BioShock Infinite

I'm not sure what you mean, but those are not racist undertones--it's flat-out racism, which is one of the main themes of the game. It's not like Ken Levine hates Irish people and just decided to make a game to spread that message.

lol yea seriously. that is the point of the game.

Oh, and the screenshot button is indeed a little busted...if you press it once you get nothing. If you hold it for a few, it will start taking rapid shots until it feels like stopping...usually about 20 shots or so.

That's strange, for me it works fine. I just tap it once and it takes the screen.

Are you sure you don't have the button conflicting with something else? (IE fraps or such).

This game looks so good it doesn't even look like a videogame. You got Art Novea influnces along with this Lendecker (a famous painter) kinda like Rockwell clean cut look in the game the gameplay is the same old bioshock I just rescued Elizabeth she is sweeeeeeeeeeettttttt.
Still has those big Anime influced type of eyes. I thought the sky hook would give me Vertigo (which I wanted) but it doesn't really the last game to give me vertigo is Jumping flash 1 and 2 on the PS1.

Right now it's more like a Movie then a game but it moves the pace I don't recommend running through the game though.

I don't think it's an "Anime" look/influence rather it's made to be more like a classic Disney look, for example:

Anybody else having this problem? I just tried playing again going from ultra to medium where my FPS was like 250 in the elevator and I watched it drop to 25fps and then freeze. Seriously wtf is going on with this game...

it's typical ue3 texture streaming problems, always by the same devs that want you to download 3 dvds worth of high res textures, but not even bother to set proper engine parameters to run them on modern gpus. how to fix this might be different for every setup, like if running on ultra, how much vram, etc., go to the [texturestreaming] section of xengine.ini and mess with cache sizes until it comes out smooth.

for me with a 1gb 560ti on ultra for example, I just increased poolsize to 1024, then memorymargin to 128 (aim for like 10 - 15% of poolsize) and it made a world of a difference. always pinned at refresh now, and no more freezing/hanging at 5 fps every time they feel like loading another chunk of map.

here is better explanation of what those engine params do:

Alternate is DX11 deferred lighting/shading, so it is better visual quality than 'standard'

I love the tooltip for "standard" too, "as intended by the glorious visionaries who wanted everything to be completely washed out so you can't see shit", makes me want to punch the iq dev responsible for this in the nuts. why couldn't they just label it as low/high quality like it should be? standard is just unplayable imo, can't even see where I'm going with all that noise in my face.

as people mentioned earlier the art style is impressive but the graphics overall are hit and miss...game is not Metro 2033 or Crysis 3 but the atmosphere more then makes up for it...visually the game has that cartoony look like Team Fortress or Dishonored...lots of bad textures and bloom seems to blur things a bit too much but gameplay trumps gorgeous visuals any day in my book and Infinite is delivering that in spades...the game really immerses you in the world, people and story which is exactly what the original BioShock did...

Looks like its using current gen texture sizes unlike bio 2 thank god. Did they get the widescreen implementation right this time (hor +)? I remember it being wonky with the earlier titles.

5 hours in and I feel they did a good job at managing the same quality of story telling and immersion as it's predecessors.

I have some squabbles with the overrall difficulty of this game though. The game is too easy so far, even in 1999 mode. This game hasn't thrown me in a tight corridor like in 1 & 2 where battles required quick reactions for use of plasmid and gun-play. I find myself being able to hang back, pop off the dumb AI from afar and if they get close, just use the OP bucking bronco vigor and gun em down while they're up in the air. I know they make these games open to different types of playstyles, but this one lacks the intensity that 1 & 2 had which kinda forced you to make quick plasmid+gunplay options and if you failed you had to reload a save, rethink your strategy. This game makes it easy to where if the game ups the ante, you can easily find cover and just cheese it out. Not to mention Elizabeth is there giving you supplies which makes things much more easy. I remember in 1 & 2 I had some fights where it came down to me just having to wrench enemies with tommy guns, now I can just find cover and wait for her to refill me up.

I finished the game. Wow! That might be one of the best games I have ever had the pleasure of playing. Well done Irrational Games, well done.

what's up with the Save system?...seems like the game doesn't autosave enough and I find myself replaying large sections after reloading the game...if you die and immediately come back to life in those vita chambers then you don't lose any progress but if you exit the game then the next time you restart, it can potentially push you back a long ways...even after reaching an objective the game doesn't always autosave...I'm playing on Hard difficulty so I'm not sure if the wacky autosaves are because of that

No, the autosaves seems unfortunately sparse. I was playing yesterday night and had to go to bed, but I had to push forward for like 15 minutes to get it to save somewhere. It's really unfortunate. It's very hard for me to accept games that can't at least save the current state when you quit. I don't require every entity to be saved exactly as is, just save my general progress/state and world position.

