XFX vs. EVGA

I have exclusively bought EVGA brand cards for a while and couldn't have been happier. There customer service is excellent. Although I have also had to RMA every EVGA card I have had for some reason. XFX also has a great customer service and also has the double lifetime warranty which helps if you ever want to sell the card down the line. I purchased my 4890 from XFX because of this. You can't really go wrong with either brand but if FC2 and COD5 were games that you might have bought anyway then definitely go with the XFX.

From my knowledge and what I have raed and heard.....EVGA has great customer support and a lifetime warranty. XFX has a double llifetime warrenty...what that means is you have a lifetime warranty, and when you sell your card, if you choose to do so, the person you sell it to will also have a lifetime warranty. Why I personally do not by XFX, is because I have HEARD they have poor customer service....at least not even close to EVGA's. So if you have any issues, EVGA will handle it great and in a very timely manner...not to mention the forums on EVGA have almost any answer to any question you might have.

With all that said though, if you have no problems with either cards...then the XFX might be a better choice do to getting the 2 free games.

I also forgot to mention though that EVGA has the step-up program, so if you decide to upgrade within three months, you can, and only pay the difference in the upgrade.

Its a tough choice, especially since XFX offers the 2 free games. I would consider where you are ordering from, and there RMA policy. I ordered the EVGA components of my system, solely on thier customer support ratings and the fact that I can step up within 3 months incase something comes along within that time frame that I want...

Let me know if you have any questions about anything I have said.

I know the OP didn't mention if he plans to OC or install aftermarket cooling but both EVGA and XFX will not void your warranty due to that. Although I must say EVGA will RMA a card for just about any reason, not user inflicted (personal experience) if something goes wrong or there is something you aren't satisfied with about it (fan troubles, coil whine)

XFX because it is the GTX 260 with 216 processing cores while that EVGA is the older 192.

Same price after MIR as well and you get free games! The free shipping on XFX vs shipping on EVGA is a price difference of $2~3.

Double lifetime warranty as everyone else said.

i've had 10+ EVGA cards in the last 8 years and they were all great. I'm on my second XFX card now and it's fine. I'd say both companies are top notch and you can't go wrong with either.

Get the XFX because it's the 216 stream processor version. The EVGA is the older 192 version.

Can't go wrong with either, for the reasons already stated. And It's also nice that XFX now sells cards from both sides of the fence, I wish EVGA would do that as well (but I think they're too tied in with NVIDIA for that to happen). More choices for the consumer, while keeping the best parts of the CS of the respective companies is always good.

I'd also go for the XFX in this case though, for the reasons already noted, especially if you want either/both of the games - win-win.

XFX... Double Life-time Warranty, customer service on par with EVGA, 2 free games, and 216 version -- it's a no brainer.

...ya like the others have said...go with the XFX dude..i didnt realize the EVGA card was the older version, not the 216 version. I guess I am wrong or jsut read the wrong reviews about XFX....good luck, let us know what you decide to go with and your experience with XFX if you haev any so guys like me have more knowledge

I haven't bought a EVGA card yet, but I did have a XFX 7900 GTX card that I was the 2nd owner of that artifacted on me. I sent it in for RMA and in 2 weeks XFX sent me a brand new XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition 512mb card as a replacement. I really like their cards......:D

I have owned several og both brands of cards and never had to do a RMA. I do however give +1 to EVGA for their step up program. Also BFG is great in my experience, had one card die and the RMA was super fast and hassle free, they gave me a better card in return and a free t-shirt.

fwiw, i bought a xfx gtx285 this january and have had no problems whatsoever.

I have been buying XFX for 4 years now, only one problem card that they promptly replaced.

I don't think any certain brand will have more DOA's or anything than another.

Customer service can play a good role in your decision on what to buy though. Truth is, I've never ever had to use any customer service at all for any of my graphics cards in the past. So, take a good look at the included fluff that comes with the card, like a free game or anything. It might be worth it for you too.

You have to do the core 216 vs the older card. Only if they were the same for the same price would Evga get the preference. These are pretty much reference cards anyway.

That 2nd one you listed (XFX) comes with FC2 and COD5, is a 216 core, and doesn't cost that much more...I'd go with that one.

XFX's customer service rocks faces. Had a 6600GT that was over a year old, didn't register it, the rep allowed us to register it then and there when the card went bad and had a new 6600GT in my hands less than 2 weeks later.

