Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

Well my copy of Diablo3 has officially paid for itself, thanks to 1.03 and the new drop rates. Off an item that could not have dropped in A1 inferno before the patch. Its amazing what people buy and what they will pay. Best patch ever! :)

How do you figure? I'm assuming you just sold something on the AH and your sales have added up to what you paid for the game. But it is not that simple my friend. You've clearly put in a finite amount of time to get this done. This has value, and arguably probably the biggest value (at least in my case). Your computer has consumed power while playing the game, your isp service needed to play this game. If you want to run your parade through these streets and call it official then I really hope you put in your due diligence into ALL the factors involved. :D

Because of most of these factors, you'll likely never "officially" climb out of the hole. But anyway, props to you for selling stuff on the AH.

Marginal and Fixed costs associated with the active enjoyment of the game can be ignored. This assumes that his enjoyment of the game is worth his costs associated with playing the game.

He is clearly referring to the initial investment of $60 in the game, and how he has made that money back.

In that vein, I've come up with a questionnaire to try to gain insight into the selling/buying habits of DIablo 3 RMAH users:
How many items have you sold?
What are people finding sells on the RMAH item/stat wise?
Do you only sell Inferno items or have you sold Hell/Nightmare/Normal items? How many have you sold of each?
Is there a certain stat that sells more?
What would you say is your highest price per stat item that usually sells?
Do you set a lower bid price and higher buyout / What is your bid/buyout strategy?
Do you price according to items already listed? If so, do you list according the lower priced items, or the higher?
Do you use the blizzard account or paypal option?
Do you buy and sell on the RMAH as if it were a commodoties index? If so, what items do you target? If not, do you only sell items?

I cant even tell if you are serious, lol. I hope not!

Its awesome that a game can pay for itself while you are playing it anyway. Hell at this rate I will probably end up getting back all the cash I've thrown at Blizzard over many years of WoW and SC and whatnot. There is no game like it without getting into grey-market sales.

For the two people here interested in more than just crying about the game, it looks like full Act1 clears are pretty profitable now that it drops ilvl63. It clears quickly and effortlessly at reduced repair costs vs later acts.

Though, I'm not terribly excited about the loss to dps via the ias changes (went from 60k buffed to 43k on my wiz), Siegebreaker on Act 3 Inferno was still completely doable. Jumping on the crit% / crit dmg bandwagon and it's expensive!

The one thing I do like is the lowered damage to melee types. Grouping is now completely viable in the upper Acts of Inferno. I want to say that it's almost a little too easy. My barbarian buddy at 1200 armor and 850-950 resists was able to facetank almost everything. The only thing that really killed him was standing in a molten pool while being walled in. I was surprised that he could stand toe to toe with big hitters like Siegebreaker and various Opressor packs. So now, instead of running through inferno solo and kiting packs into far corners that I am incapable of taking down, the two of us can pretty much take anything. Made it to Silver Spire last night before he had to log. Hopefully we can get him his first Diablo Inferno kill tonight.

Just picked the game up last night again.. its been awhile since ive played my 60 over a month... havent gotten passed act 1 in inferno and was getting annoyed by how buying items was necessary blah blah blah.

But after last night I am officially back on the diablo 3 gravy train. the item lvl 63 drops truly make it worthwhile. I found a 1200 dps sword last night not even half way through the act. This is amazing. Drops feel a lot less shitty. Granted Im still getting lvl 55 shit too but atleast I can actually progress forward..

it seems that multiplayer inferno is a lot more playable now too.. was playing with a witchdoctor buddy and my wizard and packs seemed to go down a lot easier then before. We are still dying of course :p especially in the spider den haahhah but not nearly as insane.

Well cost of game and cost of electricity is about all you can to contribute into the cost....Because your going to have internet regardless of having diablo 3. But if you wanted to get that in depth with the cost you'd have to factor in opportunity cost associated with time spent......

I have made 45 and spent 40 so I am up 5. I have plenty of moneys so I'd rather have gear than cash any day I have pretty much only sold duplicates.

I bet I could cash out all my gear right now at over 100 bucks. So 250 hours of gameplay for 100 bucks puts me at 40 cents an hour........Getting Paper.

It's only been out one month and one week.

Apparently he only played a few days and then put it down. :p

What my friends that pressured me into buying the game did. 60 the day after launch and quit within the first week. They went to playing LOL and BF3. Guilt tripped one into playing last night since he made me buy it. He was having fun until he repaired.

No I wasn't completely serious. I guess just ribbin ya and trying to overcome some mid day boredom at the office. I realize that it's a game that is played for entertainment and not a small business that has to reconcile an expense sheet.

Consider yourself lucky! I don't expect you to get anything like that again any time soon. I've yet to find anything that passes 1100 dps for 2H and 900 dps for 1H.

i put in over 70 hours, i find nothing but garbage.

best item i found was a 640dps weapon for a lowbie requirement of level 52.

i find nothing i can use or two handers that noone wants for 900 dps.

Im still rocking out a f'n 740 dps 1 hand sword for my wizard cuz i cant afford anything better and dont find garbage. im beginning to hate this game with a passion, i played last night for a few hours Act 2 Inferno, almost completed all of act 2. I died enough times to spend about 100K on repairs, out of all the Shit items i found i was able to sell enough to break even of 100K. im not getting ahead im just spinning my wheels.

70 hours after the new patch?...

