Warhammer Online Thread!

I getting the same FPS the people with core2s are getting with the rig in my sig at 1680x1050 8xCSAA 16xAF.

Don't forget to clear your log files and set them to read-only, this will prevent the game from stuttering when it goes to record every single freaking event that happens while you play.

How do I go about doing this? Is the "logging" something that is necessary? I assume it doesn't matter if you turn it off.

today's war patch actually fixes this. constant log writing is turned off by default now.

A quad cpu like a 9450 w/ large cache would help right? Chews up code pretty good. Even if all cores are not used.

Yeah, thats what Im running, also clocked it from 2.66 to 3.6Ghz so they're pretty nippy as well once overclocked.

A few weeks after launch and still loving it even though I was in beta for several months... got a 21 Swordmaster, 18 White Lion, and 35 Engineer so far :D. I'm sure it's been mentioned but Mythic announced having sold/had activated 750k accounts already in under a month, not bad at all :).

How do you like your Level 21 SwordMaster ? I have a Level 9 right now and like him, just sucks no healing, but I can handle my own pretty well:) :)
Do you use 2h or 1h+shield ??

Just bought the game last night. I installed it and patched it but by the time I had done all that it was time for bed. I am going to try it out tonight and I'm trying to decide which class/career to go with. I am considering either an archmage for the heals/dps aspect or a bright wizard. Any suggestions? I can't decide because I like having dual roles (dealing damage but also being able to heal) but I'm also intrigued by a very-high DPS caster. I'm leaning towards the bright wizzard but is it super easy to get killed in battle?

i havent played in a while, but ive got a level 8 disciple of khaine and marauder.

they're pretty sweet, but ive kind of lost a bit of interest in the game, but im going to try and get back into it till D3 comes out or starcraft 2 and fallout 3.

Level 30 now, started doing some basic T4 stuff, the keeps battles have sligth back and forth to them in T4 on our server, theres a whole bunch of people on the dest side who cheated using an exp exploit to get to 40 really fast and they're running around T4 taking keeps etc, luckily so far the reaction from the goon squad and others guilds have pushed them back.

T4 is very impressive, Praag the town between the alliance and chaos in T4 is massive and packed with stuff to do and places to fight, I can't wait until T4 is packed with people, the battles are going to be brilliant, we've already taken a few forts in T4, using about 60-80 order to zerg the keep lords, it's truly mental.

Arch mages can put up some amazing healing numbers and still do respectable dps and are a pita to kill. BW can do so amazing damage but they die pretty damn fast. Play smart and tactical and you'll enjoy the class much more. Currently at low levels it seems the entire Tier 1 Empire scenario are Bright Wizards and Witch Hunters, Tier 2 they drop off a bit and at Tier 3 I hardly ever see another Bright Wizard.

Im playing an archmage and with the tactics you can really make your class quite different, theres 2 main tactics to use, one does 35% more healing but 20% less damage and the other does 25% more damage but 20% less healing, or something along those lines.

If you use other tactics to augment your character, like +willpower or +crits you can build up several builds of tactics which allow quite reasonable DPS or lots healing. I tend to use healing for Scenarios and RvR where i keep everyone else alive to do the damage, and use the DPS for PvE so I can power through it. Most of the DPS however is in the form of DOTs.

I did try a bright wizard to about level 12 in the beta and I quite liked it, they're both incredibly squishy and will die fast, the archmage has more survivability in PvE since you can pop heals and go for longer, but the archmage will never match the sheer damage output of the brightwizard, if the BW is focused on 1 target they're dead pretty quickly.

So both equally a squishy but the archmage is more diverse and really designed for healing rather than fighting, the heals aren't good/fast enough to keep yourself alive against DPS in PvP fights, if a DPS pops up next to you, you're in trouble, you can go on fighting a tank for ages though since their damage output is closer to your healing rate. So survivability for both classes is quite low in PvP, but if you get good, stay at the back and dont draw too much attention to yourself you'll do well.

