Watch Dogs

And how many times have we heard that? And how many of those times did it turn out to be completely and utterly false? This is Ubisoft, the one anti-PC gamer company to rule them all.

that is the same video confirmed to be running on pc, and the controller shapes doesnt mean anything those are just textures the devs are using for all we know they could be playing it on pc with an xbox 360 controller and the playstation buttons symbols would still pop up. they could be using a mouse and keyboard and the playstation symbols would still pop up it all depends on what texture they are using in the version of the game they are displaying.

the xbox version would have the proper button shapes and letters and the pc version would have the propper letter key popups.

you cant judge most games quality from highly compressed video.

Except that we've seen the other video, where things look much much better..........

For a game that seems to be about being a good guy... you're not that good of a guy.

Cool I possibly saved a life and chased down a dude with a gun cause I'm that bad ass / good guy-esque. Good thing I wrecked AND shot multiple police cars just for the hell of it, while doing the previously mentioned, possibly severely injuring or killing them in the process before escaping on the roof of a fucking train with my magic cellphone.

Are there details out about the story?

I hope you're wrong... to me the setting seems perfect for being an agent of a 'big brother' government, spying on people and 'correcting' those who aren't falling in line.

Haha sock was just stating the cliche that most games follow these days. Destroy half a block, but you save one guy's cup of coffee from spilling, etc.

Well that's good. Have there been any details released though?

I hope it's not just another "you're the goodguy. go around the town and save people" game.

It's a sandbox game, I imagine you're as good or as bad as you want to be. As far as the main storyline goes though, who knows.

I'm sure that's what it will be in the end, but told using a unique storytelling method...using electronics to monitor/hack anyone and everyone but I'm sure the plot will be to stop some evil bad guy...running around and eavesdropping/hacking without any purpose would not make sense

Yea, that's not necessarily bad--i mean, i enjoyed DX1 and HR.

I think i've just been reading too many dystopian novels lately lol

That was cool, but all they did was overlay footage we've already seen with a commentary and some on-screen text. Would love to see some actually new footage.

ME TOO.

I'm really looking forward to this game. Problem is, it's such a huge idea.. and i already know what i want from them...

Just setting myself up for disappointment = /

I agree. It's about time we see it.

Be a good guy and fight crime / save woman's life. Kill numerous, responding police officers minutes later.

Well ok.

Yeap lol.

After how many GTA's, Assassin's Creeds, Sabateurs, I'm getting kinda tired of getting chased by the police.

They've clearly already decided that the police are going to work like all the games prior, but it'd be sweet if you were trying to stop rebel-type forces on behalf of your runaway government who had brainwashed you, and had the police at your back.

Kinda could follow a Deus Ex storyline.

It would be badass if like partway through the game it went more Deus Ex-y and you had to fight cyborgs and robots and shit.

I'm guessing the world they've created isn't nearly that futuristic, though.

It's still quite futuristic though. I mean, are you hacking people's implanted computer chips to find out about them? Are you querying a database which contains all this information and they're using retina scanning or facial recognition?

And the way they have cameras everywhere watching your every move... sorta like big brother would.

I'm not sure that it's implanted chips, but in any case most of the technology for that stuff already exists, it's just taken to the extreme in this world. I'd like to see a bit more futuristic stuff, otherwise it's just going to be a GTA clone.

so if the cars dont float its a gta clone?

sleeping dogs was fucking amazing. and i wouldnt call that a gta clone, despite their similarities.

After watching the newer trailer, I am already predicting the "Twist."
!BLADE RUNNER SPOILERS! don't read below if you never saw the movie (which you should, because it's fucking amazing).

Aiden is not a human, he's like a "Blade Runner." A type of AI/machine/cyborg perhaps (Think Blade runner/Robocop) built by the "other" company watching him. Allowing him to be their first "test" subject to see how he does in the real world without knowing what he really is and how he interacts/helps people.