Under normal circumstances, you need to have your card registered within 30 days of purchasing it for the double life-time warranty.

Yep definitely go with the XFX as it's the much better value. As far as EVGA vs XFX, they are both excellent brands that both have lifetime warranties.

when did this happened?

I bought two XFX GTX260s and both came with only FC2, despite them both being advertised as having both COD5 and FC2. Just throwing that out there.

My XFX card is in for RMA and I am hating their tech support so far.

Sorry to hear that you seem to be having some issues with our technical support, if you PM me your ticket and RMA numbers ill personally check up on your RMA and see if theres anything I can do to help.

I've been really lucky with computer hardware forever, but go figure, I had an eVGA 8800gts and an XFX 8800gs each fail on me (in different systems) within about a week of eachother. So I got to test out XFX and eVGA customer service side by side. Had new copies of both cards within 7 days of shipping my RMA cards, so no complaints about the service. XFX sent me the same card (just new), eVGA sent me a better card because the 8800gts 640 was no longer made.

eVGAs website and online registration was easier to use and I got updates via e-mail on the RMA status including tracking numbers. XFX sent e-mails as well, but the e-mail only says your ticket has been updated, so you have to log in to see what the update was, which was just slightly annoying - seems the few lines of text in the ticket could have just as easily been included in the e-mail. (sorry XFXSupport rep, I mean this to be constructive :p) But in the end, both companies did great for my RMAs, no real complaints and I was really impressed with the turn-around time. I consider both those brands as top tier as far as service goes - I do like the XFX double lifetime warranty, since it seems to add to the resale value a little bit.

I actually ordered the XFX GTX260 216 core today because of (a) good past service and (b) Love free games. ;)

My XFX cards OC better then my EVGA. I've had to RMA the EVGA, but not either of the XFX.

The XFX that you are looking at is 216 stream processors, the EVGA is only 192.

If you go with the EVGA you may want to pick up this one:

EVGA 896-P3-1255-AR

It's cheaper all around, is 55nm and has 216 stream processors.

XFX anyday! eVGA is nice, but they are a MUCH smaller company.

EDIT: I have had SO MUCH trouble with evga trying to RMA an old 939 motherboard (nf41). I have been on the phone with them on 3 separate occasions and STILL haven't had the RMA approved despite having the original invoice and proof of ownership. was this close (||) to throwing it in the trash.

That's what I like to see on here. Keep up the good job of providing help and assistance to your customers. :)

As for the original question, I'd go with XFX. Got nothing against eVGA or other companies though.

Like to read of customer's experiences and stories they may share of companies, like Mackowitz's response for example. :p

I used to buy EVGA, but I could not have had a better experience with a recent XFX RMA, that my next card no doubt will be XFX.
Customer Service was awesome

I was so mad when I found out XFX was making ATi cards (not really mad though :) )! I only had my Visiontek 4870x2 for a couple of months! If I had known, I totally would have held out and bought XFX. Though I have a feeling some of these ATi companies will be modifying their warranties pretty soon because of XFX... they'll be like "shit, where did our sales go?". As much as this economy sucks, it is a buyers market. Can't argue with that!

Two questions, was there a separate "NVidia Gift CD" in your cart when you bought them? That's CoD5, when I added mine to my cart and bought it that CD was automatically added (costing $50 and knocking $50 off the cost of the card). If you didn't have it in the cart or removed it that's why you didn't get it. Either way, you can probably call Newegg and ask about it and I'm pretty darn sure they'll send you your copy as it's an on-going promo.

I got FC2 inside the XFX box, as you did (XFX promo) but I think CoD5 is more of a Newegg-side offer/promo. Just call 'em tho, Newegg's great about this kinda stuff.

They must have. I bought two cards about a month apart from each other, and neither one had COD5.

Did you ask Newegg about it? I bought mine last week and it came with CoD5 in the main box for my Newegg order (and FC2 inside the actual XFX box)... When I ordered mine they weren't even advertising that it came with both games as the red blurb that states that on the product page had been repaced by a temporary 10% off promo code.

Weird. I'll complain at Newegg then. Thanks for the tip. I'm always for getting a free game.. haha.

+1 for Eveey,

However, if I'm not mistaken XFX carries a transferable warranty which is really nice..

Yup, it is a double lifetime warranty. That way the OG owner is covered and when or/if they get rid of it the second person is also covered.
