I can get into the [H]ardcraft 1.8 test server just fine, but then again I didn't do this latest update yet :).

Ive been on 24.22.7.85:25565

Not sure if that's the official test server or not.

Not sure what the problem is, Fail. I see your failed connection attempts in the log, but the messages there are equally unhelpful, and I don't see any other attempts besides yours.

Just picked up this game. would like to play online with others that are nice an helpful. does anyone know any good servers that are up right now?

the only servers we talk about here is the Hardcraft server, and the 1.8 test server
and both servers are up.

Your best bet is to wait until the main server is updated to 1.8 and then join us there. We have a test server up but it'll be going down as soon as the main server is up, and you won't be able to keep anything you build.

yeah I can connect to the main HC server now, but i'm gonna hop off, it's like 4:30 a.m.

One thing from 1.8 I could do without is the memory leakage. Every time I enter or exit the nether, permanent +100MB memory footprint, until eventually I hit max and the game goes kaboom.

mod question.
for 1.8 is there a mod out there that lets you create some sorta of teleporter to get around?
and is there some sort of admin tools thing that maybe lets you say what types of items you can give yourself and which ones you cant?

Runecraft should be updated soon enough. I use that for teleporters on my server.

It's not that we don't want todo any work, it's that we 1) are already doing a lot of work for this. 2) don't have the time to actually do half the things being suggested. Especially that last one. Every single person will then be saying they had a double chest full of diamond block stacks. And if they aren't lying, that means we need to give each person allthete stuff I game. Do you not realize how much work that is? To repeat that for 20+ players, while making sure plugins are working correctly, and managing other aspects of the server will take forever.

This isn't a full time job you know?

Look, the bottom line is that we're trying to come up with compromises. But of course no ones happy with that. Don't use a starter pack, this is [H]. Then wait, I want my stuff from the old world. Well wtf, what happened to being hard?

Give us half a damn moment to breath already!

Edit1: And pardon my typos. I'm on my phone ATM.

Edit2: I'm sorry for being so aggressive. I'm getting all sorts of stressed about this. I deal with stress all day long at work. It's tough to come home and deal with it after hours as well. Gets me grumpy.

As one of the more active players I am willing to help out on any of the in game stuff. I am on almost all the time, well until the whole 1.8 thing started.

Definetly want to start playing again, although I've said that before :). To be honest I just always feel a bit overwhelmed when I go in there, I'll definitely be dropping by though.

Why is alot of this still coming up?

For those who dont think im "compromising"

You do not know what goes on, what we do in the background. You are not aware of the "other comments" we get on PM's and in game, you have no idea what everyone else is TRULY saying. If you dont think this is a compromise than heres the REAL compromise

You do what ever keeps the most people happy!

If you are one of the few that wont be happy with the decisions, im sorry, but that is the choice I had to make and that I confered with Nick and G1 about. There is to much going on behind the scenes to fully understand, not to mention the real life aspects we deal with all the time too.

Now understand this, me and Nick run things for G1 because, not our time schedule, but our ability to make decisions and our experiance with running larger projects. This is a project! It is something we have devoted whatever free time we have to do, not just building items and storing materials, we help however which way we can.

If you are so upset about items you are not going to be able to bring with you, than im sorry. We can help you recoup most of them by helping you mine or gather whatever you need, otherwise, im sorry!

1.8 = a new map.

Im sorry, but where this game is still a beta game, nothing is permanent. WHen 1.9 comes out we will probally have a new map again as well...... depending of course on what kind of changes are made between the versions!

you have no idea what everyone else is TRULY saying.

Then maybe so many people need to stop saying things in server chat like "I don't care what we do as long as we get a new map for 1.8" or "I don't care either way what we do."

Maybe they should be a little more honest with the general population so that people don't believe that everyone is fine and dandy with moving things over.

I probably won't be joining you all in 1.8. Take care everyone.

I was catching up on all these new pages that I missed and i stopped at page 169. i just cant take it anymore........

EVERYONE QUIT YOUR BITCHING!

This is why the admins already made their decision about whats going on.

IF it is any consolation, it doesn't matter to me what we do, if we go to a new map or stick with the old one. If we go with a small map, or large map, eh. I just like playing with others. Though some community projects would be cool.