I use 1h+shield... the whole point of a tank-archetype is to tank :). The shield is really what makes the Swordmaster able to take extra punishment as it gives around an 18% chance to completely negate spells or physical attacks for me. I specced for Aethyric Armor for an extra 5% disrupt chance and extra armor, and can take quite a beating in melee + a good bit from casters. Using the Ensorcelled Agony tactic alongside the toughness one, I'm doing decent damage as well in RVR. I use the sword proc spell that gives a 25% chance to create an absorption shield around you on all attacks, works very well. PVE is a breeze with him due to how durable he is. I created him mainly because I'm likely using him as a farming helper (he's on a 3rd account) along with my main account and my mother's at 40, but I'm enjoying him quite a bit as it turns out.

Join Monolith server, we have the best Order side :) And a killer Guild :) :)

My name is Darthdingo, High Elf SwordMaster

The game is brilliant. I'm currently a rank 14 rune priest having a great time running about throwing HoTs like a madman in RvR:D. The RvR (PvP) action is intense and highly enjoyable because the class balancing is great, and you get XP scaled by how well your team performs. You also loot items and gold from players in RvR just like you'd loot items from mobs in PvE.

I'd recommend any WoW player to switch immediately. Even those who are mainly attracted to PvE, you're probably like that because the idea of WoW's boring ass PvP has clouded your mind. It's likely WARs RvR design will suck you in completely, as PvP now fully develops your character. It all just makes way more sense this way.

Rank 29.5/RR29 Archmage reporting in!

Trying to enjoy the most out of T3 scenarios kicking ass now :p

This game is amazing.

My R13/RR13 BW is also coming along quite nicely..

Lvl 23.75 Witch Hunter from Monolith here. So far it's a pretty solid game with the exception of some clipping issues while taking keeps. The RvR is a lot of fun up in T3 with all the different scenarios available.

Hey Zorachus what guild are you in now? Sry you got booted from abh but the leader "cleans house" waaay too often.

I have a Black Orc, Witch Hunter, and a Shaman in T2 zones. I can't decide what to play

Ive been alting it up on both an Order and Destro server...Gorfang and Iron Rock I respectively I do believe get em mixed up sometimes...

I like most of the classes I've tried, but I find that people who play healers 9/10 times really don't play them as healers. And without a solid healing backbone you're whole offense crumbles pretty fast, as well as your defense since if they repeatedly won't heal me at all I don't bother helping them when the guys scramble to em. Cuz they are typically pretty spot on about healing themselves when that happens.

Not unusual for me to top the healing charts when I play a healer, I even topped the healing charts at level 1 with my zealot over a level 10 archmage. And if you've played a healer, you'll realize just how pathetic that is.

Haven't found any guilds that do anything regularly, I think most people just talk me into joining so they can level their guild off my character and could really care less otherwise.

Kinda got a lot of dudes stuck in T2 atm and it's getting pretty tedious to have to burn through every races tier 2 just to have quests to keep me busy while I wait for the scenario queue...and then not get healed heh.

I've seen what a few people who know how to play can turn the tide, so I really can't imagine an entire guild who knows what to do coming to a keep. It's tough just going up against a couple of decent players.

This RvR stuff sounds fun, like taking control of cities and stuff, but I wonder how it's going to play out on servers that have a faction imbalance. On a server where Destruction has more people, what happens if Destruction takes an Order capital city and Order can't take it back just because of the imbalance?

I was really psyched about War but I haven't even logged in since Age of Chivalry mod for hl2 came out =( This makes me very sad.

Mythic monitors population imbalances and works to fix them. They did it in daoc through an additional headstart and they currently are doing it in this game by giving xp/rp bonuses (20% atm) for limited periods of time to certain servers where population is low for a given side.

