EVGA Overtake

Something seems to be up with the 8057s, I haven't got one in a while now and it seems EVGA's production has dropped tremendously.
 
Brought a 480 online, which is currently crunching on a 8018 for a whopping 24K..My cpu is sitting idle atm, since whenever I load the gpu+cpu my UPS goes into meltdown mode and beeps/honks/screams until powering off..

Do you really need a UPS? Live on the (pretty damned wide unless you live in a bad power area) edge dude! (or buy a bigger one) :D

Mute it. Chances are though if it is screaming it won't protect you if the power goes out.

Hell yeah! I went 10 months on the 8P without a UPS (or two since it would need two haha). 850W may not be as high as some of these overclocked 6180SE machines, but it still turns the meter!
 
Looks like EVGA fell off our radar. Hopefully the beta GPU WU will not spring back up.
 
I got a bunch of the beta WUs yesterday, so they are still out there somewhere. Maybe the selection criteria got changed somehow for getting them?? Before yesterday it had been very hit and miss for me getting them. Looks like I got a regular unit right now, so who knows...
 
I'm fixing to shut down my GPU boxen as soon as this 8018 completes.
I haven't had a 8057 in days, so it's not worth the electricity to me.
 
I see a feeding frenzy on gtx 460 (and similar) cards coming.

I totally agree. Until the QRB makes its way to every GPU project, the points just aren't worth it in comparison to SMP or bigadv projects. I've already shut down my GPUs out of frustration.... though I think I'll start them back up just to let them finish the units they're working on.

I dunno about that even before qrb, most nvidia gpus pull more ppd than smp...unless you're running smp on a 2p or a 12thread. SMP is a joke in the points contest compared to gpu or bigadv

Not really, even in windows SMP can get 20-25k, you need a 580/680 to get near that, a 460/560 only get 10-14k

I was averaging about 35 to 40K PPD per SMP box on a 2700K @ 4.6GHz. On a OC'd 670, I'm making maybe 20K PPD on a typical 8018. And on top of that, the systems I have set up for GPU folding each use on average 80W more than they did when SMP folding. The CPUs have even been down clocked back to stock and only the GPU is set up to fold.

EDIT: Just threw some numbers around and figured I'd have to be making at least 54K PPD on a GPU box to get the same PPD/W efficiency as regular SMP folding on the same box.
Further EDIT: I have a hunch that even though the QRB for GPU units might get adjusted downward by a fair margin, the bonus will still be significant enough to make GPU folding more efficient than SMP folding.

Well, with QRB, if the benchmark GPU stays as the gtx 460, the frenzy should be on anything faster than a stock 460 in order to maximize QRB. I just bought some used 560Ti/570s to replace the last of my G92-based GPUs. I already had some 460s OC'd that are getting ~96k @ 1600 shaders with v2.22 of the core on a 8057.
 
The used GTX580 I just put into service picked up an 8057.
I OC'd to 850MHz and the PPD was about 202K, TPF of around 1:29.
I only received two of these WUs amongst some 8018s and 8054s I think.

Luck of the draw sbinh I was getting nothing but 8018 for a few days then 8054 for a coupple days. I started getting the 8057's a day ago again so sooner or later they should start comming your way. :)
 
I had trouble getting these when I first turned my 460's back on. Finally took out my advancedmethods flag and turned packets to middle setting and since then I been getting them regularly. The big packets thing I didnt realize I needed. All with version 6.41 r2.
