Warhammer Online Thread!

any difference between beta client and D2D official release? I don't have access to retail discs...

I just reinstalled on Monday from my retail disks and it made a noticeable difference. Haven't had a CTD since the reinstall and scenarios are less laggy. FPS seems a little more stable as well.

I'll play through the weekend and see how it holds up, but so far so good. At this point I would recommend reinstalling if you're still using the beta client.

You can not get rid of the EULA for the time being. They did get rid of the code of conduct however. Mythic acknowledged that its annoying as hell to always click the EULA, however its helping them properly ban 5000+ gold farmers so far. Not sure on the legalities behind all that.

4966 banned. I love that message that pops up when they ban gold sellers, it's one of my favorite things about the game. I report every gold seller that messages me.

any difference between beta client and D2D official release? I don't have access to retail discs... At first I thought the improvements people were reporting were either placebo or a simple cache wipe from installing retail, but if you guys are saying that textures look better I have to see it myself. Ran a full file check in the patcher and it came up with no problems, can't believe Mythic would keep an inferior version of the game legitimate.

I'd say reinstalls always help. I used to reinstall WoW every few months and it made a big difference.

Thanks but it still doesn't answer my question. Guess I'll do the 11 gig download and find out, or hunt down someone with retail discs.

The only thing I could notice was the beta is missing video.myp, a large file which has the intro movie. There are small filesize differences for some other files (voice, texture, etc), but I figured that was from patches. I havent installed the DVDs yet either, I did do a 'full file check' for my beta client and not sure if that helped.

So just picked the game up a couple of days ago - great fun so far. I take it the idea of a [H] group/guild didn't take off? Anyway on Destruction on the Praag server if anyone else is (didn't go through 80+ pages of posts) - my first char is Dhalawyn (WE).

Superfly3176 and I are in a guild on Destruction Praag. Hit him up on his ingame name, Painolympics. I don't get to play as often as I like, but he's usually on at night

I nearly always come out on top in TF2, as did I with quake, quake 2, 3, 4 UT and numerous other fps games, so I know what you mean about the "skill" involved. You just have to go into it knowing they are a different beast, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun. The closest thing I've seen to, and I'm going to use this very loosely, a good "mmo" type pvp was Savage. It was pretty cool, combination of fps/rpg.. of course it got unbalanced real quick as the good players were also the faster leveling players, one really skilled person could swing the entire game.

I played a little bit of the Dark Messiah Might and Magic multiplayer beta a couple years back and I enjoyed it from the standpoint of RPGish-ness. It was class based and XP/leveling based as well. You gained XP and leveled as you played and you assigned what were essentially talent points to specialize in different trees. The mages could to fire or lightning, archers had a few to choose from, so did priests and warriors. It was a hell of a lot of fun...

I wonder if anyone still plays it. I didn't actually buy the game when it came out.

I'm Rexkramer on Praag, level 18 sorcerer.

ill be sure to send painolympics a PM in game on my disciple of khaine, as my marauder is already in another friends guild.

but suprisingly, i havent played in the past few days.... its weird....

I got the game last wednesday, rank 8 Squig Herder named Trageth on Karak Azgal. I love it.

Don't come talk to me, I'm not social.

A guildie and I were on last night doing the Tor Agnar scenario (the Tier 3 lava one).

For some reason, Destruction ALWAYS gets the skull first. I've never seen Order get it first ever. We got lucky and the fool didn't instantly run back to the spawn point and we took the group and him down. Then, we retreated to the east side where there is two very small bridges over the lava and proceeded to stalemat them right in the middle section. When a bunch respawned, I ran onto the first bridge right past their wall of tanks and swept 5 of their healers and mages right off the side of the cliff in one blow. It was hilarious. None made it to shore and died in flames and arrowfire. Their tanks died fast as well. We shut them down 500 to 48.

What is worse is our avg level was 22.1. Theirs was 26.85.

I did the install with the "official" game client and the game runs like a DREAM. My load times are much much faster and I'm not getting any jerkiness anywhere.

The map design is a bit off so all things being equal, Destruction will always get there first if it's a race between a White Lion and a Marauder. Before yesterday's patch, Order usually got it first because of the White Lion Leap Attack exploit. I'm just happy I don't have to deal with that map anymore since I dinged 32. Tor Anroc and Mourkain Temple are the two biggest reasons for me to not make an alt in that game. I think I'd rather quit before I have to do another scenario once I hit 40.

Hey how well do you guys think Warhammer would run on a laptop that has a 9500 M GS (very similar to the 8600 M GT if I recall correctly) at 1280x800? I think I may brave the inevitable lag that would accompany this crappy connection out here in Kosovo to go ahead and try this out.

I think it might run alright. WAR runs decently on my system and I am sure that your laptop could outrun my system currently.

Well, we'll see how the 'net connection does. Ordered on Newegg.

I can't believe I'm about to let myself possibly get sucked into another MMO...

Im drunk and aboot to play before i burn a dvd. Hit me up on praag my guild is pretty chill group. I do usually play at nights after work so that's when im on.

