Star Wars: Battlefront Reboot

Really? I find the AT-ST ridiculous once I got used to the angle the gun fired. The grenade launcher and missile have really low cooldowns. The grenades are great for wiping out groups hiding behind stuff. The missiles can even go after air targets. I find I can usually rack up around 10-15 kills before I go down. I feel like most of my kills come from the grenades though.

I did play the previous Battlefront games and this is pretty much what I expected although it's been forever since I played them. And I agree the spawn system is stupid. It's chaotic, on Rebels it seems no matter where I spawn after the start, I'm surrounded.

All in all, I'm having fun with the game, but I don't feel like I'm having $60 worth of fun. The other problem I have is 2 games I want come out Nov 10th so not sure if there will be room for this one for a while.

Yeah I've seen people tear it up with one. I just don't get why every other weapon and the ATAt doesn't have the drop when you fire, but that does. I just have to get used to it.

I think i only played like 4 rounds (xb1). pretty fun tho. I noticed that there were pople who was ranked like around in their 20s already. Really? commit that much time in a beta? I started making it my mission to kill them. And a classic moment was when i met Vader and Luke. Instant deaths for me the first times.

Afterwards, i killed vader with a grenade at his feet. And i sniped Luke from across the map. But i do like that they are not totally invincible. But it is a treat to see them hopping around the map occasionally.
I noticed that Luke was hopping everywhere, compared to Vader nonchalantly moving without any haste. Does each master has different personalities/attributes?

Yeah Vader and Luke have different abilities. Luke has a speed burst, force push, and heavy attack(?). Vader is slower, but can sort of float when he jumps, has choke, light sabre throw, and heavy attack(?). I forget the 3rd on each.

someone on another forum mentioned the possibility of them unlocking the Endor Drop Zone map before the beta is over...that would be nice

Thats the map I'm looking forward to, enough to get the game from GMG for $45 just to play it and drool all over it. For DICE to open it before end of beta would require it already being in the game files though, based on the 11GB download size of the current game makes it unlikely. People get their hopes up about an end of beta map unlock because DICE did it once for BF3 (Caspian Border). Didn't happen in BF4 or Hardline however.

Thats the map I'm looking forward to, but them opening it for beta is pure speculation. People always hope DICE will open up another map before end of beta because they did it one time for BF3 (Caspian Border). If the Endor map isn't in the game files (which it doesn't appear to be) then it probably won't happen.

I can only imagine the eye candy on Endor with the foliage, trees etc...DICE did a nice job with the varying landscapes of the maps- forest, snow, rocky, volcano etc...each map has a totally distinctive look

Remember this only goes to level 5 right now. I took me about an hour to max level. The full game will have more everything.

So if the gameplay isn't for you, that likely won't change much. I do suggest you play for at least until you get the jet pack. :) Also try to use the stationary turrets if possible. A lot of people neglect them for god knows what reason.

Items/maps/ect. will expand.

This game is a blast to play with your kids.

Agreed.

Where the hell do you get Vader/Luke?

And the AT AT....my buddy kept finding the AT AT emblem thing...All I was finding was the AT ST

Keep looking. You'll see them eventually. Besides the ATAT, the hero upgrades are the most rare to find, imo. I always find the ATAT emblem at the beginning portion of the final stretch of the map. (right after the last hill in the middle, look to your left)

I said this about the earlier Alpha. This is a dumbed down console game made for casual FPS players who are Star Wars fans. This is not a game for FPS veterans who are also SW fans.

This is the worst FPS Dice has ever made, mechanically.

I've been a FPS vet for 15yrs now since Delta Force 2 was released. I think this game has very good entertainment value as do my friends that have all been playing FPS's as long as I have, sure it's no BF4 and probably will never be, BUT why does it need to be? Entertainment value is what matters and this is packed full of it!

Playing "Drop Zone" with a group of friends in TS and having a good partner to spawn on is a blast. We dominated last night.

