EVGA Overtake

you think?

the bias is rather painfully obvious, maybe I should go search for aliens and let them cure cancer

lol... I think we will have a better chance at curing cancer... besides if we leave who will do the work?

Thanks!

I got my roommate's GTX 670 folding while he's gone during the weekend. Have to take advantage of these crazed GPU QRB numbers! Don't give me that "you can't help out the beta team if you do that then" ... yeah evga, think you can hoard all those units to yourself. My reply to the beta forums: yeah they don't crash and give mad points!

This can't be true... bruce said specifically that there has never been a ppd bonus for beta testing...

EVGA just put up a record 37.9M points yesterday. We need to get every fermi card we can up and folding these beta units. I have 3 up now - 2 in Windows and 1 in Linux, running the 6.41 console client. If you haven't switch your card over to get these units, make it a priority to do it.

While I understand about the Fermi > Kepler thing, we could probably use every Kepler as well.

We need to step it up, OCN's last update on EOC was 2.1m more than ours.
If we want to keep our #1 spot we are gonna have to fight, [H]ard and fast!

I've been getting a plague of 6901s and 8101s hitting my 4p's lately, so if others have had the same problem, that's good for a near 50% ppd nerfing..

depending on how this GPU beta thing pans out.... you may wana use some of the "toys" that you get to review to supplement your 4P.

My gut tells me that unless there is a point nerf on gpu wu or qrb on smp/bigadv units, we goinna get mowed.

Well, it was getting about time to shift some of my G92 based GPUs and this has gotten me off the fence. I've taken a whole box, 3x G92s and gotten a 560Ti and two 570s to replace them. Went from ~18kPPD to 8018s, I'm seeing ~60kPPD, if all three get 8057s, 400kPPD. I've also just purchased a 1kW PSU for my other triple PCIe box in anticipation of replacing those G92s with more Fermis. For the [H]orde, let's bring the noise.

We can ramp every bit as well as EVGA. What we need right now is a commitment from the Pande Group on at least the short term future on the project. I do not think that this is unreasonable. If I need to start swapping 4ps for quad GPU rigs, I will. I do not want to spend the thousands to do this without something from PG saying that this is the way they are going to go for the next 6 months - 1 year. I do not think that this is an unreasonable request.

Musky, that's the issue, who know what everything is going to look like in a month. I know I'm in a waiting period to see how it all pans out. I don't want to buy a few new GPU's then have them change the QRB

My thoughts exactly. Though I do not think the 'Pande Group' will comment to anything. I have spent about $10K over the last 6 months and I expected to be an investment that would last a year or more. The new GPU point allocation has killed my enthusiasm to invest a sinle penny more.

I'm sure that Pande Group might let our DAB know what's going on if he asks real nice.
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I doubt it.

The other part of equation.....

If a larger WU gets out that SMP does relatively better with and the GPU chokes on (relatively) then the ratio could be variable. That is what tear and I talked about. So even if we got an answer from PG... it could only be in reference to the beta unit... and it is a beta unit.

Here is my take from my position:
I was 100% SMP/-bigadv folding.

I am running a single 660ti GPU now.

If the QRB stays within range of current beta and no keplar support yet, I will probably pick up a few GTX460s
If the QRB stays within range of current beta and we get keplar support, I will pick up more 660ti cards as I think they will be some of the best folders for price.
If the QRB is reduced, I will probably still fold with GPUs, but not build a dedicated GPU rig.

There are a bunch of variables right now. We have to see where they land.

just picked up a 460 off of the forums to hopefully help out .. :(

It actually lasted a reasonable amount of time.. I checked back at around 2:30 and it was still in stock. $120 for that card was a steal, especially if the points stay this way.

Oh well, back to hunting for used GPU's I shouldn't be buying!

Down to 1.5 months until overtake, and the 24 hour averages still aren't quite showing how badly we are getting beat. At this rate, I don't think we will be able to hold them off until the end of the year. Get those fermi's and keplar's up and folding folks!

Just bought a couple of 470SC's on the forums here, to replace a couple aging GTX260's. Hopefully those will get here in the next few days and contribute to our totals.

Lit up a pair of GTX 460s. Might be able to get a third cranked this afternoon

Bought another 570, I couldn't help it; was a bargain. One more and I can retire all my G92 based cards and be full on Fermi. Hopefully tomorrow I can build a frankenbox with 2x Fermis and a 9800GX2, as my 1kW PSU has arrived. Captain, we are gonna need moar cooling!

Let me know how that 570 does. I found one for sale locally that I may be interested in. I don't recall seeing numbers for them anywhere, though.

A 40M point day by EVGA yesterday - and this is on the 20th, so it has nothing to do with the bucks.

Maybe Stanford will give us a free 15M ppd some day...

Heh. The Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus are more realistic expectations.

Heh. The Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus are more realistic expectations.

It happened for EVGA....just when things looked bleak and hopeless for them regaining #1, Pande Claus came through for them with ridiculously inflated points for WUs right in their wheelhouse.

We can always hope...

Got a good deal on at used GTX580, 772MHz.
Should be able to add it by next Tuesday.
Oh, my aching electric bill........

Funny we felt the same way when the bigadv's came out. We had many threads about how you all were a CPU heavy team and we were a GPU heavy team and how we didn't stand a chance against you.
You guys are amazing with your 4p set ups, the guides and how you optimize your rigs is second to none.
Of course I'm happy about the GPU QRB but I'm not expecting it to stay that way and if it does I'm sure you will step up and adapt as you've done before.

All those GPUs, seeing an increase of at least a 10x increase in production (when on a QRB unit), plus at least 300 more active members....nah, we're not scared. :)

Stopped my sulking and added a 1M/PPD back online.

We had a nice 2M point win yesterday - I'm sure it was due to the 8057 GPU units being unavailable for most of the day. The 8057s are back, so keep those GPUs coming!
