Any patches to fix the stuttering yet? If not, any dev updates on the stuttering issues? Just want to check in each week and hope for the best.

so yeah these crashes to desktop sure decide to happen at bad times :(

If you hare having stuttering problems, try the following (I take no credit, this was taken from another forum):

1. Uninstall your current nVidia display drivers.

2. Install the newest drivers from nVidia's official site (178.13).

3. Go into your nVidia control panel. Make sure you're using the "advanced view."

4. Manage 3D Settings --> Program Settings (it's a tab) --> Add --> Navigate to the WAR.exe file and choose it

5. Turn up AF to 16X, turn up AA to whatever your video card can usually handle.

If you're using a LCD screen, turn vsync on and turn triple buffering on (if you're using a CRT, turn both of these off).

6. Keep the texture filtering quality setting at performance.

Note: If you see some shimmering in-game and you don't like it, turn the texture filtering quality setting to high quality.

7. Set Negative LOD Bias to clamp.

8. Go into your in-game settings.

For moderate/low end GPU, click on balanced. Uncheck lightmaps and specular lighting.

For high end GPU's, keep everything on high quality, but turn off lightmaps and specular lighting, and keep shadows on balanced.

Also download this mod:
http://war.curse.com/downloads/war-addons/details/buffthrottle.aspx

Following these steps should eliminate stuttering issues that are game related. My guild has tested this method on various types of computers and it has worked for all my guildies.

Also, if you are still playing using the beta client install, reinstall the game using the retail disks.

can someone help me out a bit?

What are the "tiers"? I always see people talking about tier 1, 2 and 3, but never know what they are talking about.

Also, I know what rvr stands for (realm vs realm), but what's the difference between PVP and RVR?

FRAPS is a program which will show you your FPS no matter what game you are playing. It also has other nifty features, like the ability to take screenshots, capture movies, benchmark etc etc.
http://www.fraps.com/

Its a very useful little program, I have it running 24/7 on my PC, so I don't need to bother configuring each and every game to show fps or take screenshots. The free version should be sufficient for you.

Thank you, I love you, lets mate.

Ok so am I the only one that does not have an Addons folder in the Interface folder? Dont think that I have the mod from curse installed properly but I have no where for it?

If you press "M" it'll bring up the world map which, if you look closely, is divided into four tiers from left to right. Empire v Chaos would be Norsca/Nordenland representing Tier 1, Ostland/Troll Country representing Tier 2, all the way to Inevitable City/Chaos Wastes/Praag/Reikland being Tier 4.

Dunno about the technical differences between PvP and RvR but I always assumed RvR meant PvP but on a larger scale.

Look on your map and you will see the tiers divided by lines. Teir 1 has 2 zones in it, as does tier 2 and 3. The final tier is made up of several zones and the capital cities.

RvR is just mythics term for it. They focus more on large scale battles. PvP probably means more of a solo player against another. War is not about personal glory but rather a team of players working together.

The world and races are divided up in several ways, first there is 6 races, 3 (Elf, Empire, Dwarf) which are order, and 3 of which are destruction (Dark elf, Chaos, Orc)

The world map is divided into conflicts between these races,

The Elves fight the Dark elves
The Empire fight the Chaos
The Dwarfs fight the Orcs

Each of the 6 races has 4 tiers of progression, each tier is essential one large zone, the first tier is essentially levels 1-10, T2 is 11-20 etc

The paired races zones are connected, so tier 1 for the elves connects straight to the tier 1 for the dark elves, between each T1 zone is an area where those races can fight, this is the open world RvR area where RvR is always enabled, this gives you a battlefront between T1 for all the matched pairs.

You can actually travel to any friendly races tier, so if you're playing empire and you're low level in T1 you can play all the empire quests but also fly to the Dwarf and Elf T1 as well, same for all the Tiers.

Does anyone know what total sales were for the first week of release? I couldn't find it anywhere.

no fix for the crash to desktop, it happens to me several times a night. Its the only program I amhaving prroblems with. No error just bam it closes itself....

Hmmm...doesn't happen to me. Nor anyone in my guild. Maybe it's a driver issue?

