The Nintendo Switch 2 Thread

The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom look amazing at 4k HDR. I hope Super Mario Wonder, Metroid Dread, and The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD get an updates too. This is what I've been waiting for from Nintendo. The games look so much better.

Zelda games definitely look amazing. Finally feels like they embraced 2017 era.

Really enjoying the new mario kart, played a bit of free roam then did a couple of rounds with my wife&kids. Had zero idea about the new power ups or what they did, we had an absolute blast figuring it out on the fly.

Been playing the new Mario Kart World, its amazing. Couldn't believe how fun the 20+ player online racing was too. Got sucked into like 4-6 games in a row. Very challenging & fun.

Do PowerA wired controllers from Switch 1 work on the 2?

Still debating if even want it or not before opening it.

My review of switch 2. I think my son would enjoy it and I bought it for him so that is fine.

Overall, still an underpowered console. We are looking at PS4 era fidelity or less. Screen size is good but overall it’s a meh LCD. Somehow the brightness on Switch 1 felt higher when we put Zelda on both consoles next to each other. A total wtf moment for me as we were trying to match same location and time of day on both consoles.

No games to play. Mario Kart is a good time but once you have done the few tracks and did the combos across tracks that’s it. There is not much else there. Free roam seems like an afterthought as well as finding a mission and completing is a painful task with no sense of what to do or where to go.

Because of no games to play, I don’t think I will touch it anytime soon. Btw any game not upgraded still plays like crap. I tried Bayonetta on it and it was still running 30 fps on a 120 Hz screen so not a good time.

Overall a decent 5/10. 10/10 for son’s happiness. He is trying to play Zelda again since I got him the upgrade for 8 pounds. But his time on switch is also way lower than what I expected. I think they really botched the release without first party titles. I know a few people selling theirs already and going to “wait it out” or get that “OLED in 2 years” and I don’t blame them.

Are you sure? I thought all Bayonetta's aim for 60fps on the original switch, with only the third one not able to keep performance mostly at that framerate.

As I understand it, the dynamic resolution should also automatically adapt to the more powerful hardware, giving you better image quality.

I don’t know, I didn’t check frame rates myself and only tried Bayonetta 1. It was as blurry and slow as I remember it on switch. Maybe I need to dock it to see the improvements you are referring to.

Thinking about returning/selling my S2 after using it a few days now. Mario Kart is fun, but it is getting a bit too repetitive. I might pick up another unit next month if Donkey Kong releases with positive reviews.

Really shocked Nintendo felt only one proper exclusive was enough to release at launch.

Just keep really wtf is wrong with you people. Prices are not coming down anytime soon nor is a OLED switch 2. Games will come.

Agreed. The Zelda’s with better fidelity is nice, but a single title at release is pretty lame. Should have launched with Mario kart, the new donkey Kong, and prime 4 bare minimum.

I understand prices won't come down anytime soon, but I don't want to keep it just for the console to sit in it's dock unused.

Whenever there is a game I actually want to sit down and put hours into I'll buy one. Perhaps Donkey Kong will be that game, but if that ends up being a dud I don't see any games being released that interest me for sometime.

How much? Lol

Games are tied to your Nintendo account now aren't they...? I know at least at one time they weren't. I dunno, it's been forever since Nintendo had a new machine. If it's account-based, you could probably sell a Mario Kart Switch for the cost of a regular non-bundled one knowing that you have the game in your library. If it's tied to the machine, I guess you'd just want to make sure all your account info is off the Switch when you sell it. They're still available off the shelf where I am, so prices are probably flat.

I still haven't been able to play mine. I've been stuck on the other side of the country for 6 weeks, but with some luck I'll finally be home this weekend. I waited 11 years for a new Mario Kart, so another few days won't kill me.

Nintendo did promise there would be plenty of stock at release. Not having a huge must-have games at the same time might have been somewhat intentional to get the initial rush out of the way then release games a little later to keep inventory available? 🤷

Bros your opinions are invalid. Nintendo sold almost 4 M consoles in 4 days lol.

McDonalds has served over how many billions of people? Doesn't mean their food is any good..

You forget how many mindless sheep are out there these days who run out to buy something so they can brag to their friends they were first (when they really werent) or jump on the bandwagon...or just have more money than sense....

I would equate these to the same people who pre-buy AAA games months before, and then complain when the game sucks, buggy, doesn't perform, missing things they said they would have..... then when the next version comes out, they do the same dam thing...

I agree with you re: Trip-A slop, but people are buying the Switch 2 because they like Nintendo and know what to expect from Nintendo, and normies LOVE Nintendo. When I say Normies, I don't mean "your friends who don't know how to build computers" I mean the people who don't know how to type because they haven't had a computer (not even a laptop) in their house since the iPhone 4.

I know people who don't even have an internet connection at home because they only use their phone. People who haven't replaced their TV in 15 years. Normal people who can't name the current Xbox or PlayStation consoles, or be able to recognise them.

Those normies LOVE Nintendo.

To be fair, I love Nintendo, and appreciate their first party releases.

But with this release, I feel like they could have launched one of their first play solo player releases to keep my attention as opposed to one Mario Kart game and nothing else on day one

I mean, for me, when the Nintendo DS came out, it had an awful series of launch titles. It was months before there was a game on it that I enjoyed. But by the end, the DS was one of my favorite systems. So, I don't judge a system by its launch titles.

That said, there's no need for most people to purchase one if they don't see any games they want. We'll see how they play out. But at least for me, Nintendo has been the only device with games worth playing over the past decade.

Scalpers are getting them pretty much instantly. There have been multiple online restocks on AAFES, and that doesn’t really have a bot/scalper problem for obvious reasons. I would suspect that come mid July it won’t be scalped anymore though since supply is so heavy. Pretty similar to the OG switch availability timeline.

Costco had some yesterday online, I managed to get one in the cart but then said item was out of stock grrr.

i haven't been on [H] in a solid 5 years. maybe longer... that said, the general internet is too angsty and likes to argue about everything. i remember this place being better.

that out the way - i didn't even think i'd be getting a switch 2. went to target to get something unrelated and saw a little line/commotion back in the back area. walked over. walked out with a s2 and pro controller and $640 less dollars.

guess i own a switch 2 now?
