Forza 4 fans?

the point is for $250 you should be providing someone with the whole setup, wheel, pedals and shifter....or at minimum wheel and pedals with paddle shifters built into wheel

$280 is a crap ton of money for most people just to play FM4 when a decent wheel and pedal set used to be had for $150 and especially a lot of money when they have a perfectly good Logitech G27 sitting next to them that they paid $250-$300 for that is now useless for FM4

I hear your argument about price, but can you honestly say you've used the new Fanatec CSR wheel and its not worth the price? I can't. I would love to say its just not worth the money but who knows, I could use the wheel and realize that it brings my enjoyment of Forza 4 to a level that I can't get anywhere else. The reviews that I've seen for the CSR wheel say its tbe best wheel ever made. There's a review on Youtube for it, check it out. I'm not prepared to say its overpriced and not worth it until I've tried it.

I dont think he was saying its overpriced (at least that's not how I read it). You could have a $50 wheel and if its a piece of shit then its overpriced or you could have a $5,000 set up and if its made tough as nails with proper steel helical gears, high quality motors and wrapped in carbon fibre, that may not be overpriced if its actually worth the money you're paying for it. I'd be surprised if the Fanatec wheels aren't overpriced simply because I think all their MS compatible wheels are overpriced going back to the Fanatec Speedster 3 that I bought for the original Xbox :p Maybe they'll surprise me this time.

But beyond the "overpriced" thing, there are two issues...

1. Where's the quality wheels at lower price points? Something like the Driving Force GT. I haven't really been following the 360 wheel situation, are they actually bringing out quality wheels at lower price points?

2. Its still a pain in the arse paying $250 for a wheel when you already have a $250 wheel sitting next to you.

So you're argument is for better wheel support, meaning more supported wheels since there are already many on the market?

As for the Fanatec CSR, I can't comment because I haven't used it and it may very well be the best wheel ever. The reviews are certainly making it out to be.

Yep, that's been my number one problem with the 360 since day 1.

Yeah well like I said, I can't and wasn't and dont believe nobody_here was commenting on the value of the wheel itself. It might be a great wheel for the money. That's never been the complaint as far as I can see. As far as reviews are concerned, I've only read a couple, but the thing about a high end peripheral is often people review it as if they are comparing it to cheaper components. Like, reviewing a $500 set of headphones and saying they're awesome but then you realise the review is worthless because they either dont have a critical ear and/or they're only comparing them to $200 headphones. The same goes for wheels, sometimes people review a $500 wheel + peddle + shifter set up and say its awesome without proper comparison or critique.

I'm not saying that's definitely the case here, but we all know game reviews are really shaky and unreliable, high end peripheral reviews are even worse in my experience.

Tuds is correct. $250 is even.too much for my taste but I am sure it is nice. But if I had a long standing benchmark wheel like the G27 sitting next to me, I would be pretty pissed if only the Fanatec was supported by the best racing game for the 360.

Point taken, sounds like its a Logitech issue though if MrCrispy's information is correct.

Been playing for the last couple hours. Feels like Forza 3.5 to me. The actual graphics while driving don't seem to be any better. Car selection is kind of weak. For instance there is no 2011+ 5.0 Mustang or 2012 Boss. I expected more "new" cars not just the Forza 3 lineup plus DLC.

This game is bad ass, I've put in a few hours so far.

Got a nice C-Class S13 Silvia, set a pretty decent time on Tskuba Short C class with my 240sx.

I played some rivals mode, that is amazing. Very fun to chase someone's ghost for laps and laps and laps and finally get to see them in the rearview... then move on to the next guy's spot.

If anyone is a mediocre/average racer like myself, send me a friend request: NismoGrendel. I try to race clean and play in mornings.

You would certainly be in the minority in regards to your opinion. However, as for your 2011 Mustang and 2012 Boss request since its quite obvious you're a Mustang fan, there will be monthly DLC packs coming over the next 6 months. I'm hopeful those cars will make it as well as many others on my wish list.

You could go back to playing GT5 and 46 versions of each car if you're not happy with the FM4 car selection.

I bought the Season Pass DLC pack and it includes the Muscle Car pack as the first DLC :)

Anyone pick up the game today? Impressions? The reviews for F4 are off the charts, some claiming its the best racing game to date. Thats a tall order, and I may wait a few months to get this but I'm curious for some hands on impressions.

