This is the last version of the map before my server went down and 1.8 came out.

The intention is not to remove warps all together. We were talking about expanding the features of the warping/home system.

But the problem with having so many mods is that people will use them as a crutch, even if they don't really want to.

Really though, a lot of that comes down to if/else statements. It's easy to go around in circles on this.

the only thing about the warps going away i really like is that it would encourage us to work on a railway :)

Thats the main reason I never really did anything with railways...warps were SO much easier. I used warps so much, i never walked any great distance more than once. :D

Limiting warps might be a good way to go. IMO*

*(My opinions are expressed as strictly as that. How ever the server rules/mods turn out, I'm fine with. I appreciate greatly those who take the time to setup/run/admin/etc the server. :D )

Will enderman move blocks under minecart tracks potentially wrecking a track system?

Possibly, but as long as its kept out of the reach of Endermen it will be fine. I.e. raised above the ground or kept well-lit underground. Of course underground railways often don't work because Scumbag Steve players who tunnel around under other peoples stuff and don't care what they break :p

This doesn't happen often does it? If you can have this happen, and can track down the player that did it please please please let an admin know! We'll take care of the problem the best we can.

Think my next project will be completely outlines in obsidian, won't stop people but maybe they'll get the idea... don't go paste the obsidian >.>

Probably faster to outline your build in lava. I was thinking of an underground protection curtain that is essentially just a ring dug straight down to bedrock starting one block beneathe the surface, then lava source blocks placed at the top of each block in the ring.

People can get through if they really want, but...

when i was playing the beta of 1.8, i saw an abandon mine shaft and the ground was missing underneath the tracks but the tracks were still there until i placed a block under it and removed that block......so they might not affect rails unless that was fixed

I tunnel into ppl place all the time, thats the danger about building close to ppl

I accidentally tunneled into an underground subway (that I had no idea existed!) about a week ago, but I fixed it and then tunneled down a couple levels.:p

So, true story, on our test server we already have stealing going on. This morning someone jacked a bunch of Illustrial's diamonds. This is sad because the server is made up pretty much entirely of trusted HardCraft people, and it's a small group. It doesn't matter much since it's all going away soon probably anyhow, but the idea bothers me. I checked the server logs and no one strange has been on since Illu last saw her diamonds.

Is Lockette the only thing that keeps our community from pilfering each other? If so, that's very sad.

As theres like no diamonds anywhere (even if you dig :(), wouldn't it be pretty obvious who has them?

That is sad.
Not that I do very well in this game, I die a lot, but I would be pissed if someone stole my hard earned stuff.

We should have a cage of shame for people who get caught breaking rules. They get their build rights removed and their spawn point set to a glass cage where everyone can point and laugh at them.

I think anyone caught stealing should have their virtual hands cut off...

Two options:
1)Install a mod that logs block changes etc. to a database so we can look up who's done what if we need to.

2)Deal with the fact that stuff is going to get stolen and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Otherwise you're just "wishing" that you'll catch the person, and in that case a line from Bad Santa comes to mind; Shit in one hand, wish in the other, then tell me which one fills up first.

Option 1 would create logs that would be SOOOOO large that they a) wouldnt be space efficient (imagine a data log file thats 100MB in size for 1 day) and b) would be to time consuming to go through!

Option 2, we shouldnt have to worry, especially since these are [H] members

I can't see how logs for stuff going in/out of chests would be very big. and you only need a few days worthj

This is a good plugin for anti-grief security.

But really a chest locking plugin takes care of most of the problem. You can still have griefers and just restore backups in case of serious issues.

On a related note, I tried to switch the test world over to Bukkit so we could lock our chests but it didn't like the world. Fresh world was fine. Very strange. So I put it back on vanilla server.

Isn't it a preview serverblahblah? Should work if you just did a fresh one or something. Is bukkit up to 1.8 yet?

I have not done it, I have not been on in a week.

good to see that bukkit is getting close to a release

Apparently the thief was g1 moving Illu's stuff without telling her. I have banned him! We're safe now.

If you're really worried about stealing/griefing you can using something like this to only log certain blocks (like tnt + diamonds).

Here is a link to a test render of a 1000x1000 1.8.1 world, for anyone who is curious about how much size that'd give us to work with in the new 1.8 world.

Looks good...definitely puts people as close neighbors. I won't make my permanent "home" there, but a community project would be fun. (maybe a massive community grinder?). It would be nice to have a central HUB with roads, signs, directions, etc. Maybe a massive railways system to ferry people to other large hubs. (thinking out loud here...just an opinion)

Maybe a week or two/three later, expand the world? For me, breathing room is a necessity. My projects are usually large and wide....which is why on the last server I went pretty far north, away from SPAWN, so I would have a lot of area to work with and not run into anyone's place. Last thing I want to see from my relaxing home view is a huge monstrosity in the sky... :D

I think the idea is to expand at 1.9 since thats when we're getting snow and mushroom biomes, and who knows what else. There was talk of volcanos. Nick or Insom can decide on the specifics i guess.

yea, looks good. Maybe, pre 1.9, we could create some kind of structured main settlement/city area. One where everyone gets the same amount of space. Force people to be creative and differentiate their plot. Plus there would need to be rules (no grinders, for example, in city limits). Could plant trees and plot streets.
Outside that area, no rules. Then, once 1.9 hits and the map is expanded, it's a free for all in the new areas.

Just a thought. Would create a nice area for visitors, new folks in the future at spawn.
