Yeah I would like to see something like the style from Mario WonderAt least there won't be any name-induced confusion about what it is.
Bigger issue is that I'm seeing zero esthetic improvement in that kart game. It'll be all fancy raytraced and deeply learned superbly sampled, I'm sure, but to me it still looks like the tired old wii u version we got on the switch.
LOL. I was giving my son a bath and told him that the Switch 2 was coming, I mentioned that there will be a new Mario Kart game and he said that it'll probably have cool graphics. That brief moment from the Switch 2 trailer flashed in my mind and I told him that it probably won't look much better than Mario Kart 8.At least there won't be any name-induced confusion about what it is.

The Switch can be great for for 3rd party titles if you play to its strengths as a good indie 2D or 1st-5th gen console (N64/PS1 era) port/remaster device. Switch 2 should extend that out to 8th gen (PS4/Xbone). There's tons of titles I missed in those gens, so I appreciate when those ports come so I can play them on the go. I just hope the Switch 2 isn't much bigger than the current one so it's not Steam Deck sized or something, losing that advantage over current PC handhelds. As with all Nintendo hardware, I don't want one. What I do want is more Mario Kart, Smash, Mario Party, Mario Golf, etc. so I'm gonna have to buy one. I'm just going to hope they aren't too tough to find and they aren't that expensive. I have the money to pay whatever they're asking, but I hate spending money on something I know it going to collect dust between major releases.

Since they're dropping the OLED display, I hope they at least put a good IPS in it and also support VRR so when games inevitably dip below 60 it can help out a bit. But not counting on VRR support at all and would be surprised if it does.
Fair enough. I don't think Nintendo would fair as well trying to compete with with Playstation and (dying) Xbox in that class of hardware though. They've been way too successful with the Switch and previous portable consoles. And personally I have no issues going from 4k/120Hz on my PC to 720/30 on my Switch either. So I'm by no means a PCMR guy despite enjoying PC hardware and versatility. The thing is, I don't really want another portable system (especially not a giant one that isn't really portable) and I don't want re-releases or last-gen remasters of old games, either. What I really want is Mario Kart running in 4K at 120 frames per second via actually viable network play. Smash, Mario Party, Metroid, Mario Golf, etc. too. There are tons of Nintendo titles I love that are being hamstrung by Nintendo's underpowered hardware and a horrible online experience. That doesn't seem to be changing, but I'll at least hope they can improved the online portion. Still, with so many people playing on the go via shaky-ass Wi-Fi networks I don't know if that's ever going to get better.
I just hope it’s a decent IPS with zone dimming. It’ll be a huge display downgrade if it isn’t. I’ll buy day 1 regardless if Switch titles like TOTK get a resolution / fps upgrade. If they don’t I’m going to skip as it initially will be a downgrade from the switch OLED if the old games run exactly the same anyways. I’m also not sure if I like the bigger size. It’s already big enough if used mobile IMO.Nothing ever changes. They are launching in 2025 with 4 year old hardware. At first it will seem very capable, but ultimately it will not keep pace with PC handhelds for third-party titles.
It is a must own product for first party titles but if the launch title is mario kart, i’ll probably hold off for a year for an oled model. If Metroid Prime 4 is enhanced by it, however, I probably won’t be able to resist.
It is of course a ridiculous amount of power to apply toward first-party titles. We’ve never had a Nintendo this spec’d, and we’re guaranteed at least a few spectacular titles.
Hey hey hey. I liked Far Cry on the Wii.I don't want the Switch 2's hardware to drag down the other console ports, either. We're probably going to be back in the boat of the PS/XB/PC getting the "real" version of a multiplatform game and Nintendo getting some weird alternate version made by another studio.
It's NOT going to have zone dimming. In fact I'd be surprised if it's HDR at all.I just hope it’s a decent IPS with zone dimming. It’ll be a huge display downgrade if it isn’t. Pretty much. I think 720p makes better sense for mobile though, so I doubt they'll even do 1080p for it. I'm going to be pretty annoyed if they price this at $400 with an LCD though. As I think at that price they could easily put an OLED in while still making a decent profit on the console. It's kinda insane the original Switch never got a price drop too.. That thing prolly costs $40/piece to make now, lol. It's NOT going to have zone dimming. In fact I'd be surprised if it's HDR at all.
Nintendo is not about creating cutting-edge or anything beyond the bare minimum to produce a unique experience. No sense trying to compete with the AMOLED screens in every pocket attached to devices that cost $1K +.
Instead, Nintendo sourced a basic 1080p screen that probably costs less than $20 per unit and sell it in a device that will cost around $300 and make a profit.
The Switch 2 will probably be quite expensive, it seems to me (500 euros). And their AAA games are also expensive. It should be quite powerful in terms of hardware because it will also play Xbox games (on TV). These are just my predictions. What will happen with the old switch 1, will they continue to produce it, reduce the price, I have no idea.Pretty much. I'd rather have a 3DS successor with full backward compatibility. The thing is, I don't really want another portable system (especially not a giant one that isn't really portable) and I don't want re-releases or last-gen remasters of old games, either. There's not a single non-portable console that have games offering that kind of experience. The thing is, I don't really want another portable system (especially not a giant one that isn't really portable) and I don't want re-releases or last-gen remasters of old games, either. I'll believe it when I see it. Rumors about it have been flying around for many years. I believe it as much as that oblivion UE remake that will supposedly release imminently. Some coincidences around the net suggest that Final Fantasy 9 remake will be shown with Switch 2. May be a timed exclusive.
I hope the upgrade packs aren't more than $10, I own Breath of the Wild but put it off because I wanted a smoother experience, so I'll be going the upgrade route. I'm surprised that 4K is an option, but judging by the graphics, it looks like they probably keep detail low to make 4K playable. Think I'll stick with 1080p.
LCD screen![]()
And optional mouse control.Metroid Prime 4 4K 60fps HDR. Sold!
Yeah no kidding Landfill Material no reason to buy one. OLED is the only way to go.LCD screen![]()
European ones are up, looks like 4/8/2025 (edit: that's for EU apparently, for the USA it is 4/9) preorder date and a tag of 470 euros, so around $450 in the US. Kinda was already expecting a $400 price tag, so I'll still get it.They might be doing a CYA with tariffs and pricing. They mentioned that the Switch 2 site will launch today with more details, so we might get a look at the price tags then. Since MK is a 100% must-buy for me, I definitely want that bundle. I'll hope pre-orders aren't as sudden and chaotic as the PS5.
This may be the most lame console launch in Nintendo’s history, frankly.
Yes, on per game basis and you have to pay for the update.I'm going to assume any Switch 1 titles will need a software update to unlock the framerate? Something tells me everything out-of-the-box will be 30fps limited.
Quite a weak launch title list. The new FromSoft IP, The Duskbloods, might draw some people though whenever it launches.
Pay? Hah! Why am I not surprised?Yes, on per game basis and you have to pay for the update.