They got a lot of technical things right. Plays well, not laggy, a bit of sound issues. Overall, runs well. However, the game is dead boring. I joined the walker map my first round and just destroyed people. That gun has no recoil or drop. Just like having cheats enabled. ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Game has no soul imo. Maybe there is a game mode that does. Not so far though. BF4 is much more engaging. Plus, fuck this matchmaking bullshit and no squads. Maybe that is how the original game was but it is a terrible idea when you have team oriented gameplay.

Squad is where I am going. Much more like BF2s successor than anything else has been.

I played from 8:30pm - 4:30am last night, would have stayed on longer, but I had work at 6:30am this morning. This is how addicting the game was for me!

90% of the time was spent playing "Drop Zone". I was not bored at all with this game mode. The more I played the better I got and more entertained I was. Taking 1st place 15 rounds in a row with most kills/plants/defends might be amplifying the fun factor a little for me :p

For the sound issues, mine were resolved when I changed it from Headphones to Wide,

DLT-19
Nade
Shield
Launch Pack
SharpShooter Trait

= Beast Mode!

Once I had the above setup was getting 4/1 ratios the rest of the night.

These setting provide amazing results with excellent image quality...

Bro please stick to the "GAME SUX" narrative here. j/k

Seriously though this was my experience as well. Teamspeak with a few buds and partner-spawn, FTW. Everyone getting mad that this isn't Battlefield 5, or CS:GO, or <insert preconceived personal hierarchy of FPS needs the game doesn't conform to>, or that they aren't instantly dominating with the (weak) starter guns within 10 minutes, is missing out. Yes it's a casualized shooter, yes fun-for-all-ages was a design goal, but there is a way to enjoy this game even for jaded Battlefield burnouts - you just have to find it, which it sounds like you did. Loadout is certainly key and a big part of it. If you're not on TS you need to run with other team members - the minimap is there for a reason. If you lonewolf, you'll suffer. Follow someone, they die, you shoot the guy that killed them.

Playing Drop Zone I was thinking initially "I'm supposed to be hating this, why am I not hating this". Can't wait to play the mode on Endor.

I'm a long time competitive FPS player and I'm having a ton of fun lol. Especially with the game graphics and sound maxed out running at 144 FPS, may be one of the best looking/sounding games ever.

I went into the game with no real knowledge of the game mode and ended up legitimately hating it. *shrug*

I agree...I thought Walker Assault was going to be my favorite mode but Drop Zone is the one I'm spending the most time with...very addicting...Walker Assault is nice but it's crazy unbalanced at the moment and doesn't give the same rush as Drop Zone...I've definitely learned the nuances of the map and play-style but it still comes down to who gets the drop on who first...it's kinda ridiculous though how any laser weapon can strike you down from across the map

as far as performance, it eats up System RAM...it's using up over 5GB for me while 'only' using up 2.6GB VRAM...I have everything maxed (Ultra) with VSync enabled (1920 x 1200)...fps never goes below 60...I can't play this in 1st person mode, has to be 3rd person...also increased the mouse sensitivity and FOV to 90 horizontal (game uses vertical FOV)

does the Sharpshooter trait give you increased accuracy or anything or is it just based on less cooldown the more headshots you get...I prefer the thermal detonator grenades, jump pack and shield generator although I like using the Cycler Rifle too

Played about 4 hours of the game last night. While I did have fun, there is a multitude of problems with this game that bored the hell out of me.

-The shooting mechanics are terrible, and the guns have no satisfaction to them as you are shooting people. Just hold the crosshair in the area of the target and hold the mouse button down. Some of the guns are incredibly overpowered.

-The hero controls are terrible and they are dead within 30 seconds of showing up. It's actually quite funny when they spawn, all of a sudden you see every single laser within a mile radius light the area up. Watching Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker fly around the map is just stupid. They should have left this mechanic out of the game.