Agreed on this. I frequently top the healing chart, generally at least top 3. It bugs me when another healer is right next to me while I'm getting whaled upon and he/she doesn't heal me. It's just like, "WTF you roll a healer for?! If you want to do damage, roll a friggin sorc"

Some of the healers are really really bad. I would get out of a battle with 100 health and wait about 20 seconds for a heal, and I would call for one in chat, and NEVER get one and die about 30 seconds later.

This usually happens bc EVERYONE is calling for heals!!! Do yourself a favor, get used to dying, find a friend to heal you/your group, or roll a damn healer!!!

no people need to realize that healers do one thing and one thing only, heals the group! Its not a hard concept.

My Archmage is level 23 now. Man this class is OP as hell. I think the nerf bat may be coming soon. I get top 5 damage every single match.

We have 4 instant cast DoTs and one channeling DoT. One is a life tap, one reduces your targets healing by 50%. I think Archmages have the highest “on the move” dps of any class in the game. And face it, your target isn’t going to stand still while you nuke them. When they see they’re being attacked they’re going to run. The problem is by the time they notice they’re being attacked they will already have 4 DoTs on them, and by then it’s game over...

After playing a Squig Herder, White Lion and Witch Elf all to level 15+ I have no idea why these classes even exist... Not only do Archmages out dps them in almost every match, they can also heal, cure ailments, rez, buff, etc... Honestly it feels like I’m playing in God Mode compared to the other classes.

Also I wanted to talk about something that is really pissing me off in scenarios. It seems that almost every Bright Wizard (or whatever destruction version is called) will disband from the group and go get tons of solo kills. What happens is because they have massive AE damage they then get a HUGE majority of the experience.

Now I’m not talking a moderate bonus like 20%. Last night there was a level 28 BW in Tor Anroc. He had the highest damage (although not THAT high). However since he played solo he had 30,000 exp for the match. While the average for the winning team was around 10~12,000. I’m sorry but that’s just fucking insane. They need to fix this SOON. This sorry SOB would get zero exp if he didn’t depend on others healing/supporting him, yet he’s sucking up all the exp for himself. What a load of crap. They either need to enforce grouping, or make it so everyone on the same team shares the exp with each kill no matter which person or group did the most damage.

Or I was the only one calling for heals and I have a friend who is a healer and he wasn't logged on.

I'm playing a shaman now and find I can benefit from the same thing. Drop scenario party, join an empty group, and I get points (and loot) based on my actions only, instead of being averaged out among my group. Heal exclusively and I get twice the RP of the next teammate, DPS exclusively and I get a ton of xp. Doing this, I can even lose a match but get similar xp to the winning team.

I doubt they will 'fix' this, because theres really nothing wrong here to fix. You get what you earn, and no one can leach off you. If you bust your ass healing everyone, or take out half the enemy single-handedly, you deserve the reward. Same concept behind PQ contribution and rewards, without the random roll at the end.

I dont think a lot of players realize whats going on with healers. First off, we have the status of everyone in the warband in front of us, all ticking down to 0 health during heavy combat. Choices have to be made. A lot of the common scenarios have a flag that damages the carrier (Morkains, Tor Anroc, etc), that person gets healing priority. Then theres tanks and dps up front to heal. Healing yourself and other support, ressing, etc. Finally theres topping off the suicidal mage who isnt dumping their combustion properly and will probably be dead before your heal is done casting.

Theres not much AP to go around, I'm always AP limited when healing. When I notice a 'problem player' - someone who dies too much, yells "Heal!", or just feeds points to the other team, I let them make the long run back from respawn.

Thats if I'm grouped with guildies or feeling charitable. I can always spec my damage tree, swap to the 25% damage boost/-20% heal tactic, and dot and nuke instead. Its a perfectly viable playstyle and has very high (personal) survivability compared to the higher dps but far less survivable caster classes. And I can always fall back to help heal if things get heated.

Unless I’m mistaken, experience is earned by damage done and then is divided by the whole group. I’ll try to give a simple example involving a tank, a healer and a wizard.