Ahhh, gotcha. Thanks guys. lvl 16 and I didn't know this, ha!

Have there been any big patches since the game's release?

Mythic doesn't do big patches. Unlike other MMO's that release one patch every month to two months mythic releases stuff as it's finished. So we've seen patches pretty much every day.

Also, I know what rvr stands for (realm vs realm), but what's the difference between PVP and RVR?

PVP is a WoW term for being level 20 in a level 20 zone and getting ganked by 6 level 70's in high level gear and then corpse camped.

RVR means a group of equals meets on the field of battle and contest the zone in combat. I love all the anti-ganking bits they included. It makes PvP/RvR so much more fun.

they are working on a big patch there going to release soon, they just havent told us whats going to be in it.

But they mostly do micro patchs, patching the game everyday fixing little bits at a time as they go.

Love this game but it has a serious memory leak... I am running Vista 64 with 4 gigs of ram and 4870x2 when I fire up the game all setting maxed it runs amazing then after a few hours it just slows down BIG time I also think part of all this stuttering people are talking about may be due to the memory leak.

No one else have this happen to them after playing the game for a while continuously?

There have been some good patches so far, like letting you queue for pvp from anywhere. Someone made a UI mod that lets you queue for everything at the same time, one button.

And yeah, it memory leaks still.

The patch next week should help with the memory leaks, as well as the afkers in RvR's.

I have no memory leak at all. It works its way up to about 1.38gb of ram and then sits there no matter how long I play.

I rerolled to Dark Crag (instant queue times) as a witch hunter. Name is bforbandetta. If anyone is on Dark Crag send me a tell.

I posted about the memory leak type behavior back in the previews and OB in this thread. Basically it acts like any other game does when it's leaking memory, but it never seems to eat up memory to any great extent...but I suspect it is pegging the CPU furiously...so maybe we'll start calling it "Cycle Leaking" because it runs smooth, then 1 or 2 hours later and the game starts getting pretty doggy.....like FPS will go from 50 to 0 every second or third step even though I've done all the stuff suggested for performance. It's less ....... noticeable now than it was in beta but it's still there. You can tell by how long it takes to unload itself from memory or how long the characters take to pop up when you log out to log in another char. I've had it never draw the character models at the login screen at times if I've been playing awhile. And I get black patches on my minimap..and sometimes the world map is completely "fog of wared" every time I open it. IE I can't see where the quest wants me to go, or I can't see who owns which RVR bits...and sometimes it won't even update ownership of these until I step up on the flag and it forces it.

I get the performance drop-off over time too. Originally, framerates are respectable, but after an hour or 2 just starts dogging.

I just installed yesterday and had to download a whopping 210 megs.

That's the information I was trying to get at. That's going to take a little while to download out here for me but it's not that bad...I was worried I'd have to wait for like a day or so to play once my copy arrives because I'd have to download a gigabyte patch or something (my downloads max out at 60kb/sec here)

If you start to get choppy after some time playing, do a /reloadui. Seems to help. Also, turning off lighting effects in your usersettings.xml file seems to go a long way at this point as well.

Quoted and reposted for quality tip.

Seriously everyone should do this. Performance has bar none been amazing if you follow these tips. Not only that, textures seem to be a lot better too, but perhaps placebo affect. Regardless, hardly any CTD's or any frame lag with a GTX 260 + 1920 x 1080 res, full everything. Even in Open RVR with 30-40 ppl on each side.

of course it's going to run better... it's telling you to turn lightmaps and specular lightning off and turn shadows to medium. Isn't that going to make it look worse?

Don't forget to clear your log files and set them to read-only, this will prevent the game from stuttering when it goes to record every single freaking event that happens while you play.

Of course it's going to degrade the visual quality of the game. But the lighting effects are causing hitching for quite a lot of people. Until it is fixed, this is the temp solution.

I don't care about running the game at max settings, all I care is the best settings I can manage without coming to a crawl in 100-200 person engagements. Right now, there isn't much performance different between a 4870X2, a GTX280 or a 4850. Hopefully, as optimizations are made, this will change.

A quad cpu like a 9450 w/ large cache would help right? Chews up code pretty good. Even if all cores are not used.
