Forza 4 fans?

so the demo is out on XBL, played it a bit, i am somewhat underwhelmed but its going to hold me for a few years more than likely, but the Rival game mode AI is completely broken......reminds me of playing Need For Speed or Grand Theft Auto racing through traffic and ignorant AI

the quick race AI is good when set to AI, wish you could set it in the Rival mode, hopefully this changes in the real game and is only a demo thing

Pros:
Graphics are improved, fairly fluid, lighting engine changes are nice but overall a minor upgrade from FM3
Sounds are improved I think, sounds pretty darn realistic
Cockpit view details are really good

Cons:
Collisions/damage is still gimped as much as FM3, so any hopes of getting semi-realistic damage are dashed...
Music sounds like an old Sonic the Hedgehog game soundtrack....fairly disgusting, and i'm into all sorts of electronic type music....
Rival mode as mentioned above is like playing Need For Speed or racing in Grand Theft Auto, too bad they spent time on this game mode instead of polishing other aspects

Of course this is still a demo and things could be different but I don't expect the parts I mentioned to change much between now and Tuesday Oct. 11

It kinds of gets to me though, because this was supposed to be their answer to GT5, and instead it feels like a reworked FM3 without Porsches

I disagree with mostly all of the cons you have listed but to each their own. I think the demo kicks serious ass with the exception of not being able to turn off the music and not being able to customize the controls but obviously it won't be that way in the retail version. Everything is improved from FM3 which was already away ahead of GT5. This is the final nail in the coffin for the GT series. This is coming from someone that owns every GT game and every Forza game. I've been playing FM3 for the last few weeks just to stay polished on my racing skills and I love the new changes in FM4, the simulation steering puts a huge grin on my face. I love it!

dont get too much in a hurry, they still havent gifted the exclusive FM3 cars to those who preordered FM4 yet......

thanks, for what it's worth the fine print is a bit misleading
Offer good ... ...per person. A gift will be at least three cars and may be more. The first car to be made available is for use in Forza Motorsport 3. This offer... ...Microsoft. Once your Gamertag is verified, and Forza Motorsport 4 is released, you will receive your first car in Forza Motorsport 4 within one month.

so at least 3 cars, with one for FM3, a month after FM4 hits?

also for those that pre-ordered through an online retailer, are we suppose to send a picture of the confirmation page?

This game kicks serious ass. Big time. If anyone doesn't think so, go play something else because you're not noticing the important details anyway. The new physics/tire model and steering are AWESOME. Cars drive and behave EXACTLY as they should. Sound is fantastic, probably some of the best I've heard out of a racing game. Graphics are great, with a good sense of speed and the fluidity is amazing.

One thing you notice right away is the lighting model. IBL makes a HUGE difference in how this game looks. I cannot wait for next week. I plan on sinking MANY hundreds of hours into this game.

Ok im a die hard forza fan i own all 3 of the current ones and plan to purchase 4 regardless of the reviews. But since downloading the demo today my personal review is blah. Same as the jump from 2 to 3 graphics got better and the menus are different. And for some reason the game seems more like an arcade game than a simulation game. I switched back and fourth between forza 3 and forza 4 for an hour or so. Definatly like forza 3's driving better. Tr it out you'll be amazed the difference.

downloaded the Demo today, 3 cars you can drive, the 458, sti, and an old muscle car! :p damn this game actually looks and feels GREAT

you can turn off the music by launching the game, then using your controller middle button to access the mini menu, and go to the left to your music library, start something playing and then pause it, then return to the game, it stops the game music from playing :)

Yea, I read about the work-around later after I posted that, but its still a temporary work-around. Its only a few more days until release so I can live with it until then.

Thanks though!

Well, I disagree but that's simply because I love the new simulation steering in FM4. That being said, I'm still playing FM3 so that I can notice the subtle differences between the two games and I can say that FM3 was and is still awesome in every way. That being said, based on the demo, if the retail version isn't different, I'm going to love it just as much if not more than FM3.

