The Nintendo Switch 2 Thread

Hopefully this doesn't affect our eerily attractive neighbors to the north.

I know like what the fuck does that even imply? I am sick of the ambiguity and jargon. Our hobby is under siege! If you have something to say about it, spit it out already.

He also claims to be from Canada, but he says "our neighbors to the North." Why does every post have to be so incoherent?
Because lying is rampant online.

oof. my nintendo playing friends aint happy. looking like $650 for the unit and $100+ for games up here in canuckistan....

Oh no, I slipped up and showed my Canadian hand. I felt a strange satisfaction in calling myself attractive in a coy manner - it's probably a Canadian thing. No offense meant, Sirs! (Blackstone and Armenius ) :-/

But, yeah, I was showing $629 and $699 CAD when I signed up on Nintendo's site. Hopefully the stuff going on in the US won't affect the pricing up here. If the tariffs brought the price to 650 USD in US, but the price remained 650 CAD, it'd be crazy not for Americans to come up here and buy the Switch then bring it back to the US (assuming they could claim it under their personal exemption to USCBP). Now if Nintendo bumps the CAD price so its parity with a tariff increased US price - that'd be a firm 'no' for me (it would be PS5 Pro pricing at that point).

Nintendo confirms you will have to pay to use the Switch 2’s C button

https://www.polygon.com/nintendo-switch-2/553458/switch-2-nintendo-confirms-c-button-price

"But unless you have an active NSO membership, you’ll have a whole button dedicated to nothing on your Switch 2. It doesn’t even sound like you can remap it to something else. It will just be a reminder of the annual $19.99 fee you may or may not be handing to Nintendo every year (or $49.99 for the Expansion Pack).
Trinen says the C button has a price tag because GameChat is “part of the overall platform experience” and that “NSO really is a critical piece of the Nintendo Switch 2 experience.” He listed off some of the new Switch 2-exclusive benefits, like access to old GameCube games and free upgrades to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom."

Guess Switch 2 is off the table for me. NSO is not something I'm interested in -- got enough subs without that.

Edit: to be clear, not because of the "c" button, but because "NSO really is a critical piece of the Nintendo Switch 2 experience," and I don't find much value in that.

So what is the new price for the switch after China Tariffs?

$∞, unless the rumor that they delayed it was false. You probably won't get one while the shins are going on, and honestly that should be one of your least concerns.

Just tell me when and where to pre-order the damn thing and I'll do it. I'm an idiot who likes to play Mario Kart, Smash, and Fromsoft games. Plus, I still have money I was originally planning on using for a 5090. 🤷‍♂️

I think for America has been delayed, for Europe and everyone else has already been sold, as far as I can see for preorder can only participate those who already have a nintendo account, games, how many games have, how many play, etc., there are criteria for preorder switch2.
Go to the page and get information, invitations are distributed and then with that invitation you have the right to preorder switch 2 console.

I just got 3 grand back from my taxes. I should be able to afford whatever the Nintendo Tariff 2 is going to cost ... maybe.

There are definitely going to be US pre-orders at Amazon, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. etc. at some point. Hell, maybe even tomorrow. I dunno. It's just a matter of when, how much, and how many they have to go around. I just know that I want to lock one down and not face anything like the PS5 or 50-series launches. If/when I do I'll probably take a few days off of work around the launch day. Gotta get my Kart on after settling for MK8 for so long.

I skipped the switch 1, so I'm chomping at the bit to get the switch 2. :D

how does one get so much money back? I always have to pay hundreds (I'm very low-middle-class)

I'm also excited for switch 2, wasn't so much for #1... that price though, ouch!

It depends on how you file, itemizations, etc. Depending on your philosophy, getting $ isn't always what you want. It can essentially mean the government was holding your money all year.

Write offs.

Can often mean just someone with a 401k without making all the steps (adjusting the w-4 form and what not so you do not get overwithhold on your paycheck) to get its money all along versus at the end. Also you can build an habbit of getting return and liking it like that...

Polishing a turd is not going to make it into a good game.
I know it at first feels cool to be a contrarian, but after their age stops starting with a "1" people tend to grow self-awareness to know that the "edgy contrarian who hates things other people like" is not a good look. I would advise to take ownership of your opinions instead of stating them as fact, such as:

I wasn't a big fan of BOTW, and by extension TOTK. I enjoyed both games but honestly they never felt like a "Zelda" game. TOTK definitely felt BETTER, with dungeon variety and ever-so-slightly less weapon breaking.... but overall the story progression, character progression, map progression all felt incredibly muted. Like you never REALLY felt you were making progress or growing into something, combat was ALWAYS frustrating and not satisfying no matter how powerful you got, and HUGE, EPIC MOMENTS in the story would be bookended by a total lack of urgency or consequence in the open world collecting apples or something.

Overall I think there is a LOT they could do to improve on the formula, but I would like to see a "return to basics" and a new classic 3D Zelda game like OOT, MM, TTP or SS

I am not trying to be edgy or a contrarian. I been a Zelda fan since the original on the NES. I even loved part 2. The series started losing it's luster to me around TP cause I was getting tired of the same formula and didn't even make it past the 2nd dungeon in Skyward Sword. I wanted something different and it wasn't BotW. It just seems people give it and Nintendo too much of a pass nowadays. Like they have to love everything they release no matter how mediocre it is.

I think we agree mostly, but I found them fun but not to the wonder of the originals.

I found BOTW to be quite good, but still massively overrated. If there weren't so many people calling it the greatest game of all time for some reason, that wouldn't even sound weird.

I enjoyed my time with BOTW - the durability system being the biggest negative about the game for me (besides the system's performance in the Master Sword grove.) I thought the story was well done too, and very bleak for a Nintendo game. Looking back at it now, I can see Elden Ring being inspired quite a bit by BOTW.

I'm curious to see how these tariffs are going to affect Nintendo - if their S2 hardware adoption is slow due to the tariffs, are we going to see Nintendo bring their software to other platforms or would they extend the life of Switch1 and focus on cross-generational software? Depending on how things play out, I won't be surprised if one of the existing hardware manufacturers goes the way of Sega.

was good, not greatest of all time. i got stuck at ganon and never finished it though...

thought those where still on pause or taken of most electronics?

AFAIK the pause was on the reciprocal tariffs, and that the smaller (20% iirc) tariffs still apply on electronics. I could be totally wrong, though - I've been trying to keep up with the trade stuff but it's confusing and the numbers make my head hurt.

To buy or not to buy just the console for 510 euros? The question now is, what would you do? And the ps5 with a bluray reader is 550 euros.
Blackstone how will it work on a 4k OLED when there is no power for 4k resolution
You can put it on an OLED TV, but you can't put it on 4K when there's no power.

I've already pre-ordered, I'll keep it in the box a while... if it becomes a hot commodity and is out of stock for a while, I'll put it up on ebay.

If it's volume is high enough and there's no shortage, I'll enjoy Mario Kart and Donkey Kong 😊

If the joycons weren't connected magnetically I would probably pre-order it, I won't buy it like this