So let’s say the tank does his job and puts on a shield, protecting the “squishies” and soaking up huge amounts of damage. The healer does his job and buffs, removes ailments and heals everyone who needs healing (with the occasional DoT or debuff thrown in). Then we have the wizard, who only has one job and that is to do crazy damage.

Now let’s say they all work together and “earn” a kill that’s worth 2000 exp. In this case the tank will have done 1000 damage total. The healer will have done 500 damage. And the wizard will have done 5,000 damage. Since the tank and healer are grouped they split the exp. They both get 230 exp each. The wizard however, since he was solo, gets 1540 exp. In what world do you live in that you would consider this fair? How could you possibly rationalize the situation so that the wizard is not leeching off the tank and healer?

Without the tank no one would have gotten protected. The wizard would die in five seconds and the healer might be able to run away. Zero exp for everyone. Without the healer, no one would have been healed. The wizard would die in four seconds. The tank would probably die too with very low chance of escaping. Zero exp for everyone. Without the wizard, it would be a stalemate. Not enough dps to get a kill, but enough protection/healing to stay alive. Again, zero exp for everyone.

I think it’s safe to say that the tank, healer and wizard are all needed equally (give or take). Yet you somehow think the wizard deserves a 650% exp bonus...

Ok after almost a month now of playing. My BIGGEST GRIPE.

3 bright wizards + 1 badass healer = pwned. Scenarios done GG. Seriously root effects need to be gone upon damage. Even though with 3 BW's on you life expectancy drops to 5 sedons anyway:rolleyes:

Same deal with 3 sorcs instead... :(. You're gonna hate once you get into ones with Electromagnet or the magus equivalent (65 foot aoe that pulls everyone into a tight spot and roots for 1 second, then snares as it wears off). Magus or Engineer casts that, hits AOE root, a sorc or bright wizard aoe's everyone dead in a few seconds, good game :(. I hope they remove the ability, and that's being said as an Engineer myself  !

That example doesnt really account for the entire system.

A random full group will get kills that dont involve a solo player, from heals or killing. The solo player isnt always top damage, and wont live as long. Then you have renown calculations, which a solo dps player wont get much of (while a solo healer will get a ton).

Sometimes 2+ full groups are involved, some groups getting less xp than others, making it really complicated. In a game yesterday, our guild group ended about 5k xp behind another full group. The reason, 1 max-level marauder that had most of the kills and damage. He was a beast. Our group was low level for the scenario and we definitely didnt contribute as much despite playing hard, so the reward was fair. Carry the weight, get the rewards.

no people need to realize that healers do one thing and one thing only, heals the group! Its not a hard concept.

Sorry but you're wrong. I've played a healer to level 30 and it's a good idea to switch between damage and healing, primarily because build up force/tranquility by healing and casting damage spells, once you've healed up to max force (5) any attack you do will be much more powerful, and the same with attacks, they build up tranquility to a max of 5 and at that point instant cast heals heal lots more, and heals with cast times cast much quicker, so you can fire off a big heal instantly instead of with a 3s delay.

Using quiet times to do damage instead of heal is a smart move anyway, but is good for building tanquility to do a large heal should somoene get hit hard, or land in some lava or something.

Similarly if you heal a bunch and you reach max force, you can unleash a powerful attack on somoene who is low on health, and instead of them being able to retreat they get nuked fast.

The system was designed to make healers better with mixing in some attacks, and clearly you dont understand the mechanics, so maybe you should play as a healer and learn how to play before to have a go at others.

There are plenty of bad healers out there but not all times when you die is avoidable, theres also a lot of stupid players like squishys who run way too far inside the enemy crowd which will do more dmg faster than you can heal them, so it's not always the healers fault, it takes teamwork on both parts.

Is there a trial for this game? I don't want to spend $50 to see if I like it or not..

Not right now, no.
