BioShock Infinite

it's not just $$ that you need to save carefully but even those lockpicks are hard to find to open up all the safes and secret rooms...some safes require 5 lockpicks...even exploring every inch of the map makes completing everything almost impossible...is there a free roam option after you complete the game?

I open all safes (and what a let down, in terms of loot, what are they thinking not putting some infusions in there) and still have plenty of lock picks left. Usually carry around 20 at any time. They are pretty abundant if you look around.

must involve a lot of backtracking because I explore a lot and don't seem to find enough lockpicks in the current level...maybe hoarding them and backtracking is better but I don't want the game to lock me out of a level

I agree as far as the loot in the safes...only thing I've found in there is $$...the secret rooms are much better

It may depend how far you are in the game. I reached the point of the "why to play at Hard difficulty video" posted earlier in the thread. I don't backtrack at all, but make sure to check everywhere. Don't forget to check the metal buckets. Also roof tops.

I'm up to the Hall of Heroes

You didn't backtrack to open the first chest? I did...and frankly that part was annoying. I hate, hate HATE backtracking in games...and you had to go back pretty damn far, too.

I didn't. Once I got the key and realized how far back that was, I said screw it.

I am married. I went from playing WoW every second of everyday to playing some games only a couple hours a day.

The woman is not allowed to complain.

the first chest did not require lockpicks...all you needed was a key which wasn't too hard to find...I opened up the first 2 lockpick chests but #3 is where I'm up to...I also need to find some Vox Populi code book which I'm looking for

No, I did not have to. And it might not have been the first because I got that key, and it was not usable for the first safe I saw. But man was I disappointed when I spend 5 picks on 215 Eagles.

Haha... well, that's still a big difference!

I went from single life, being able to play about 4 hours a night, to married life and get to play maybe an hour a day, 4 or 5 times a week.

I'm still playing through Far Cry 3 but as soon as I'm done Bioshock is my next purchase. Looking forward to it!

if your balls are in her purse lol

This. I'm BASICALLY married (not official), and we both game a lot.

No, she's not resembling a horse either (inb4). Far from it.

See, good things CAN happen if the balls stay out of the purse.

There are always exceptions... helps if she's into gaming, haha, no doubt!

I'm about to hit "Shantytown." I continue to have serious problems pulling myself away from this game during my free time.

Yeah I wasn't talking about lockpicks, just that particular chest at first. I haven't gotten all that far in the game yet so I haven't experienced the lockpick stuff yet.

Well, you can't or else you lose all your game progress... :p

Shantytown?...that's in Tomb Raider...is there a Shantytown level in BioShock too?

Yes there is. I thought of TR too when I saw it when I was playing BSI lol

so the question becomes which Shantytown level is better? :D ...I thought the Tomb Raider one was really well done...Infinite has a lot to live up to

Anyone having issues with alt+tabbing out of the game? Was kind of annoyed that I played for 30 minutes and lost my progress as I couldn't re-maximize...

yea after the 3rd safe or so, as long as you always keep an eye out or at least take the ones Liz notices, you are going to end up with a net positive in picks well beyond what you need. also by then you should realise, there really is no choice in whether or not you want to backtrack, it's all incredibly linear. even for the optional areas with the cipher codes, they will always be sending you back in that general direction for some reason or another no matter what. so I wouldn't worry about finding safes you can't unlock, by the second time you pass it you'll always have the picks.

I was a hoarder all game and spent nothing on ammo unless it was an absolute emergency, and still found $200 silvers or so to be well worth the trouble of opening every safe. you will want the money when those upgrades start getting expensive, knowing you won't be able to afford them all.

I finally fixed the crashing problem. Rolled back to the .14 NVIDIA drivers. Be .22's which are suppose to be optimized for this game were making it crash.

what a game!...what a great story!...I'm totally hooked...I'm to Finktown (I think that's the name)...the voice acting is top notch (especially with Dewitt and Elizabeth)...she could have been an annoying tag-along all game but she's very interesting...love the tears and the sky lines and the vigors and pretty much everything!...almost every vigor is fun to use and it's hard choosing 1...right now I'm mainly using Shock Jockey and upgraded Devil's Kiss...but the Bronco one was also a lot of fun!

only major negative to the game is the way Elizabeth constantly throws you med kits, salts and $$...she's literally making the challenge almost non-existent...yes I still die but I wish she would relax with helping you out so much...almost every time I use a vending machine she throws me $$ afterwards

it was asked earlier by someone but I didn't see an answer...what effect do your choices have in the game?...there are quite a few instances where you have to choose between 2 items or let a character live or die etc and I'm curious if it has any real consequences

Just encountered a game critical bug; indefinite loading when I exit the clocktower to enter The Plaza of Zeal.

going to try to verify game cache to see if that does the trick.

I wouldn't know since I haven't picked it up yet, but would 1999 mode address that?

Maybe I need to let it sink in more, but the story is a serious fail. And the throwback to the first game is completely unnecessary.

currently playing in 'Hard' mode and technically you don't have to except her offers of $$, med kits etc but I still wish she would stay a little more in the background during a fight and not be heard from as much

Ugh started crashing on me again last night. Turned off afterburner completely(no overclock). I did get new ram recently, but I have not had any problems on anything else. Running prime full stress test now...really starting to frustrate me. :(

It's not your system it's the game. Mine crashes as well, and I would bet it is a pretty common with others in this thread.

I've made it the point where I just got shock jockey, no crashes in game, but it tends to hang when I close out of the game.

My performance issues were the laptop deciding to stay in power saver mode instead of max performance (even though I had it set to max performance, as that same problem hit me while playing Black Mesa). Back to playing it in 1080P with everything at least on High, which is where I should have been.

I finished the game last night. Overall, I liked the game a lot. There are some nice touches with the ending I quite liked. I won't go as far as saying my mind was blown since I didn't find the ending that surprising, but I did like how it unfolded.

I may not play it through again though. I did with the original Bioshock since how you treated the little sisters changed the ending, but there is no similar choice in this game.

I loved a lot of the easy to miss aspects like the music and why it is there. I also loved the whole hall of heroes portion.

I never had any technical problems. I installed the new NVidia drivers prior to playing and ran the game at ultra settings at 2560x1440. Zero crashes or lag.