-Flight controls are terrible. There was no want for me to jump into a X-Wing or Tie Fighter at all. They are also incredibly slow and do not respond well to input, maybe I was expecting something similar to the flight combat that was in the X-Wing series, but still, it's like they didn't even try.

-Powerups system is atrocious and completely ruins the immersion of the fights. In order to fly a x-wing or tie fighter I have to pick up a powerup then hold a button down until I'm all of a sudden in the air in a fighter. What a lazy ass system. I want to power up the engines and take off from the ground or from a hanger, not this automatic holy crap I'm magically in the air in a Tie Fighter BS.

-Hoth is completely broken. Near impossible to win as Rebels.

-No squads, server browser, ping information...? Really?

This game feels incomplete on all levels and I can't imagine myself playing it for very long at all in it's current form. What a let down.

Welcome to Battlefront :) Enjoy!

As a rebel we won a Hoth match once and the difference was that the nodes were constantly contested and Y-wings were frequently being called in and then when it was vulnerable everybody and their dog pretty much stopped shooting the imperials and focused fire with everything on the AT-AT.

I also noticed that the snowspeeder has a harpoon option when a certain distance to the AT-AT is reached.

Oh and does anybody know if its possible to fly between the legs of the AT-AT? I keep crashing because I suck with mouse flying, I might have to try a gamepad or look into a joystick or something.

some of the complaints sound like people are just set in their ways and don't want to give the game a chance because it's not exactly like Battlefield in every single way and it's beneath you to like it...it's a simple game with no real depth but it's still fun

I'm still not sure if I'll purchase for $60...Combat feels incredibly smooth and polished and graphics/sound are best in class...its a fun game but its giving me Titanfall vibes in terms of skill cap and generally just getting stale quickly...a free beta weekend won't burn you out because you know you have a limited time but after a few weeks it might...the game does seem to have a lot of modes not yet shown off so maybe there's enough variety to do it...if Fallout 4 and the Bloodborne DLC weren't coming out at the same time it would be an easier decision

I went into the game with no real knowledge of the game mode and ended up legitimately hating it. *shrug*

Same. Most of my friends thought it was meh too. I don't see this selling well on PC considering how dumbed-down the shooting mechanics are.

Been winning a lot of Hoth battles at Rebels today. I think everyone finally realized to hop into turrets and shoot the ATAT. Also I did some good dmg in an Xwing. I also hang into useful specials if I know it's about to get bombed. Flight controls are clunky at first but you can get used to them... A controller is a must.

Yea, im about to plug in my joystick.

I only had 90 minutes to play last night but have a similar impression as you. Played on Teamspeak with my good gaming bud and we had a blast. The first 30 minutes are a bit rough as you figure out mechanics, UI and unlock some cards, but it just gets better after that. I spent the last hour playing Walker Assault mostly with a Cycler/Thermal/Ion blaster load-out. The Rebels won twice and Imperial the rest of the matches, so our server was at least somewhat balanced.

One of the Rebel victories was due to an ace pilot who had something like 50:2 KD ratio just dominating the AT's and ground forces. I tried flying a few times but was horrible at it, I've never been a good BF pilot other than Bad Company 2 where I was decent in the transport heli.

I agree that turrets and AT-AT feel overpowered, you just destroy everything in the 60 seconds you get in the AT-AT. Not sure I agree with being able to jump in enemy turrets, it's very powerful.

One problem I have is the on-screen UI, there isn't enough feedback to understand where you are being attacked from and where enemies are (even compared to BF hardcore). The Cycler rifle needs brighter tracer rounds or something.

Performance is really really good. At 1920x1200@60fps it defaulted to all settings High and FXAA high on my single GTX 670. Perfoverlay.drawfps 1 showed FPS from low 50's to 80's most of the time, maybe the occasional dip below 50. Even maxing it on Ultra the FPS stayed over 40 most of the time which shocked me. I literally just bought a used 970 yesterday but didn't have time to install it yet. At least I know I'll be able to play it maxed hahah.

