheels are so expensive, it was a disgrace. For $400 you can buy a used PS3 + G27 + GT5 if you look around.

I don't know when Madcatz will release their FFB wheel, but I'm pretty sure it'll drop in price, probably ~200. That's the max I'm prepared to pay.

Supposed to be out in November from what I heard.

Hopefully its a decent wheel. Kinda in the air about the "JDM TYTE YO" looking shifter tho.. But itll prolly grow on me..

Yeah Darin stopped doing hardware reviews when he got the job with Fanatec. I don't think he should have participated in this buyer's guide, it comes off informercial-like. In fact I'm surprised he didn't cut all ties with ISR when he got the job.

I do like both Darin and Shaun for the passion and enthusiasm they have for sim racing. And credit to Shaun I think his hardware reviews are objective, he has a nice review of the T500RS.

If the video showed anything is that the selection for wheels for the 360 is not good.

This is a terrible state to be in. Forza 4 is here and it's awesome and we have no worthy wheel setup under $300 ish.....If I owned a G27 i'd be pissed. Hell, I am pissed!

Yeah, I like them for their passion and enthusiasm but not a lot else :p They have done some good reviews, but they've also done some really questionable ones where they recommend stuff that is clearly not worth the money. I also can't get over the fact that, even though its a relatively big show now, it still is constructed like an unscripted basement show. I was gonna say the production effort of a teenager in his parent's basement, but then I remembered some youtube videos of teenagers in basements are actually far superior as far as that is concerned :p Its not even quaint or anything, its just annoying because it takes them forever to say something meaningful and you have to listen to heaps of "well" "umm" "yeah" "hmm" *random 5 second pause as they think of what to say next*.

Maybe I'm starting to be a bit harsh though :p Like I said, I like their passion and enthusiasm, haha.

Read every post in the thread, and one question still sticks with me:

Is the game still worth it without a wheel?

Yeah man, you get used to controller play pretty fast. Its the best racing game on the 360 so if that's your thing go for it.

From what I've read the game is still pretty much designed with a controller in mind before anything else, so if you like any other racing games with controllers I dont see why you wouldn't like this one.

Personally I've played too much with a wheel and struggle to go back to a controller. Forza 1 on the original Xbox was the first game that actually inspired me to buy a wheel, so I bought the overpriced Fanatec Speedster 3. :p

The game is awesome with a wheel or with a controller. if you are on the fence wondering if it's worth the purchase... yes, it is, very much so. It is by far the best racing game I have played on a console. The car soccer and bowling modes are a BLAST to play for something different as well.

The gametrailers.com review said that there was a mode that you and your friends could just go on a 30 minute "joyride". Anyone know what they were talking about?

Well after reading the first few replies to my question I went straight out and bought it. I beat the Amateur and then the Clubman Divisions without even leaving my couch. Haven't played it yet tonight (due to work), but I definitely will.

I have my BMW reputation (can't remember the exact word they use) up to Level 6 or so now. BMW 2002 Turbo is pretty much the only car I've been driving so far, but that's okay since I'll get cheap future upgrades on any 1m, m3 or m5 (assuming they're in the game), and its a fun little car anyway.

The Autovista is pretty neat, and I'm a huge fan of Top Gear, so that's always a plus. Driving on the Top Gear track was great.

they really overdid the understeer thing after having a good week with it, it's a fun game and worthy successor but unfortunately they didn't really do much new for enthusiasts

everything the really serious racer types wanted was excluded. tuners wanted to be able to set suspension settings and tire pressure and whatnot on a per corner basis...something that arguably should have been in FM3, but for sure there is no excuse to exclude it from FM4

wheels....what the fuck....did all the wheel manufacturers stop making wheels in 2008? really? a full two years and all that development time later and we still have the same freaking parts and wheels to use on our rides, but hey....at least we got the ability to mindlessly drive around and knock down fucking bowling pins in Dodge fucking Rams

the AI is fairly mindless, they make the rival races that involve traffic more like playing grand theft auto...

no flat paint or vinyls? really? the mirrors on a lot of the cars has flat black surfaces, is it really that hard to make it an option for the designers?

all they had to do was take FM3 and do a few things to make it even better and release it as FM4.....they could have left out all the bowling pin and mindless AI bullshit....but then it wouldn't appeal to all the little kids who squeal on their mics and think its fun to wreck shit...great, just who I wanted to attract.....

im really disappointed in Turn 10 this time around. I paid $80 for the game preordered and $30 for the season pass DLC pack...and i feel like they pretty just tacked on a bunch of kiddie bullshit onto FM3, because if you compare the actual racing components like cars, tuning parts, tuning parameters, etc....everything aside from the "new" tire physics, is the same from a serious drivers point of view, and the fact that the understeer is way over-exaggerated makes that a moot point. I have to tweak the shit out of the suspension to get it out......using the same old parts and settings I had three years ago....

Games that have crappy driving models and forcefeedback would be better with a controller, but all those games are arcade by definition...I mention this as the word sim is used to describe virtually any ole racing game these days, but only a handful actually apply.

