The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

some bad news. gw2 will come out on consoles as well

Sounds to me like more gamers get to play Guild Wars 2. That is good news. Contrary to popular belief, there is nothing wrong with consoles or console gamers.. in fact they outnumber you by quite a large margin.

The CEO of Crytek decided to port Crysis 2 to Consoles as a result..

Crysis 2 = Best played if its pirated (even if Crytek had released a patch to graphically enhance the game for the PC)

Crytek = Suffers huge loss of profit (Not getting much love from consoles either because those
who play in console are playing Crysis 2 (as mentioned above) in PC, downloaded from torrent
and ftp sites.

CEO of Crytek = " If i could only turn back time and further enhance the game experience of Crysis 2 by utilizing
the full features of DX11 and Tessellation and making it more interesting for PC and leaving the console
for now, maybe i could've earn a lot more of profits as compared to what happened now.. "..

-- Maybe this is what the CEO of NCSoft and ArenaNet wants to happen...

Crysis 1 and 2 are both available on consoles now. Nothing you babbled about makes any sense. Playing pirated version of games is never better and discussing pirating around these parts will get you banned.

There've been plenty reports about how often times pirated versions of games are definitely more user friendly. Also, it's perfectly fine to discuss piracy on these boards, we do it all the time. The guy never said he pirated, which if he had IS against the ToS at [H]

No offense in anyway..

I never endorsed pirating this game (maybe you misunderstood what i said) and i may used the wrong words to express my opinion
but im making my self clear, i never endorsed piracy.

-- If you read on some other popular tech sites and game forums and blogs about Crysis 2, you'll see many people are so
disappointed and mad about what Crytek did with Crysis 2 with the "porting to Console" issue though this is off topic and its not
appropriate to post what they said here nor the issues discussed, and sticking with the topic, want im just saying is that
as far as GW 2 "porting to console" is concerned Its developers are risking the important visual aspects of GW 2 that will affect its
players which, 100 percent of it right now are on PC (mainly from GW 1) and, as we all know GW 2 is a very graphically appealing
game and one of its important features is users can fine tune their video settings where they can set the amount of details of their
character's looks, armors, weapons, accessories, skills, environments, etc. in anyway they like, as detailed as they can as long
as their video cards can render it without any lags in order to maximize gaming experience WHERE, these details in consoles are
only at fixed setting due to its very limited rendering power with that, customization would become very very limited for PC and will
tremendously affects the game's RICH visual gameplay since the developers of GW 2 will be forced to balance the game's
"graphical" features in order to render properly in consoles. As far as selling point is concerned that is not very very good.

Its like mcdonalds selling their popular big mac but this time they removed the beef patty so others can afford it anytime they want.
Would you still buy your favorite hamburger even if they remove the beef patty?..

wow, that sure sounds badass

Yes it does. I am a little nervous about seeing it in practice, but very excited at the same time.

I still worry about FPS and latency rates with large groups of people fighting it out, and conversely, not enough people. I wonder if the rewards are going to be good enough for people to be in there at all times during the two weeks. If they're too good though, it seems those people would have no incentive to do PvE content (assuming you get exp for WvWvW- I know you do in the 5v5 battles).

I have a feeling the battle will be extremely slow during the first 13 days and then everyone will be there on the 14th day. Again, what point is there to be doing things in there for the first 13 days? I'm excited to find out, because I'm sure they have it covered.

Man, the 20th is going to be like Christmas. Hopefully WvWvW is one of the things they're allowed to talk about. I know with TotalBiscuit's latest YouTube video regarding his access to beta, he mentioned some things are not allowed to be talked about, but that we wouldn't really be interested in those things either.

I hope this WvWvW turns out really well. I remember the RvRvR fighting at the launch of DAOC was some of the best computer gaming I've ever had. Huge amount of people fighting for keeps constantly and the action was virtually non-stop. Hopefully GW2 captures some of that flair.

:eek::D:cool:

This is what MMO's need, not just the typical grindy WoW Raid style, but some fun objectives for entire Guilds + friends to play together in.

I played WarHammer Online the first few months of release, and as buggy and unfinished as that game was, the best part was the RvR Castle siege stuff, which sounds similar to what WvW in GW 2 will be, and that is a great thing to see. Stuff like this will make me want to keep playing and coming back, and not get so burned out once max level.

It still amazes me that Guild Wars 2 will be free to play, no monthly subscription, how can they make this very bad ass and big multiplayer MMO, but WoW and ToR have to charge monthly fee ?
Is GW 2 going to be as large as like WoW vanilla, as far as the PvE leveling process, or is it much smaller world ? And is it an open ended world, allowing you to go anywhere you feel like ?

Thanks for that :)

I would think WoW will see it biggest threats this year, first with SW;ToR out already, and then soon with Guild Wars 2. And with GW 2 being free to play, and offering so many fresh and original game ideas, with gorgeous graphics, who the heck wants to play World of Pandas this Summer/Fall ?

GW2 is hands down my most anticipated game this year. Only other games I am looking forward to, I not due until 2013/2014, and they happen to be MMO's too;

- Copernicus = Curt Schilling MMO
- WarHammer 40K = Sci/Fi MMO
- Titan = Blizzard's next gen MMO set in a steampunk world supposedly, they want to set the theme in something Blizzard has never before done, and they have the Fantasy theme in Diablo + WoW...Sci/Fi in StarCraft...lots of people speculating it will be a steampunk theme with a twist.