One thing I'll say is that I've developed full confidence in Turn 10 and Dan Greenwalt to steer(no pun intended) the Forza series in the right direction and make the right decisions to keep the game fresh and innovative, as well as fun. So far Dan and Turn 10 haven't dissapointed me yet with each new Forza game so I have full confidence that FM4 will be the best of the series yet and I'm just thrilled that Dan and Turn 10 are giving me the games that I've been wanting since the original GT-GT3 games. GT4 and GT5 have been major dissapointments and in my opinion they've lost touch with what makes a great racing game, coupled with the fact that they can't seem to hit a proper release date timeline only makes it worse.

Its hard for die hard GT fans to let-go of an old franchise that used to be the only franchise that mattered in console racing, but the fact is Forza is the king of console racing and has been since FM3, arguably FM2 as well.

I can't wait to tune the cars....Dan Greenwalt said in a recent blog entry that the new tire model would much more realistically simulate understeer like turning when braking or accelerating (RWD). Not only is it there, but it's pretty bad. It makes the untuned version of these cars difficult to drive at speed.

What is this steering difference everyone keeps talking about? I always left all of the assists off in FM3. Same with FM4, and I don't see a difference?

from what I can tell, it's alot easier to get the back end to "snap" out.

I have already seen the understeer while braking and I think its very noticeable compared to FM3 when using simulation steering in FM4. If you go too fast into a turn, with FM3, you could hit the brakes pretty hard and turn the wheels and still make the turn if the car had good brakes and handling. In FM4 if you do the same, the car will continue to slide with the wheels in the direction you were going since traction is limited in that scenario. I'm not saying FM3 didn't do it also, but I do feel its certainly much more noticeable in the FM4 demo. It seems that you will be forced to slow down a bit more going into a turn and you will also need to brake in a straight line as opposed to braking and turning at the same time.

I found the cars actually felt about right, tire wise for once. the Cougar was twichy to snap steering steering inputs, the STI initially understeers and then throws the tail out to nuetralize, the 458 was hesistant to give up traction and even more so to regain it, but most importantly the amount velocity dumped by slidding the tires through a turn was noticable.

the difference between normal steering and simulation steering is basicly for the controller vs wheel crowd. the dampend inputs are better in normal mode for those of us with controllers who basicly pulse width the steering input, where as i can see the more sensitive nature of the simulation mode benefiting those with wheels that can make for more precise and accurate inputs.

i don't like ABS feel, it is better, but still easily out done by even crappy threshold braking. i do not like them moving the rewind button to Y and the change view button to Back. the difficulty delta between AI levels is still too big. easy is a joke, your lapping people. medium you have passed everyone by 50% of lap one, hard and your chasing the mclaren/holding them off the entire race. way to big of jumps. also the ai lap times in difficulty levels should come from them falling off the line or making mistakes, not adjusting the performance levels of their cars.

From what I read the simulation steering was designed for wheels but it also gives the controller crowd complete control of the steering without any hidden assists. I like the feel of simulation steering even with a controller, its more challenging but feels more like the way a real car would steer.

I agree that I don't like the rewind button mapped to the Y button instead of the back button, but I'll hold off on whining until I see if I can change it in the retail version which we likely can.

I agree with the AI levels too, don't really understand why they can't have more than 3 levels of AI dfficulty, for all of the data that they use to simulate how a car should handle, can they not create 5-7 linear levels of AI difficulty, to go with each of the difficulty settings?

Late to the party. Is wheels supported in the demo? Doesn´t appear so on my Turbo S?

I finally got around to playing the demo last night. I wasn't able to spend much time with it, and just did a single race, so I'll have to toy around with it more, trying the other vehicles they give you, etc. Either way I liked it.

I don't have time right now to confirm it but I think some wheels are supported. I saw a few forum posts on the Forza forums about playing the demo with a wheel and how it felt.

What issues are you having? My Fanatec PWTS seems to work fine with the demo. Getting good feedback from the main motor and even rumble effects from the rim motors. Might check if you need an updated firmware?

I really hate IGN but reading that review got me more excited. Its going to suck being focused on moving when this comes out. I'll try and squeeze in some hours but man , I really want this game.

I've got days scheduled off from work just to play next week. I never do that with ANY game except Forza every two years when a new one is released. :)

yup everyone is getting kicked out of my house so i can play forza 4 without any one bothering me while i race on top gears test track!!!!

if you guys haven't seen some of the tracks/cars being put in the game i suggest going to forza's website.