the game doesn't even seem to autosave after you've reached an objective which is something I've never seen before...I was playing an early level and I had reached an objective so I exited because I was tired thinking that it would save my progress...next time I loaded up the game it took me back to the beginning of the level

Gotta go to work, so I can't continue playing...but this game is beginning to make me think I need to rethink my gaming PC. I'd like to think that I shouldn't be having the trouble I am, but I can't hit shit in the initial carnival with the rifle or the shotgun...and I do not have that problem in any other game (Portal 2, TF2, Quake 3, Deus Ex H:R, Skyrim). I'm not sure if it's something to do with the mouse (acceleration turned off), or the video (essentially a 6770m on the Catalyse 13.3 beta, and lowering the resolution hasn't helped)...but I'd hate to spend $800 or so to build up a new machine just for some configuration issues.

Plus, having to wait beyond the weekend to build it rather than play it (again?) would suck.

Anyone else out there with a 6770m having issues, or having their mouse feel very jerky?

I only have 5h play time, but no instability so far. Haven't really seen anyone else talking about it either. My impression is that this game is quite polished.

Gotta love it when you look down and not only do you have no legs, but no reflection in water.

Apparently Brooker is a levitating vampire.

I'm picking on the game right now. Never been a fan of the Bioshock games, but I like Infinite more than the other 2.

Everyone do this now, made a world of difference, thanks for sharing.

Arrive in strange, floating city

PROMPTLY EAT PINEAPPLE OUT OF GARBAGE CAN

being in the shoes of booker dewitt is just drowning me in immersion

Your comments make my day. :D

Still having issues with the benchmark, even after trying this... have to press a button to get it to come out of the sub 20 fps funk

It's probably the biggest weakness of this otherwise stellar game.

Which drivers are you using? I am on the 13.3 beta 3 and I have SMAA ultra injected as well as Dynamic Vsync through RadeonPro and it is smooth as butter at highest possible settings ( FXAA off of course because I am using SMAA).

I agree.
I've played about 2 hours altogether, and I find waiting for a damn autosave takes away from the game.

I had to quit also to go to bed and I slogged ahead just to find a place to save.....couldn't really enjoy what I was doing.

Sort of like driving through the Grand Canyon concerned about only finding a restroom because you have to pee.

The game is otherwise really, really good.:D

At least he has a voice. I'm still amazed that Gordon Freeman was able to become a physicist, being an invisible mute and all.

I agree. I just think games like this, and yes, Half-Life need stronger characters. Infinite tries to make up for this lackness in character depth with Elizabeth and its part of the reason it is a better game than the first and second, but still you don't control her.

For example, even if you hate Heavy Rain for its gameplay mechanics, you have to admit it has stronger characters. And its part of what makes a great game, just like a great book or movie.

Not running FRAPS, but I think TrackIR uses it to re-center. However, the TrackIR device isn't even activated so it still doesn't make much sense. I guess I can try closing the software entirely and see what happens.

Yeah it is really infuriating. I got to the point where you first see the statue and your objective updates, but apparently the closest save point before that is immediately after you get out of the "church" chamber thing with all the water. If you take your time and look around at all the shops and whatnot that can be like a half hour of lost time. Unacceptable.

If you choose to replay a mission from the main menu do you keep all your gear and power ups?

I did feel that was lame as well. Especially when everything and everyone else has a reflection except you. Semi-immersion breaking.

Speaking of, what's with the Steam achievements popping up every 3 seconds? It's like a bunch of them are "pick up a coin" or "kill a guy with a pistol" or "kill a guy with a shotgun" or whatever, so you're constantly being spammed with them in the corner. Can you turn off those notifications? It's taking me out of the game experience.

(I know it sounds like I'm ripping on this game hard, but I really do enjoy it immensely, just some of these problems are really irritating for what is otherwise a flawless game experience)

You should be able to turn off the steam overlay and they won't appear.

Or even look in the Steam settings to see if you can turn off achievement notifications.

im glad other people think the autosave thing is gimp.

where does it show that its saving?

Top right-hand corner "updating profile" or somthing like that.

While I like that it's unobtrusive, it's a little too unobtrusive. After playing for an hour or so I never once saw it other than when I went into a new area and I was looking for it specifically.

How's the interaction with Elizabeth? After watching a panel at PAX East about her, I'm quite curious to see if people are enthusiastic about her as much as a crowd full of BioShock fans.

I have to wait until July before I play this unfortunately (unless I get lucky).

is anyone noticing added input lag with vsync and/or triple buffering enabled?

I love Elizabeth. She's one of the few companion characters in a game that I really like.