@ Zorachus

GW2 is one of my most anticipated game this year too, been watching some in game videos of it on
youtube, the way the characters cast their skills in mid air are awesome and the visual effects are very
appealing.

- Sure is its one helluva WOW and Age of Conan player getter...

- Sounds very interesting, this is kinda like RF online sci-fi theme minus the factions but with options to choose a
profession / sub profession i think...

Titan is still a couple years off, most are speculating the official announcement at Blizzcon 2013, with a release in Fall 2014. At that time WoW will be releasing it's 5th and final expansion for Levels 90 - 100 end game.

Who knows, this could all completely change big time.

Since wow changed to 5 level expansions for Cata and MoP, I would be very surpirsed if they did 90-100 as a single expansion. Likely the whole reason they dropped to 5 levels was so they could fit more expansions before 100. I agree that Titan won't be out any time soon, but I wouldn't be surprised if wow is still getting xpacs after titan is released.

Yeah would not surprise me if they milk the WoW ca$h cow to like Level 110 and total of 8 expansions. But to be honest I don't give a shit anymore. WoW died to me after Cataclysm, plus the piss poor graphics and outdated game play are so stale and boring today. Time to move on.

From a business perspective it would not make any sense at all to stop actively supporting WoW. Despite some the doom and gloom you hear about it (mostly I'd say just due to counter backlash against its popularity) needs some perspective on just how popular it is. EQ for instance received new content just last year, which is also way past EQ2s release. WoW has a lot of player base to lose before it gets anywhere near irrelevancy.

GW2 Press Beta Begins - Arena.net blog.

the article said:
It starts today.

Hundreds of invited players and press from around the world will be logging into Guild Wars 2 for a beta test weekend of high adventure, exploration, in-depth personal stories, and teeth-rattling combat. We love playing our game as much as we love showing it off to our fellow gamers, so damn near everyone at ArenaNet will be logging in this weekend to play alongside our beta testers.

After this beta weekend we’re all going to have lots of great stories to tell about epic world vs world battles, hilarious NPC chatter, hidden wonders, narrow escapes, hard-fought victories, as well as moments of quiet awe in this magnificent handcrafted world.

Next week, media will be posting their observations and videos online, so prepare yourself for a flood of information and gameplay footage. In a Dev Update right here on the ArenaNet Blog, Lead Designer Eric Flannum will discuss some of the changes players experienced during this beta weekend event. Plus, we’ll have some very specific information about an upcoming Guild Wars 2 beta event – I guarantee you will not want to miss it!
That last sentence...

One thing that I never liked about Guild Wars was the equipment. The most leet equipment was only a few percent better that the standard stuff... That made it impossible to make a "godly" toon.

I did enjoy the game in general though. I have never been a big gamer, but I do remember Icy Dragon Sword runs and having a 20/20 Necromancer and doing underworld cleanings by myself, or with a 20/20 Monk. So tough and so much fun...

20/20 builds didn't exist for too long, did they? I honestly don't think they were imba since they required so much patience and learning curve was so high to play a build like that.

Seems like a positive to me that you can't let gear alone make you so much better than the next guy.

The point isnt to be godly based on gear, but on skill. As much fun as you think it is to win in an F1 Ferrari vs a Go Kart, that doesn't show any skill.

lol To each his own I guess because that was one of my favorite parts.

That is one of the things I hated most about WoW, all the gear score snobs, and show offs. Raid leaders would interview your gear to see if they would allow you to run a Raid with them. My brother joked WoW became of World of Gearcraft or World of Carrot-On-A-Stick. WoW end game is all about the iLevel gear you had. To have the best end game gear, you need to play the game like a job, punch in your time card, and go to work running dungeons and raids for Valor points. Lame.

The PvP in Guild Wars was extremely competitive, and lessening a player's reliance on gear really helped facilitate high-level play.

So hard to not get excited. So many hyped RPG failures in recent years. I hope this game is good, but I have to be cynical.

Well the NDA is completely open and they've allowed people to both record and take screens.... so they wouldn't be 'leaked' at all

the guy who leaked them got banned from the beta and may face legal action. i of course am under no NDA, but i guess it's better to wait two days.

For all that it has "different", Guild Wars 2 is still just too close to the generic MMO formula for my liking. A little cynicism when it comes to MMOs is a good thing.

The NDA definitely still applies until Monday. Can't remember the exact time, but somewhere around 9-10am EST IIRC. While people in the beta currently are allowed to record and take screenshots, they cannot release them until Monday. No streaming is allowed either.

Yeah, I wouldn't post them here for risk of getting banned. They are easily enough found with a little searching on Google, and honestly they aren't very good leaked screenshots. Definitely not worth the banning that they received.

They are definitely taking a step in the right direction though. Trying to change the MMO genre that has become so extremely stagnant and rehashed. If they succeed, maybe we'll see some quicker innovation for the MMO genre instead of the tired "EQ/WoW clones". GW2 is bringing more to the table than any MMO has in years, IMO.