Sleeping Dogs was good, yeah. Honestly, though, other than the melee combat it was totally a GTA clone. Totally. It had a good story and overall it was a good game, but let's not fool ourselves.

Why does everyone always want the game to twist like that. That's what I hated about the original Far Cry when the aliens/cyborgs whatever showed up and I promptly uninstalled the game.

First boss fight in Deus Ex where I was forced to use a gun, I uninstalled the game and haven't played it since. Up to that point I was excited to do everything perfectly and on the hardest difficulty level. Bad game design decisions can ruin an otherwise great game. I hope Watch Dogs sticks with a theme and expounds upon it as the story and game unfolds.

What do you mean "everyone always"? Most games are purely about killing people, which is clearly in response to most customer's wishes.

I, for one, love shooting robots, demons, monsters, etc. Decent sci-fi FPS like that is released twice in a decade at most.

You're served well all the time. No one is allowed to have fun, only you.

Yeah there are definitely not a metric shit ton of sci-fi games on the market, oh wait...

Decent Sci fi FPS from the last 10 years? There's quite a few sci fi games, but not many are both decent and FPS.. :p

Really? Besides COD and BF3 i can't think of a single fps besides those two that doesn't have an element of sci-fi to it.

I actually enjoyed that about Far Cry... *shrug*

Monotony kills games IMO.

Please name some...and not like "it has magic so it's sci-fi". Like actual sci-fi.

DX:HR is one of the only ones I can really think of. There's been that E.Y.E. game but I'm not sure how good it really was.

List 10 sci fi games of the last 10 years that were both decent and FPS?

It was terrible. It had promise but the absolutely horrible dialog (basically Dragon Age levels of blah blah blah blah blah just with even less meaning, poorly translated, there might have been a plot but I missed it) the lack of personality etc. etc. kind of killed it. Though apparently it's had a pile of patches so maaay have improved.

So it should be easy pick your 10?

Bioshock 1-3
Crysis 1-3
STALKER games
Metro 2033
Planetside 2
Borderlands 1-2
Natural Selection 2
Hard Reset
Deus: Ex HR
E.Y.E.

That's 10 if you don't count sequels, 16 if you do.

You can argue that they're not the kind of sci-fi you want/like, but those are all sci-fi.

Bioshock 2 sucked, and we just established that E.Y.E. sucked. Still, decent list.

And like you said, personally I don't consider zombies/mutants to really be sci-fi but that's subjective. DX:HR is a good example of what I consider a good sci-fi FPS.

What sucks and doesn't suck is subjective, someone could easily come along and claim every one of those games sucks. I didn't play Bioshock 2 so I can't comment on it, I was just listing it to include it.

I didn't really include the games with zombies/mutants *because* of the zombies/mutants, I included them because of where the zombies/mutants came from. If they're futuristicy and have sci-fi elements(like STALKER's "radiation is magic") I included them. I even forgot about Fallout 3/NV, and purposely didn't include Syndicate.

I know what you're saying, but I don't think the answer to your desire to shoot robots/aliens is to stuff it into another game halfway through. I'd much rather someone make a game like that designed for it from the ground up.

Bioshock 1-3 (hit and miss)
Crysis 1-3 (booooriiiing)
STALKER games (very hit and miss :p)
Metro 2033
Planetside 2
Borderlands 1-2
Natural Selection 2 (not decent)
Hard Reset (was ok, borderline :p)
Deus: Ex HR (is 3rd person/fps hybrid :p)
E.Y.E. (not decent)

I did specify "decent" :p

WHY YOU SPOIL MOVIE?!

Fair enough. I guess my initial point was that I hope there is more to Watch Dogs than we are seeing. The graphics are great, the concept is great, but if it's just running around doing random shit like GTA or Infamous then it's not going to hold my attention. Even with the hacking element, so far all we've seen is chasing down a guy, shooting and cars. None of which look particularly futuristic other than the "hacking" which really just seems to be an expansion on already-existing technology.
