Warhammer Online Thread!

World of Warcraft is meant to look like Warcraft 3... which it does a VERY good job of doing.

I think I will buy a new graphics card when this comes out! or maybe 2 of them. Hope ATI stays ahead! I dont have any freetime even but I think I will buy this game and get sucked back into turning pale and eating twinkies.

Wish I could have gotten into the beta last year :(

will i be able to run it on a p4 3.2ghz and a 7800gtx at high setting in 1680x res?

I wouldn't buy any upgrades until you can test it for sure. The final graphics aren't in yet so we don't know how much of an impact they'll make on our systems. The game won't look that much different anyway but as of right now, your machine would do fine.

the game looks like wow so i assumed it would run well on my system. if not i will pick it up when i finaly upgrade my pc next year

Man I cant wait till the final game client is released... amazing graphics not to mention the gameplay blows away WoW.

I hope you are right, but I doubt it :( Hopefully I can get in on the open beta and see for myself. AoC ruined the "listen to beta players" view for me. That ended up being :(

The fact that the "open" beta really just appears to be a few days for preorders also supports that view for me. Wish they went for an actually open beta like WoW. Feels like MMOs that keep it closed off as much as possible until launch, are just trying to hide all the flaws. Who knows though, might still end up being good.

From what I've read and heard it seems to be fun and much better then AoC. Kinda looks like WoW to me, but with other classes and better PVP. I guess I'll find out later today!

Anyone know if this WAR supports Mac's? My wife will want to play also I'm guessing and she's a Mac fangirl. It's about time she learns to stop carebearing too.

The open beta is a week long. This is just a preview weekend.

Should work on Boot Camp if the Mac meets the required system requirements. There's no Mac OS X client unfortunately.

Game is beautiful, but I don't feel like I'm getting a good fps. It feels to me like ......32-35 fps on high 1920x1200.

Whats the command to show fps?

Have to use Fraps as there is no in game FPS/Ping feature.

Will there be any differences between preview weekend and open beta?

F YI, closed beta client and patch is the same thing you're all playing right now. I played in the CB and my client has not been given anything except for today's small 8mb patch since I lasted logged in CB.

More people? There will probably be some patches between now and then but Mythic hasn't said anything specifically.

Hmm, and do you know if the preview characters will be wiped for OB?

Oh and one more thing: Is there any incentive in starting another career as you already played?

For example I'm really having fun with DoK right now which I plan on making my main once WAR goes live, but I'm afraid that I'll just be bored of it because I will see the same things and exprience exactly what I did during this preview weekend/OB while leveling (at least in the newbie zone which I'm in right now).

Every company that has ran a beta test for their MMO has always wiped all beta characters prior to release. This one is no different so yes, don't expect to keep your beta character.

There are no incentives or bonuses for playing in beta. Once the game launches, everyone's characters will be on even ground. The advantage beta players have is that they typically know the layout and mechanics of the game more than someone that's new so beta players usually level up faster as a result. I've been in beta a while and my characters have been wiped multiple times per week in come cases so I know all of the starting areas very well.

Most times though, people play different class/races for the fact they don't want to become bored of their preferred class. I've been limiting myself to playing only classes I'll probably won't play in retail.

I dunno Im having some kind of severe memory leak or something. This game runs good for 30-45 minutes, then it starts getting really hitchy and stuttering. Logging out and back in clears it up somewhat, but completely reloading really fixes it for me.

So is there some "preferred" 8800 gtx driver for this game that anyone is aware of?

I'm talking about if they're going to be wiped for open beta, not retail. So I started a char in preview, but will it stay for open beta.

And I wasn't talking about incentives just in beta. But in general, to play the same career more than once..

Can you play this preview weekend if you just have the normal pre order and not the CE?

Lineage 2 did not wipe from beta to retail. Pretty bold statement there hoss.

I pre-ordered the standard box from GoGamer.com yesterday afternoon. I received an email from GoGamer with my Open-Beta and Headstart codes a few hours after I ordered. I setup my Mythic Master and Game accounts last night. I also registered my Beta key with FilePlanet so that I could download the beta client. Woke up this morning and checked my account and it was flagged for the preview weekend.

I'm not sure, but I think the fact that I registered the key with FilePlanet helped the whole "Preview Access" flagging process along.

Just waiting to get out of work so I can go home and try to play :)

Ah, hope it works for me.

I just pre ordered mine from gogamer as well but this morning, got the key about two hours ago and d/ling the client now from FP.

It's a bold statement because of Lineage 2? Ok. More like a mistake but thanks for pointing that out I guess.

Characters will be wiped from the start of Open Beta since max level will only be 20.

Gotta say, my first scenario RvR is disappointing. I made a DoK, got to rank 6 and tried it for the first time, same results every time I went in (about 10 times total)

We got steam rolled every single time I went in. There is no clear teamwork in this game, some idiot may run into a group of 10 people, while most stand 50 yards back and just seem to move around but not cast any spells or try to do any damage.

No one chats in party chat (/sc), nothing. Just blindly running around into groups of enemies hoping they can take someone down.

Being a healer is a bitch because the group bars/targetting system is flat out retarded, you can't even tell if someone is out of range or not, you have to first select them from the bad party UI which is incredibly clunky, and then check your ability bar and hope it shows them as in range so you can heal them.

People and NPC animations are also really bad, lots of clipping, moving mobs randomly sit down and up while floating in air, etc.

PvE is actually really fun, but I'm getting this game mainly for the PvP, not PvE. Which is really disappointing me right now.

Seems that (at least on this preview weekend), Warhammer Destruction is WoW's alliance.

The most fraustrating part is when you're fighting someone and get low and try to run away, there are always like 5 allies around that block your path and you end up dying (I thought collision detection was only supposed to be for the opposite faction and that we were supposed to be able to walk through allies..)

To me it seems that this is more like a transition from alpha to beta, not beta to retail.

I would love to make a video of me trying this RvR scenario, but I don't know how to compress fraps files and whatnot, and have no editing skills whatsoever

Yeah the no teamwork thing frustrated me when I first joined but it's to be expected for a while until people learn some tactics. Right now it's new and everyone is zerging and trying to do the most damage and whatnot. People still fail to realize that RvR is team-based and not 1v1 PvP. Most of the time healers won't do anything but stand there or only try to DPS. It's going to take a while for people to figure out the basics.

Yup, same deal with any new game.

Yeah this is true. I'm definitely still buying the game once it launches, but only in hopes of it getting better within the next few months. If I knew this would stay exactly as it is now I wouldn't bother with it for sure.

Classes and abilities are cool, but with the terrible group UI this is a no good for me.

I also feel 0 team work right now, which is the premise of this game :( There is no chat or any communication. Only team work is a healer healing someone from time to time, that's where it ends.

I have been looking over the career calculator on wardb.com and I'm really liking what I see. Different than WoW's branching trees but still deep enough to allow some unique builds. This game could be great after all if Mythic stays committed to it, I have hope. 80 renown ranks for an extra 5 talent points though? Is that like a pvp prestige system and how long would it take to get to 80?