I got limited seat time, see posts above, initial impression is the demo was gimped bad. The real deal has.much more realistic handling.

I bought the game at 10am this morning right when gamestop opened and I just stopped playing.
A good 7hrs straight.
Its a gloomy rainy day in Atlanta and I had no class or work. Perfect for gaming.

I can say right now that this is the best racing game I have ever played. I struggle to stop playing.
The cars, the sounds, the looks keep my mouth on the floor. I can say that physics is much better then FM3 and graphics look a lot better to me.
Autovista is one of the most impressive features I've seen in a racing game. So much detail & info with Jeremy Clarkston!
I have a few gripes about the game but nothing serious. Mainly, that after about 45minutes of racing with anycar (once you get your affinity level up), you get everything 100% discounted from the upgrade shop. Kind of a bummer cause it takes away that feeling of working hard to max out the vehicle but, that I can live with it.
Personally I think it blows GT5 out of the water with every single thing except for photomode. (and Ive owned gt2, gt3, gt4, and waited 7years for gt5)
I dont even know if I want to get the 2.0 update because I know FM4 is already better in my eyes.

Now enough typing. Ive got to get back. I'd recommend this game to anyone who loves cars, racing, and customization.

Autovista F10 M5. cellphone pic of my tv lol

I wish so much that this had G25/27 support.

Ok, i did great in all the F/E/D races (Easy 1st place) but these C/B/A races are kicking my ass

Yes I drive a 2011 GT500 with the SVT package. I find leaving out the new new 5.0 GT as a big miss. Not everyone wants to drive exotics all the time. Not saying it's a "bad" game just that it doesn't seem much improved over 3 which I enjoyed. As for the graphics the only time they are significantly better are the Autovista mode. Which is cool but not the main game by any means. (I'm playing on a 55HX929 which is second only to the Elite for LCD picture quality)

I like how you jump on me being a GT5 fan with your last comment. I own it and played it for a week. It's been at my father's ever since because I thought it was crap for being in development for so long.

Small world i got a BOSS 302 in Maryland, seen your posts on TMS

Love the game so far..

But im getting kinda annoyed with my xbox. I installed the game to the HD, but for some reason its playing off the disk..

If i go to the game info it shows the HD icon, but on the main screen it shows a disk. And no matter which way i load it, it still loads off disk..

Nothing changed in the game code in the full game from the demo, you're just able to explore the different features now.

The 458 Italia in the beginning race handled much better this time...compared to the demo handling.

The introduction race in FM4 has all of the driving assists turned on. It even brakes for you. The demo was not setup that way. The code for the demo and full game is the same, the only difference is that the introduction race has all of the assists turned on to make it easier to drive. That intro isn't meant to be a race, but just a quick lap around the Bernise Alps to let you see the game, that's why all of the assists are turned on. If you go back and play the demo and set it to easy, or turn on all of the driving assists, you will find that it's just the same.

It sounds like you prefer to play the game on easy difficulty, or at least you seem to prefer using the driving assists. That's certainly fine, that's why they included them, but it give you no feel for how the real car drives. The intro lap around the Alps is pretty lifeless in my opinion, I kept wanting to drive hard into the corners but the auto braking and traction assists just kill all of the fun.

you're right, im the only one who would rather have a simulation type game vs. an arcade racer

I do find this post humorous now realizing that you prefer to play FM4 with all of the driving assists on instead of driving it with them off. You thought the introduction lap around the Bernise Alps felt right to you when it had all of the driving assists enabled, but you're a "sim racer", not an "arcade racer".

You still need to use the brakes on a real car with driving aids in a turn compared to an arcade game. It is all about the handling feel of the car on the road, I suppose. Most people drive their real cars with driving aids anyway and that is probably used as the basis of comparison of sim vs arcade.

You know, the first thing I do is remove the assists. Make your way over to the rivals mode, go to the spec races and the Viper CC at IMS. Last night I beat Ayo Jubes time and ended up in the top 17% I believe, and that's with no assists everything simulation. Feel free to post your time..or gamertag...if you should want some more laughs.

loving the game so far. My only real problem with the game is the Cpu drivers. I have been rammed multiple time right off the starting line. Watched them plow into each onther on straight lines, and other random stuff. Makes it hard to run a clean race when they tend to drive so crazy.

