BioShock Infinite

Pretty short game.

The presentation was fantastic. But the dumbed down gameplay kinda sucked.

BS1 a better game. But Infinite is still a worthy game.

What is "dumbed down" about it? I'm curious.

I'm pretty close to the end I think. I was going to finish it tonight, but I kept crashing during the same battle, so I'll just finish tomorrow.

you know what? fuck you bioshock, it looks retarded, skipping it, i'll rather get shot. wait, better yet, i'll rather get drunk! uuuuunnngh!!!

yeah is good to be me :p

see ya! :D

Make sure you have no video capture software running, launches fine then.

If you want to stream/record it still:

Close capture app, run as admin, close steam, run as admin, launch game, launch app

If you are not running any capture app, test newest beta drivers then newest non-beta.

I have no programs running in the background. Using nvidias newest drivers which is supposed to fix Bioshock and it still crashes. It seems to be random. I can play for hours with no issues and sometimes it'll crash after 15min. The worst part is the stupid autosave, it's twice now where it crashes and I have to replay the same 10-15min section.

So it appears they must have rolled out a small fix or something...I got a notice that my Early Bird (pre-order of the Season Pass) items were available (I actually got a notice saying I had the golden gun skins when I first started up the game, but nothing about the other stuff). Some people were saying they weren't getting the Early Bird items at all.

The items are pretty cool...full set of "gear" (4 items), including some damage buffs and a 75% larger clip size for guns thing. You also get 5 tonics or whatever they're called that allow you to upgrade your health, shield, or salts size.

Took me like 10.

That's not too bad. I can see myself easily replaying this game, and that's rare for me.

I have a 560ti 448 and haven't had a crash yet. I've played around 7 hours. 4 with older drivers and 3 with the latest. I'm not overclocking my CPU or videocard, though.

Does Infinite have the same mouse problems that the original Bioshock had? As in, piss-poor-excuse-for-a-PC-title mouse movement?

Funny thing about this game is that my GPU fan goes about 50-75% speed while playing, but if I minimize it, it ramps up to 100%.

My only gripe was the sensitivity slider. On the lowest "tick", it was too slow for me, but the next tick up was too fast. I had to create my own mouse profile for it.

But that is, of course, purely subjective.

Only 2 weapons

No different ammo types.

No health / eve packs ( replaced with use on pickup + recharge shield )

No Hacking

The list goes on.

Its still a solid game. But BS1 is much better imo.

Well crap I just pulled the trigger on it. If I knew all of this I would have skipped it until a STEAM sale.

same with me...the default sensitivity was way too fast...one setting below (the lowest setting) was actually fine for me...in the beginning I thought it might be a tick too slow but it ended up fine...weird that 1 setting up caused a huge difference in speed...that might be a bug

I tried the poolsize and memory margin tweak but it still stutters alot when it loads stuff up into vram. I tried a tweak I saw over on the Steam forums and it works a whole lot better. No more stuttering here.
Go to the file XEngine.cfg (Documents\My Games\BioShock Infinite\XGame\Config)
change "bUseBackgroundLevelStreaming=true" to "bUseBackgroundLevelStreaming=false"

You guys realize you can grab hold of the slider for mouse sensitivity in the settings and move it left and right? THe first tick was too slow for me too. And the next tick was too fast, so I just moved the slider in between the first and second ticks. Perfect.

Thanks for the tip. The poolsize actually helped me but it does still stutter a bit. I'll try this as well.

And actually, the Early Bird gear is kinda cheap. Like you get something that makes you have a high chance (I'm guessing like 75%+) to electrocute someone on a melee hit. Which is basically a one-hit kill, nearly every time. Kinda makes it too easy. I'm playing on Hard as well and it seems easy.

Here's the details on it: http://www.ign.com/wikis/bioshock-infinite/Early_Bird_Special_Pack

Basically a bunch of super powerful stuff right off the bat.

Gosh this game is beautiful. It's just so slightly short of locked-in 60 fps with a 680 though. Anyone running with 680 SLI? I'm debating whether or not to get a 2nd one.

I never notice any considerable slowdown on my single 680 at max settings and 1920x1080. I wouldn't buy another card just for this game.

