The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

With WoW getting old, and Swtor being terrible, I have been looking at these upcoming MMO's. I think Tera is going to be very popular with it aim based combat, gorgeous graphics, and interesting races and world. I have also been watching GW2 and know its gonna be very popular and hard to beat with its f2p structure.

My opinions for these:

Tera- Better graphics : Better combat
GW2- F2P : More content potential : Probably better Dev support : Innovative

TBH I will probably be picking up both of these titles.

Holy cow, had no idea it was up to Level 80, that is quite a departure from GW 1 and happy to see this. Thing I never liked about GW 1 was low level cap and it does don't feel or play like a good PvE MMO that has a high level cap. Hopefully the leveling process is fresh and exciting and truly open world like WoW and no invisible fences like GW 1?

Tera's combat looked pretty bad from what I've seen. You use an attack and you're rooted in place until the attack animation is finished. GW2 you are mobile the entire time which means faster-paced combat. GW2's combat is pretty much Action-RPG style with dodging, like Invictus. Tera also seems to have the "talk to NPC, get quest. Do quest, turn it back in" style of questing, which GW2 has none of (as of latest beta, according to Mike B aka Fony) aside from the Personal Story. I haven't seen enough of Tera to comment on the graphics. I also don't want to get into comparing the two other than what I've already said because I don't know that much about Tera, honestly.

Official Dev Blog update by Eric Flannum (Lead Game Designer).

Cliffs:

- 4th skill in downed state is now a channeled healing ability so you can res yourself if not being attacked and when no one happens to be around to res you.
- A piece of gear is damaged when you are defeated, and broken after multiple deaths. Gear is not damaged by normal wear and tear, only when defeated.
- Can now zoom in/out on the compass, and pan it around by right-clicking and dragging. It will return to your character's position on release. (thanks OldManPsylus)
- You can also ping/draw lines on the compass to alert players, like in GW1. (Lots of penis drawings when in a group).
- Meta-events: Dynamic Events that tell the story of the area (or "zone") you're in. May require multiple groups of people to finish, a quarter of the map may be affected.
- Hidden treasures: Treasures scattered throughout the world, requiring precise jumping or defeating enemies guarding it. (like Datacrons in SWTOR and treasures in Rift)
- Certain Boons and Conditions tweaked. Lots of changes here, probably better off viewing the page to see the changes. They also plan on making boons and conditions more noticeable.

Agreed. I don't want to derail this thread, I just wanted to stat that I have high hopes for both of them.

Ya, that is one pretty retarded thing about TERA and I noticed it right away. Everyone is running around and stopping while they fight is pretty silly.

Aion is goin F2p this spring..with version 3.0 that adds 5 more levels, instances, housing

its in direct competition with TERA..they had a lawsuit against them for stealing intellectual property..oh and tera has a release date of may 1st...coincidence??!!

now, my lvl 55 aion sorc has been collecting dust for almost a year.....i'll log in and play for free instead of buying and subbing for tera...well played ncsoft...well played...i see what you did there...besides, once you played a korean grind mmo, you've played them all...lol

it'll have to occupy me till gw2 hits...cuz swtor left me cold after a month..i still can't believe people play that game anymore

Might make you stop spamming abilities huh? Might make you aim a little better, and besides there will be stats for speeding up animation times. Only class that gets "stuck" in an animation is the berserker, which is why they get the big crits in endgame.

Actually one of the problems with TERA in Korea is that it is that it is not enough of a korean grind style.

I'll go hardcore, I'll play GW2, sub TERA and play Aion. Just need to buy another laptop :p

The best videos to watch of people that aren't complete idiots, and really the only worthwhile videos so far, are:

TotalBiscuit's Guardian Staff/Hammer Gameplay
Mike B's Mesmer PVP
Mike B's Overview of GW2
*Yogscast Norn [1] [2] [3] [4] // Charr [1] [2] [3]

And then if you're curious about exploration:

Mike B's tour of Divinity Reach (Human city)
Mike B's tour of Black Citadel (Charr city)
Mike B's tour of Hoelbrak (Norn city)
Jumping Puzzle

*The Yogscast ones are probably my favorite. Just two guys experiencing the game together from the start. Entertaining, informative, and funny.

This shit is shaping up nicely. Everything I've seen so far has been positive. I'm betting we hear of a another beta weekend very soon.

This may be the first collector's edition I buy since Bioshock 1 (for that statue of course :D). I hope they announce what they plan to put in the CE if they do sell one. I need to go back to GW1 and keep collecting HoM points.

I learned two new things so far from all the coverage:
1) Gear durability is only lowered when you die. Instead of overall damage taken. Which for me means less time going to repairing if I play smart.
2) Queue Lines: If your server is full, you get the option to take your characters to a temporary overflow server to play on. Everything you do there will get transferred to your main server when you reach the end of the queue.

I am curious about this. I cant check Facebook at work. Is there a new anouncement today?

Glad I caught this and luckily I work from home so I was able to use their tool to send the dxdiag.

I wonder if having a high end machine or 5760 resolution plays a factor in being selected.

It might. From my experience they try to select computers covering the whole spectrum, from the $3500 dollar top of the line computers down to the $199 Best Buy bargain bin special.

Thats why I keep Teamviewer installed at home :p

I signed up, but didnt get the confirmation email.

When I first signed up, there was a way to request a second confirmation email, but that does not seem to be there any more.

If I can somehow get in it'll be like :
images

Finally, I get a beta invite to a game I want to play! Now to just get home so I can send them my diagnostic...

How long does it take to get the confirmation email? I signed up earlier today and haven't gotten one...

i got a "Thanks for Signing Up" email within a minute after signing up.

Just because you get the confirmation, doesn't mean your in the beta.

i didn't get a signup confirmation on my gmail account :(

me either. I tried doing it again and it said email was already registered though so I guess it worked.

I'm also a little bummed that the diagnostic tool didn't recognize SLI, it only shows 1 570 for me.

I know your rig doesn't really guarantee you to get in, but I feel like people with multi gpu is a smaller pool to pick from and something they would need to test, so I thought that might help.

Oh well, not holding my breath, I never get into these damn things.

"The karma is a resource you can’t trade. It’s used to buy some equipment and crafting goods. For instance, as a cook, I can buy all the flour and water I want with money. But some ingredients, like cooking oil and salt, cost karma. This is how Guild Wars 2 gates the economy so that you can’t just buy your way into everything. Karma, like experience points, comes from playing."
