The Nintendo Switch 2 Thread

Another new feature for the Switch 2, which concerns the USA, is a change to the terms of use. If you use pirated or modified games, Nintendo can remotely disable your console. And you have to agree to this after turning on the console for the first time. Another thing is that buyers in the US are no longer allowed to sue Nintendo collectively, they will be able to file a lawsuit, but only individually.
Just need someone to buy a console, then sue nintendo because they can't use their purchased console without agreeing to terms that they don't agree with.

Lots of nintendo haters. In my opinion, nintendo has always been very useful for kids, their games are very demanding, you need fast fingers and intelligence, I tried some of their old games on a Chinese console and they are very demanding, some I don't even understand what I have to do.

Nintendo are a bunch of jerk wards, but I love their products. Most of these companies are filled with jerk wards. It is what it is.

Well. It's your money. :p

Now me personally ever since windows 7 pro 64 bit I waited for Service pack 1 or main patches for anything and everything.

You know so they can get the MASSES for Free to fix their crap. Instead of legit paying staff and workers to do what they are susposed to do.

They want a legal out for what happened with the original Switch that was easily modded.

I got an e-mail from Nintendo saying my original pre-order from before the tariff pause is still in place and I should still be able to order providing supplies last until they get to my spot in the presumed queue I'm in. So we'll see if I'll get it, otherwise I'm good with waiting after launch to get it at some point.

The Switch 2 in dock mode has a GPU comparable to a GTX 1050Ti, but in handheld mode it drops to a GTX 750Ti.

I know it's fun to take these numbers at face value to laugh at, but no reasonably informed person would do so here. A quick search shows 750ti can only run Doom 2016 at 720p at 40-50 fps with medium/low IQ settings, whereas it already runs on the original Switch at 720p/30, albeit with some dips as well but it actually does hold at 30 most of the time. Similar story with other games like Wolfenstein 2 and Witcher 3. So no reasonable person would think the Switch 2's Ampere based SoC would only bring these titles up another 15-20 fps to match a 750ti in portable mode. The don't think the Steam Deck would play CP2077 at equivalent settings of the S2 port at anywhere near 30 FPS either without some muddy FSR upscaling that looks and performs much worse than the DLSS the S2 is using.

whereas it already runs on the original Switch at 720p/30,
First switch was running Doom 2016 at 360p-612p dynamic resolution in handheld mode I think.

Going to 720p at 40fps min would be about pushing 5 time more pixel, a bit stronger than a PS4 in handeld mode, +80% in dock mode is not necessarily bad ?

NUmber floating around are 3 tflops docked, 1.71 tflops handheld, PS4 had a 1.84 tflops GPU, the series S at the top of the graph a 4 tflops one.

Will have to see if DLSS can be used, they are 2021 chips, maybe it is too much and the starting res for the dlss version when those decision were made too low to be good (540p native DLSS could have rought with old CNN models), if it does not use DLSS i wonder what they would do with all those tensor core power... Will have to see if it will be used, specially for title that will need to run a really low native res.

That slowed down 2050 is also what digital foundry use to estimate the switch potential.

I freakin' hate Nintendo, but the whole pirated/modded thing doesn't bother me at all. Not like I'm going to be playing modded or bootleg carts on native hardware anyway. Hopefully it'll ease up the rampant mods/cheats that plagued online Mario Kart and Smash on the Switch 1.

After their update to the EULA, and their belief that you don't own the console, this will be the first Nintendo system that I don't buy.

Yeah, not really feeling it either. The game pricing is the biggest turn off, but the EULA shenanigans aren't helping. I think game keycard 'spoofing' will be an issue and could see bans being sent out in error due to legitimate keycards being spoofed online.

I'll probably pick up one at some point (my current backlog is huge, so upgraded ToTK can wait) but if I can hold out for a OLED or a non-hybrid traditional game console, that would be ideal.

I had very little intrest in s S2 to begin with but after all this anticonsumer practices I completely lost all intrest in it. O ly game i am intrested in is MP4 and I'll just play it on the S1.

Our Walmart just cleared the old Xbox section it already has Nintendo Switch 2 clamshell cases and game time cards for online services. I asked jokingly about Nintendo Switches being available already to the dept Lead as she was trying to figure out what to do with a dozen Xbox series S systems. Electronics is no joke to work in. I won't buy one until the OLED version comes out I hardly use my Switch been playing PC games. Guy in produce said games are going to be 80.00 which is ok if you can afford them but it's going to make game collections smaller. When that PS6 is announced I'll be the last person not to buy one. Exclusives have become a joke nothing even worth it. PS3 was the last best exclusive console.

Just for kicks tried my luck at pre-ordering from best buy and got lucky.

Even though I've owned every Nintendo console since SNES, this will be my first time buying one at launch.

On paper, I'm a little underwhelmed, especially with the launch titles. Feel like Donkey Kong should have been a available on release day.

I guess I'll see how Mario Kart holds up. If I find myself not playing the S2 much after two weeks, I'll return/sell it

One of my step sons works at the local Best Buy. They're doing the midnight thing and getting non preorder consoles. He's gonna snag me one if he can then.

Just asked the receiving guy said they got 26 Nintendos Switch 2s in yesterday but they are taking orders online as well as in store.

Comes out in 3 days saw a cart in the back said street date the 5th. It was a bunch of controllers and stuff all official Nintendo stuff. Nintendo is probably more profitable than PS and Xbox due to almost every game being exclusive plus the kid marketing.

For the first time in more than 20 years, there will be no pre-release reviews for a new Nintendo console

According to a company spokesperson, Nintendo decided not to send Switch 2 review units to press ahead of launch because “important features and updates” will only be available via a system update on the day of the console’s official release, on June 5

Don't want to read too much into this, but doesn't sound promising.

The system is set to launch tomorrow night with midnight launches so we should know soon how the new system holds up.

Some people have gotten their hands on one already, but nothing can be done with them until the day 1 update is installed. Hobbyists have tried checking mod potential, but any probing of the hardware bricks the console and Nintendo can see if it was messed with if you try to send it in for repair or replacement.

Not looking good but we know the scalpers are tools . Supply will be up I hope even if I'm not buying.

My spitball on the wall on why no press is getting it early is I bet that the backwards compatibility for the OG Switch games isn't quite ready and they're trying to fix as much as they can for the day 1 patch. The press would probably dump all over Nintendo if that feature didn't launch right. A lot of why I want it is the Mario, Zelda, and Metroid OG Switch games in 4K60. Who knows really tho.

Preordered Switch 2, Mario kart, screen protector and case for 789 bucks. What a fucking ripoff.

Wow that's a lot. Same items here in tbe US would come to $539 before tax
Nintendo doesn’t have an official presence here so everyone is a scalper. I paid a bit extra for warranty etc. otherwise could’ve gotten it for like 700$. And this includes all taxes. Also now I see that it is sold out everywhere and you can buy unit only for 700$.

Besides Mario Kart, what day one games are you guys/gals looking at picking up?

I might jump back into Pokémon with Scarlet since it seems a lot of performance issues have been resolved playing on Switch 2. Have not played a mainline Pokémon game since Gold but could be a nice dose of nostalgia