No hacking? What do you expect to hack in a game set in 1912, a potato? :)

Seems like glass half empty kind of thinking, no offense.

It was replaced by hitting E on a lockpick. It's dumbed down gameplay. Sad fact.

Regardless tho. It is a great game. The presentation sells it alone.

I don't have the Early Bird Gear and I found something similar early on in the game just by exploring...something like 75% fire damage with a melee hit...just further evidence why most pre-order bonus items suck and are not worth it

Yeah it's @ 60fps vsync'ed about 98% of the time. Another 680 is probably overkill but I'm using adaptive vsync and just hate screen tearing.

FXAA is forced in the control panel and on in the game. What is weird is that this applies the FXAA effect twice (I tested to make sure), but it doesn't seem any blurrier than one FXAA pass. Edges are super smooth, looks as good as downsampling to me.

I'm getting 89fps average on the UltraDX11_DOF (option 2) benchmark setting @ 1920x1080, 83.4fps @ 1920x1200. If anyone has run it on that setting with 680 SLI I'd like to know what you got, thanks.

Removing boring parts does not mean a game is "dumbed down".

Yeah it's @ 60fps vsync'ed about 98% of the time. I have shadows set to very high and post processing @ normal instead of alternate, everything else on ultra. I don;t think you need another card just for this game. Mine averages 70 -80 fps most of the time. What you need is to wait for a patch to fix some of this shitty ass level streaming/loading that makes the game randomly stutter. You can be just walking around and all of sudden frames drop by half. What's wierd is if you don't move the mouse and stay locked at that point of view, the frames eventually recover and make their way back to normal. I see this constantly using fraps. It's some really bad level streaming /coding.

It's not that it sucks, it's just too good...lol. Basically it's better versions of stuff you can get in the game, but you can only get the Early Bird stuff with the pack. You also get pistol and machine gun damage upgrades. Overall cool but not totally necessary.

it's true, why are people so afraid to criticise?

broken vigor upgrades, you might be scavenging for an hour to afford aids/boosters that just mysteriously dissapear from all machines, only to come back much later with an avalanch of new ones after you've spent all your money on weapons instead.

completely fucked balance, this is why hard seems like ezmode until you start getting 2shot later on, they hold your hand for about half the game and then just toss you off a cliff. also 99% of the enemies in this game are a laughable nuisance at worst. then a wild fire/handyman appears! where did all my money go?

contrived and pointless weapon/ammo limits to force you into relying on hopelessly overpowered vigor, and a never ending scavenge to upgrade them into usable sidearms.

broken checkpoint system, that operates on arbitrary waypoints instead of properly scripted events.

still only 2 weapons at a time, what is this duke nukem?

if you focus purely on vigor, you will literally be a god smiting all in your path! screw item drops, everything is a container! people just throw perfectly good money, food, and ammunition in the trash, but only a few at a time! so play Booker as a professional hobo and you will be rich all game, also because Liz stops you every 5 minutes to produce free money. who comes up with this shit?

this is not subjective at all. they did it wrong, period. there's a proper sensitivity range for the mouse, which is outside of the thumbstick range. they could have set the slider thresholds to accomodate both, but again nobody gives a shit. the way they did it, you only have 2 ticks of choice over what should be at least half of the entire scale. how to fix so that you have control over both upper and lower end sensitivity range:

XUserOptions.ini,

[XCore.XUserOptionsManager]
MinMouseLookSensitivity=0.050000
MaxMouseLookSensitivity=0.500000

My biggest gripe with this game: The "shooter feel" is very crude and card board like. With regular guns and rifles it is terribly console' ish. There are no ballistics and bullet velocity is around the speed of light. Still I enjoy the game. This could have been a masterpiece, but it is not. Instead it's just a great game.

the people that keep complaining about the amount of guns and the shooting aspects etc don't really understand what BioShock is supposed to represent...the original game and Infinite are about the story-- story-first and story-last...everything else works as a service to it...this is one of the only franchises where it's all about story-driven gameplay

if all you care about is shooting, stabbing and kill count then this is not the game for you...soak in the environment, listen to every conversation, look at every poster, pay attention to the details...that is what BioShock is all about...if you get bored by information, reading and history then go play Serious Sam for your gaming fix...BioShock is for the Atypical gamer, not the masses