Man I cant wait, been playing the crap outta the demo..

Still got forza 1 sitting here :) mite toss it in for a little nostalgic ride. ahah

This is coming from someone who grew up on GT1 and 2..

I feel your pain. The wife has gotten used to me backing off on the video game hours and now this is coming out a few days before her birthday, for which we are leaving town. Going to be a week before I get to put in any real time with it. Son of a bitch.

Forza 3 was great, and after the disappointment that was gt5, this is my new favorite racing franchise. After I finish dark souls, this is next on my list.

The only thing that GT5 has over Forza (and this is nothing to do with the game or Sony) is that you can use a G27 wheel with it. Racing wheel options for the Xbox are few and far between - spending $400 on a CSR wheel setup is craziness, and the wireless wheel is a joke.

Wow, just went through 150 pages of pictures of Forza 4 cars..

My jaw hurts from hitting my desk so many times..

Come on tuesday!!

Indeed. MS needs to open up the usage of other wheels like the G27. This single issue prevents it from be accepted by the GT audience. You simply must be able to use a good wheel that doesn't cost a fortune. Playing a racing game of this quality with a controller is a crime.

Unfortunately that's a HUGE thing. If Forza supported the G25/G27 I can safely say I would have bought a 360 years ago and would own all the Forza games. As it is, I still dont own a 360 and the last Forza game I owned was on the original Xbox.

There's not a chance in hell I'm going to pay several hundred for some Fanatec wheel that's more expensive than the wheel I already own and is debatably not much (if at all) better than it.

Isnt there an adapter out that lets you use the G25/G27? Not sure if im remembering correctly, but i thought there was..

Imma do a bit of research..

There is an adapter that lets you use a G25 as a controller, but not as a wheel. So no FFB or anything, just rumble effects. Unless they've updated it to allow FFB, but I haven't heard anything about that. If they have made it so it acts like a wheel instead of a controller with actual FFB then sign me up :p

Hmm yea they work as a gamepad instead of an actual wheel still.. kinda sucks..

I still kick my self in the ass for selling my DriveFX wheel a while back.. Now I cant find another one to save my life..

Well, if you really want to experience Forza 4 the way the developers intended, the Fanatec CSR wheel is probably going to be the best option since that's the official wheel for the game. Only you can justify if its worth the cost. I certainly wouldn't mind buying a nice wheel and pedals, but I've yet to figure out how to properly set them up and use them in my living room. I've certainly seen a lot of setups and stands, but none of them have really appealed to me. It would certainly have to be something thats quick and easy to break down because I couldn't leave it in the living room all of the time.

I refuse to spend 250 dollars on just a wheel, to me thats idiotic. Sure it may be a nice wheel, but no pedals? I cant just let go of that much money for something silly like that..

Why did Logitech stop making entry level wheels.. Used to see em all over the place and now, they are no where to be found..

I guess Ill just be using my razor onza controller. :(

Fucking best buy just cancelled my preorder for the limited collectors edition. Couldn't have told me a month ago, or even yesterday when they said they were going to ship the damn fuzzy dice that came with pre-ordering from them. Now amazon, gamestop, microsoft and walmart are all sold out on the limited collector editions.
Fuck you best buy.

yea lots of people got theirs canceled from bestbuy and amazon..

LCE is on high demand from what the guy at gamestop told me..

Forza LCE $80, DLC Season Pass one $30, CSR wheel $250, CSR Elite Pedal set $150, CSR Shifter $70 = $580....to play one game.....and even then you have to have the space and chair to set up the wheel, pedals, etc....so then you're looking for a seat setup....another couple hundred bucks.....

I love Forza as much as the next guy. It is the ONLY game I will play on my 360 for the next couple years, and even I cannot justify paying that kind of loot for a game.

Exactly... that's waaaaay too much to pay for only 1 game. I already own a high quality wheel which I paid about $250AUD to get, its absurd I should need to pay so much to get a brand new wheel JUST for Forza. MS and Fanatec can go fuck themselves with their overpriced exclusive and limited wheels.