Though I would love a second warp point per person...

According to DyN, you're LYING ianshot! Tell me how you really feel ;)

How about we all simmer down, throw all this bullshit out the window, and figure this out in a way thats not pissing off half the community, and isn't going to take a ton of work for the admins?

I tried porting an old 1.7 SP map of mine to 1.8, and I'll be honest, I can't see where the original world ended (I never went very far from home base in that world :D ) and where the 1.8 generation actually began. And I'm seeing the same with a couple other maps. Of the maps I've tried, I've found ONE with what appears to be an obvious line where 1.8 terrain was generated, but it DOESN'T go on forever. Once it hits a coastline, it gradually tapers off.

Why couldn't we try an expansion of the current map now, and see what happens?

By the time I remembered I didn't have time to do it last night. I'll try and get a zip of the world up on my webserver tonight.

I believe the current thinking is that outside of the /home command, the only places that will get warps are building hubs where at least 5 people have meaningful builds. At least that's what Insom was talking about on the test server a couple days ago.

Nick and Insom can correct if I'm wrong here, but I think we're going fairly lightweight on mods this time.

It's already been figured out and it's done. People can't seem to get it through their heads, though.

That is the thinking, minimal mods. But we're still hammering out the details on our end.

We've gone over this already. 1.8 is missing the snow biome, and 1.9 will also be adding other biomes, so if we were to expand the current map now, we would miss out on not only snow, but any other biomes that come with 1.9.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the majority of the players would just like a fresh start with a new world. The biomes are really great in 1.8, and I'm really looking forward to how awesome we can make the server look with all of the mountains, villages, strongholds, etc.

Being able to have multiple homes would be great for exploring. Have your main home, and then a secondary home where you gather resources or whatever. I'm pretty sure I saw a mod for this.

It's not about the # of mods, it's about the game... it's supposed to be Hardcraft Survival, warps and multiple homes will kinda defeat the point. I've noticed a lot more people dieing in the test server, and I think that's good.

It still would be nice to have some of the warps and one home. I explored way more when I know I can just warp home when I got enough stuff, or I got into too much trouble.

You mean the snow biomes that are currently largely untouched in the current map? (I honestly only can think of a few people who built up in them) And theres nothing saying that we can't expand again at 1.9 (or start over then or when Minecraft comes out of final).

Honestly, I think you're probably one of the only people that wants to keep the old map at this point.

I don't think that expanding the already huge map would work out so well. It would take forever to get from the old map to the newer sections unless you used warps. I think most of the people would play in the new sections, so the old part of the map would probably be largely abandoned anyways. I know I wouldn't be in the old section.

Yeah as it stands already the survival portion of Minecraft is pretty weak, mods that easy-mode everything are not that fun. If people want to just build with impunity, there is creative mode. The point of Survival is to add some challenge, but mostly the idea that these grand builds we create were actually created with blood sweat and tears.

What's the point of building an epic rail system if no one uses it because they can teleport everywhere? What's the point of exploring if there's never any real risk of getting owned and losing all your loot because your last checkpoint is 20 blocks away? A single /home destination already saps a lot of the risk out... a huge myriad of warps and homes and stuff would just put the final nail in the coffin of exploration risk.

I'm really glad we're keeping it minimal.

The great thing about Minecraft in my opinion is that there really is nothing saying that something has to be done in a certain way. Everything is open to interpretation. One player might like the challenge of walking all over the map and gathering resources without using any mods to help them. Another player might like the creative side of the game and wants to build great looking structures and travel around viewing other people's creations. The best thing about Minecraft is that both of these things can happen at the same time and one doesn't really effect the other. If you want to be hardcore and not use any help, you're free to do that. If you want to use all of the mods to aid you in any way you can, you're also free to do that, and it really doesn't have any effect on the person that wants to be hardcore.

What I'm getting at here is that I believe that we could have all of the mods under the sun, but that doesn't necessarily remove the challenge from the game. You don't have to use the mods if you don't want to.

I'm likely going on for no reason as it seems everyone's minds are made up on the way things are going to work, but I'll throw my 2 cents out there anyways.

I would be very sad to see warps removed. One of my favorite things is warping around and checking out all of the amazing things people have built.