Overall my first impressions are it's fun for what it is. I've never played a Battlefront game before but I enjoy it enough that I'll likely buy it. Might try to wait for Christmas/New Years on the hope they drop the price if initial uptake is lower than expectations. They did that with BF4 from what I remember.

Any1 else sli break when they installed the new drivers optimized for battlefront? Played with the previous drivers and SLI scaling worked great. New drivers screwed SLI up bad. 7% on second card

Just played Hoth for the first time...wow, this is BAD. Like, it looks amazing, the lasers flying everywhere is just like the movie, but the gameplay itself is terrible. If you are the Rebels then you might as well not even play. When you are seeing scores like 50-0 for the assholes in the AT-ATs and everyone on your team is like 10-30, you know something is fucked. Half the time you die within 5 seconds of spawn because you were put in a field with no cover about 300 feet from the AT-AT.

The way specials/vehicles are handled you will hardly ever get to play them at all. Most of the time they seem to spawn about 200m away and there's no chance of you getting it before someone else.

I saw a lot of people being banned, and I'm pretty sure there's some sort of invulnerability exploit or something as numerous times I saw a guy getting blasted by 2+ people and taking zero damage. No shields or anything either.

i think its getting better once everyone levels up a bit. rocket launchers on everyone on the rebel side is probably a must to stand a chance on that map.

may be one of the best looking/sounding games ever.

The audio in this game is absolutely fantastic, and really draws you in. The Battlefield games have always had fantastic audio, but it's something else to listen to and hear those iconic/classic Star Wars sounds.

This is why I hate modern MP. This leveling crap. It creates unbalanced mechanics on which nobody starts on equal footing.

Very much this. The game is gorgeous, but what really blew my mind was the audio. It's incredible.

I agree that it should have either been cut from the game or implemented differently...seeing Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett etc sounds cool in theory but it just seems odd to see them in this game bouncing around for a few seconds...Luke's face also should have been better rendered using Mark Hamill's face from the actual movies...he looks strange for some reason

I've seen quite a few fairfight bans already.
This is both good news and bad news.
Good news...Fairfight anti-cheat is working.
Bad news...there are day 1 hax in the fucking beta which means there will be day 1 hax on release. The cheaters have always been ahead of the game programmers. Everyone has SCREAMED this game needs a server browser with rented servers and active admins to help mitigate this issue. This will kill the game on PC side quicker than anything. Apparently no one learned from the industry wide lesson from COD:MW2 regarding the lack of "dedicated servers" and how it had just as much to do with latency issues as it did with the inability to deal with cheaters.

EA/DICE knows this too. They've been making MP games for 15 years. I find it hard to believe they would simply go full retard all of a sudden. Is it possible Disney fucked this one with some stupid contractual requirement?

I'm surprised there's so many people cheating so soon...I see that "FairFight has banned..." message a lot during my sessions...what's the point of playing just to cheat?...I wouldn't get any satisfaction at all from that...maybe for a few days it would be OK to test out but it would get old quick

well they got a taste of the game with the alpha so they likely had a code base to start working on cheats, as well as its the same engine as bf4 day one cheats seems like a sure thing.

Most of the people spawning into the hero characters aren't using their abilities correctly. They don't automatically block laser blasts with their lightsabers, you have to right click for that. They also seem over eager to jump out to the front of the pack when their black clothing and glowing lightsaber is quite literally the easiest thing to see on a snowy battlefield. Their biggest weakness is exposure from the sides and back.

Last night, I ran into quite a few talented people playing as Vader. They would hang back behind the storm troopers for some cover and to make sure their sides and back weren't exposed. They then waited for the troopers to attack and draw a pack of people in, then force jumped into the enemy pack in the next trench. They would quickly take out half of them while the storm troopers took the other half.