No wonder Gamespot scored this a 8.5 down from a 9.5 for FM3.....they knew that giving an equal score wouldn't wash as it seems the main diff are GFX.

im hard to please though, iRacing to me is garbage, pretty much all the "sims" that the "hardcore" racers claim to be the holy grail I actually detest. They go too far with the function over form. iRacing really pissed me off with the circa 2000 graphics, and the inability to do things I should be able to do when you advertise it as the ultimate driving simulator...like have real pits and be able to change my tires whenever the fuck i want

plus i cant be bothered with a pc game anymore, too old and it sucks to go sit in the office at a desktop, if i cant do it from my couch with a wireless controller in under a minute i dont want it and i really dont care

Sad, as now that we have extraordinary sim racing equipment{I mean it's literally fucking unbelievable what u can buy for racing games these days}, some people prefer the controller approach.

Have you ever used a wheel?
I know when I first started using a wheel I found it hard to set up, but these days it's often a piece of cake and if a racing game doesn't work with a wheel, it's all but dead to me.

As for iracing, a weird game to be sure, a game built by engineers for engineer types, as such it's totally devoid of any user friendliness, and is the complete opposite to the approach CM's have taken with Dirt2/3, and even F1 2011.

i have a wheel collecting dust, i simply cant be bothered to set it up. that means i have to have time first of all, then i have to go sit in the office away from everyone else, then set it up, then break it down.....its just not worth it, give me a controller and a couch, im done

i disagree - they finally made it react more like it does in the real world. going full lock at 70mph causes understeer on anything short of a LMP or formula style car, and slamming the controller stick all the way over is going full lock. if you try to brake while diving into a croner the rear end on a lot of cars gets very light and twitchy and the front tires start to slide, just like at the track or auto-x course. with FM3 tire model you could take a honda turn in sharply early, let the understeer pull you back off the apex, lightly back off of the steering lock and it would grip and pull you out of the corner. in FM4 the same manuver results in the back end swinging around and the whole car sliding off sideways out and away from the corner, just like in real life.

Biggest problem is the difference between what perceived feel should be and what actual physics says will happen.

I think you should really just get rid of the game if all of this bothers you that much. This game is great. It looks great. It sounds great. It plays great. The cars and the driving are awesome.

I think bowling and soccer are some of the most fun things I've been able to do with a racing game, when I don't feel like being all serious and just racing around a track.

    you dont get it

im not saying the game sucks because those things are there. What's there is good. Unfortunately what's there is essentially what was there two years ago with FM3. That's my point, that they did pretty much squat for the more serious racer types and almost everything they did was to cater to the PGR arcade racer types. Kinect, Autovista, Bowling, Soccer.....

I just wish they had done just one or two things, even seemingly small things like, for the enthusiast crowd, even something like adding some wheels made since 2008, if that meant spending a little less time programming bowling pins.

The issue is those who want to race semi-competitively have zero interest in those things. FM is the best thing going on the 360 for those type of people however, so it is a bit of a conflict of interests for us. We have to settle for less so that Turn10 can cater to the masses to sell more copies of the game. I was simply expecting something marginal in return, not to be greeted with essentially the same exact game as FM3 from a core racing point of view.

i feel like it's somewhere in between. I drive really aggressively and fast in my vehicles in real life. I rarely ever experience understeer on this scale. I don't drive a race car, daily drivers, even my beater 1991 Nissan D21 with stretched tight and wide Falken Ziex tires and a lowered suspension will carve corners with no understeer at speeds where these "simulated" supercars with super high end suspensions and tires are pushing....to be quite honest, in my hands my real life vehicles turn in much more like FM3 than FM4.

That being said, I agree that FM3 was a bit too sticky when it came to full on braking and turning, there was practically no understeer. They just went a little past realistic I think in order to exaggerate the new "feature". The real kick in the nuts for me was when I went in to upgrade and tune my car to resolve that understeer, I was greeted with the same exact options. underwhelming

The scope of this game is fairly large, all things considered. With a strict 2-year development timeline, I feel they did enough to make this feel like a very worthy successor to FM3.

And I do get it. However, if you want them to keep making these games, they need to cater to just more than the hardcore sim racers to sell games, because let's face it, those people are the vast minority. When you sit back and take in the game as a whole, whether or not you care about everything they've added or done... it's a huge undertaking, and there's a LOT of content here. Way more than any other console game so far as far as I'm concerned.

I'm sure that everything you want to see will come in due time. But they've gotta make enough money to keep the doors open.

i think the new tire model and redone career/money/rivalry mode were worth while updates and will make returning to FM3 difficult. there are options i would like to see added for tuning (being able to specifiy shift points for auto mode or having the ability to tune the HP and Torque curves, adjustable rear caster, front anti-dive and rear anti-squat angles adjustable on race suspension) however the tuning options as they are now are still too complicated for most people and adding more isn't going to help that problem. outside of the hardcore circle track guys, seperate corner tuning is fairly piontless, as you don;t have corner wieght info, only basic fornt/rear distrabution info. a proper flat paint option would be nice as would actual white rims, and i can't really tell a difference between the metallic paint and normal paint for the most part.

Yeah the wheel selection is weak. The best wheels from a lot of the manufactures aren't even in the game. It's nice to be able to change the wheels but the options underwhelm.