I was exaggerating for emphasis. :D It has been a couple weeks though. didn't take long to get to 60 and I was annoyed that I was buying my gear not finding it!

you should get some exercise and come back :)

Too bad. Sounds like you and your friends met the dark side of random world drops. I've spent less than 100 hours and found 3 legendaries.

My friends found a few. Nothing useable, but that is the norm I hear. I was the only one to miss out, not that it matters much. I am just an achievement whore hehe

Did you not play D2 at all?:confused: If you didn't then I'd understand your complaints and mark them as valid.

If you did...uniques didn't drop like candy in D2 like some people are making it sound....and I had a nearly maxed MF sorc.....Or if you played ladder and didn't play retard OP builds (cough hammerdin cough) then you were in the same position you are in A1 inferno. You'd have to grind grind grind to get gear to progress in hell.

No, not at all. First and last Diablo here. Was the scale of the game about the same? I find D3 quite small and too repetitious to continue the grind.

My biggest complaint about D3 is that it pales in comparison to the random map generation and map size of D2. Diablo 2 was great for random map generation, it truly felt like you were experiencing new levels each time you entered a map. With the few persistent locations in Diablo 3, it feels much more grindy to me.

F This Game.

i have 71 hours on my wizard, 16 hours on my Barbarian. Not 1 legendary.

Since 1.03 I've backed off from Inferno act 1 to Hell act 4 with my melee build wizard. Keeps me from going broke due to too many deaths and ultimately probably have the same chance of finding decent gear since I move through more packs. My DPS took a hit, down to 7.5k, but I've got my resists in the 600 range. Main weapon is certainly crap, but going to need to grind for a while to get one with high int, crit %, and LPH. Almost tempted to grab a staff with arcane on crit, allow me to spam a few more star pact meteors. Those things are my bread and butter.

lol u are dead on the load outs are very few. its like the same two or three tops load outs every time.

I found 2 low level legendary's within my first 15 hours, and nothing since. One was the broken crown, the other was some monk fist that was lost when I was hacked.

My advice is to farm act 1 inferno as much as you can right now.

Because the Item drops are off the hook for how easy it is. Based on what I got out of just 4 runs I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they cut back on the Item drops. I seriously got a ton of gear including 200+ vitality Blackthorn pants.

All for so very little effort and with much enjoyment. Had a group of 4 destroying it 2 barbs 1 monk and myself a wizard. I think we had only 2 deaths from Arcane Lasers + Poison+ Incinerate + Jailer + Ice balls.

I think we just kept getting unlucky on our damn affixes ! fucking vortex arcane frozen and mortar ....

No way, health link, vampiric, arcane, walling, desecrator...

Now that Repair cost are so high........I'd just walk/run away and never look back. Its hard to do but sometimes its just not worth it.

Hit a batch of Ghost with Chain link, Fast, Jailer, Waller......probably the hardest none soul lasher that I have come across....I was unable to kill them.

fast is a pretty annoying one dude. it makes it really hard to deal dmg cause im just running

Why does it matter? The legendaries right now are absolutely terrible, except maybe some of the high level stuff. Would getting a really terrible legendary drop make you feel better? I've seen 3 drop, all three were trash.

As a wizard I have big problems with Jailer, Waller, Teleport affixes since it makes kiting harder.

I had a pack last night that was Jailer / Frozen / Fire Chains / Teleport. FML.

At least I made a few skill changes and I'm up to 17K dps, with the same 33khp and 400 resists.

What an awful combination...

i go glass cannon and it works way better for me especially solo. reduced cost arcane orbs means i can kill most of a pack before they even reach me.

27k dps 25k hp i dont know what my resists are though hahaha

Blue post:

so... i'm smashing pots and other smashables...and my gear is losing durability.... why is this happening? seems unnecessary.
We agree, and we're already looking into reducing the durability hit players take from normal wear-and-tear. This way, players who never die aren't getting hit with a giant repair fee every 3-4 hours.

IIRC a lot of them went to the team that developed Torchlight and is working on Torchlight II. Got my preorder in! For $20 it'll be worth it - Torchlight was fun!

Everyone claimed to have come from Blizzard and worked on the old Blizzard games at some point. I think there was a period of time where every new RPG claimed they had people who worked on Diablo 2. It's like if the Janitor from Blizzard North left and started working (as the janitor) for another studio, they suddenly now have the brilliance of the team who designed Diablo 2.

I also find this largely irrelevant. Most people will praise D2 with fond memories. If D2 were released today it really wouldn't hold. I really couldn't care less where the original D2 devs are working. I think a lot of what's wrong with D3 is because it holds onto antiquated design concepts from D2 that just don't work in a modern game anymore. There's a reason modern RPG's / MMO's strayed away from D2's randomized item grind model.

All of the subsequent Diablo clones from D2 have been relatively small scale in comparison and are completely different beasts. D3 wants to recreate the same scale as D2 but doesn't want to change antiquated game philosophy from 12 years ago.

Diablo 3 is very much like Diablo 2 in terms of actual game content / scale (minus Act 5 in D2 which came with an expansion).

This is my current build:

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#blXRSO!YWf!bbabZc

I might try an Arcane Slow build, but any build which doesn't involve kiting as a wizard, I'm not sure how that would be viable, unless you have extremely high DPS.

I couldn't agree more. The same goes with many other things too. People like to idolize the few names they might recognize as some sort of genius (or idiot). Reality is, these few people don't make or break the games they've been involved in. It's a popular tactic to reel people into kickstarter projects too. There are still many unsung veterans at Blizzard who don't get much credit with their current projects (especially in SC2).