Dude, you have no control over removing the assists in the introduction lap on the Bernese Alps. They're automatically enabled and you have no choice but to finish the lap with them on, but I'm sure you knew this already...SIM RACER! ;)

Man up to what? I get about 30 minutes to an hour each day to play if I'm lucky, I have an 8 month old son that takes prioirty over any games. I was simply stating a fact and getting a little kick out of some of your comments for a person that comes off like an expert on all things racing. Enjoy Forza 4, that's what its made for.

hey choir preacher....im 35, married, two young kids, work 50 hours a week and go to school part time in the evenings....on launch day i think i got to play from 10-12pm, only because the kids were in bed by then and the wife didn't have any shows on TV. I have maybe three cumulative hours in the seat. I really enjoy playing and playing competitively when I play, even though I don't get much time, so you will have to spare me the excuses. Perhaps I should state the obvious twice in case you didn't read it correctly the first time. So unless you are prepared to take it I suggest you not dish i mmmkay? . ;)

Wow, people spending $250 on those fanatec steering wheels. When they get them they are already messed up, Numerous people have been complaining about a whining noise coming from them.

Damn shame..

I've had my Fanatec for 2 years, it's been great. Only thing that has gone wrong was a noisy 80mm fan which they quickly replaced. It's natural to post about things you have problems with, if you don't you just enjoy it.

So how do you look for specific rivals, do they have to be friends in xbox live?

Anyways @ the Indy spec thing I'm @ 1:33.125 (position 260), I'll put some more laps in if you guys are doing it still, otherwise not a huge fan of Indy as a road course. I do have ABS on since it's on the real car...

In my career I have a '72 2002 cuz I've wanted one since I was a kid, no ABS on that sucker, what a hoot it is to throw that thing around

Played for a couple hours just in Free play, trying out various cars. This is a fantastic game, I wouldn't say a huge upgrade over Forza 3 at 1st glance but lots of little touches here and there. Top Gear and Jeremy Clarkson are a huge plus for me!

I wish the Fanatec wheel was sold in stores, and maybe had a demo, so I could try it out. Its too costly anyway, I'm not willing to spend that much and have to deal with shipping it back if it doesn't work.

I hear your argument about price, but can you honestly say you've used the new Fanatec CSR wheel and its not worth the price? I can't. A peripheral which costs more than the console (like 2x more) is overpriced, no matter how good it is! Reasons why this costs so much -

- Fanatec is a low volume producer, their target is not mass market. And they need high prices to make a profit
- Microsoft licensing fees are really high ($50-100), without those you can't use the special code needed for Xbox wheels, unlike on a PC/PS3
- there is not enough demand

Yeah, the availability of their wheels is pretty shit. I can drive to at least half a dozen stores within 5 minutes drive which sell the G25/27. If Fanatec had that sort of set up I probably would have caved in and bought one of their wheels, but its easy to think twice or three times about buying a Fanatec wheel when its such a pain in the arse to get.

I'm not taking or dishing anything. You made a silly comment, came off like an expert and I pointed out your mistake. How about you man up and admit you were wrong about the demo? That takes a lot more balls than someone to play a game and try to beat a lap time.

I'm really like the Autovista mode, much more than I ever thought I would. Just being able to see such rare and exotic cars in such detail and actually sit in them and start them up is a damn cool feature. Its likely as close as I'll ever get to some of these cars so its nice to be able to experience them this way.

This is a really great game. I spent an embarrassing amount of time yesterday just playing the lowest 2 classes in career mode. Looks great, sounds great, plays great, more content than any normal human could ever hope to consume, etc.

I haven't been able to get the Kinect stuff to work from my couch, so I haven't tried that yet, but it wasn't a big selling point anyway.

Definitely recommended. I need more practice with the beastly cars, but I'm a force to be reckoned with in a Ford Ka now. :D

lmao. me and some buds had a blast in those last night.. Didnt think 64 hp could be so devastating.

He started flipping where you see the smoke begin. It was like a pinball game all the way down.. such fun..