We're in Strife Gaming. It's really chill.
you're in strife gaming? me too :) on vent right now actually, kinda drunk :D
I just gave up on my other toon, gonna play with you guys on Praag now that Strife finally rolled on a good server. I guess you met Tike, Rand, Arsh , and what we could gather of the old wow crew... It really is a small internet man.

FRAPS is a program which will show you your FPS no matter what game you are playing. It also has other nifty features, like the ability to take screenshots, capture movies, benchmark etc etc.
http://www.fraps.com/

Its a very useful little program, I have it running 24/7 on my PC, so I don't need to bother configuring each and every game to show fps or take screenshots. The free version should be sufficient for you.

Oh shit what's your guys name? I love Randl the guy is so nice. This is becoming like the [H] guild in warhammer.

Are they ever going to fix the performance issues, or do they just not give a shit?

err what performance issues?

The only thing I get is when I open my mailbox it takes a few seconds to open and delete things and when I root someone they still follow me around on my screen except that they are actually still where I rooted them at, and technically your rig is a tad bit beefier then mine. I have more ram and an 8800 gtx and my cpu is oc to 3.8 ghz.

I drop down to 25>fps in populated warcamps and RvR action, 15fps in heavy action. Morale abilities take like 30seconds of spamming to activate, mailbox items take 30minutes to open, in the inevitable city textures on NPCs only sharpen up when im 1inch from them.

Video cards don't seem to matter in this game, you can have an 8600 or a GTX280 and get similar framerates, but god forbid your CPU be under 3.6ghz.

My FPS gets choppy sometimes but I don't have the other problems you talk about. You arn't running the old beta client are you?

My system in sig runs the game pretty well...playing 2560x1600rez, with 4xAA/16xAF Highest quality set in nVidia control panel. I do feel choppy in some areas, but too me it feels more lag than actual slow video performance, I think they need to beef up servers a little better, or get the ping rates down, I bet that would make game feel much smoother ?

There are still little bugs that need work, but I feel over the next couple of months most issues should be worked out. I have issue every time I log on, it resets to 1920x1200 res for full screen, even though I always have to reset it to my native 2560x1600, and I click apply and ok, but when I start the game the next day it never keeps it ??

I would also like to see an Ultra Quality Setting sometime, for people with high end machines, the graphics do look nice, it is just the ground/road textures and rocks/hills still look low res or slightly blurry, they should be much higher rez, even 4yr old WoW has sharper/clearer looking roads, that's really my only beefo with the graphics, just the roads/hills look old school in a bad way, other than that the game is much better looking than WoW.

don't really have any performance issues on my rig and it sure as hell is worse than yours. Give it a few months and they will be beefing up performance.

Huh? I'm running a s939 Opteron with an 8800 GTS 512 at 1920x1080 (most visual things turned to optimal, distance is about a third).

I'd be looking at other reasons for your slowdowns.Game runs great for me, did with 8800 GTX and does with GTX 280. I run @ 1920 x 1200 16x Aniso 8xQ AA and the game settings maxxed with no issues. When was the last time you defragged your hard drive? Using updated drivers? etc etc.....

The way people perceive game performance varies greatly, a framerate that is smooth to one person might be shit to another, which is why we use numbers. It's definitely not as fast as one would think it should be on today's hardware given the relatively conservative fidelity of the world. MrBojangels is absolutely right when he describes the cpu bottleneck, even with a 4ghz e8400 the framerate is almost identical between 800x600 and 1920x1200 in most scenes on my 8800GT, I play at 1600x1000 and only after trying 4x AA did I see a difference but that's a known g92 weakness.. When I lowered the cpu back to the default 3ghz my framerate took a big hit. I have everything maxed out with 2xAA and 8xAF forced in the driver (I don't think the latter does anything in this game) and get 70+ most of the time in scenarios but in a T3 keep siege with I was lucky to average 30, and that's when I get the urge to upgrade/overclock more but there is really nothing you can do short of shooting for 5ghz. A dev did say that animation scales very well to 4 cores and it might make a difference in heavy RvR situations but I haven't seen any evidence. Lightmaps and specular are a huge hit but the game looks like crap without lighting, but BuffThrottle makes a big difference for the stuttering that happens in big groups.

Windowed mode is bugged for me btw, sometimes it runs identically to full screen mode (forces vsync on though damn it) but more often it runs at 2/3 of the speed and uses significantly less cpu. I'm thinking it's a thread priority issue because if I go to full screen and back it starts running at full speed until it bugs again. I watch task manager on the other monitor and I can see the difference when it happens (50% vs 80%) plus the framerate goes down by like 30%. Most are used to wow's crappy windowed mode performance (compared to full screen anyway) and you might be thinking this is normal but WAR's windowed mode is definitely capable of running every bit as fast as full screen it just doesn't do it most of the time for some stupid reason. And you have to risk the damn black screen bug every time you try to fix it.

It seems weird to me that "Wounds" is the stamina/endurance/vitality stat. The more wounds you have, the tougher you are? I think whoever came up with that is an S&M freak. ;)

Can't wait until my copy gets here....
