The Nintendo Switch 2 Thread

Apparently there will be 7 MILLION units available at launch…but what game will launch with it?

Everything currently available! Seriously though, I'm sure they'll have quite a few new ones for launch.

Next Joycon controller but it looks the same if you ask me bigger buttons? I hate using the joy cons make me numb.
I agree 100%. I am guessing they are aware of the issue and will make some small ergonomic tweaks. My hands go numb 100% of the time playing in handheld mode.

I think there is a real danger of this machine being a failure, frankly, if it doesn’t have an aesthetic that is unique. They don’t need to reinvent the wheel but if they play it too safe, only the hardcore fans will upgrade. As much as I am fine with a slightly more ergonomic, upgraded switch, that is going to be a hard sell.

I basically only use the joycons on trips. The pro controller is clearly superior to joycons, and I use the SNES controller on any game I can. I think it's not to hard to use other system's controllers these days, too, although you usually miss out on remote power on.

The system is leaked on Video Cardz what it looks like but would have to take multiple screenshots. There is a robar in the back looks like metal to prop up the system.

Probably not a launch time buy for me, but I do enjoy the platform and will probably upgrade whenever they have software that needs the new hardware.

You who play and only love Nintendo, what games (sequels) does Nintendo usually make for a new console? Or is there no rule?
As far as I follow, Nintendo is the best for Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda.
The new Legend of Zelda certainly won't because they made it recently and there are several versions.
And from what I see, Nintendo is focusing mostly on these handheld consoles games and not on TV games.

Super Mario Odyssey came out in 2017 - so there could be a new 3D Mario game for the system launch (which would be huge). I'm not expecting a new Zelda title, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's an enhanced TotK port released for the S2.

I'm curious whether Nintendo will entirely abandon Switch1 releases, or go for the 'dual platform' support Sony went with during the PS5 launch (PS4 and enhanced PS5 releases).

I'll only buy it if we get a new Mario Kart or new 2D Metroid with high res hand drawn or 3D assets.

I held off on a switch all this time (a couple of years, for some reason I thought the switch was older than it is) waiting for the switch 2 :(. I'm definitely getting one, and a bunch of switch games to play on it alongside whatever new stuff comes out (hopefully a 3d Mario).

I had Mario kart 8 on my wii u ;), so agreed a new one is due.

So, you play all those Nintendo Switch games on the go? Is the Nintendo Switch bad for TV? It doesn't have good joysticks like xbox and ps?

That Metroid is coming out in 2025.

Per pretty much all the leakers, apparently they really are gonna call this thing the Switch 2. Go figure.
As always, I don't actually even want the system. I simply want a new Mario Kart and a new Smash and the console is just the means to an end. Hopefully it's cheap and supports high framerates.

My switch broke a few months back, and I don't want to buy a replacement until the Switch 2 comes out.

a new Mario Kart would be awesome, but honestly I'd want something a BIT more oldschool, with more fault punishing and slightly more random items. MK 8 is very good, and no real complaints, but I think MK Wii was one of the best, and MK64 is still the best of them all.

Smash bros? I don't know if they'll make another one on the Switch 2. Nintendo is weird like that, and I honestly think Sakurai hates his creation, and never wanted it to become something big.

I'm just looking forward to a party machine for when I bring girls over :p

Ever play Mario Kart DS? It's basically like a more modern MK64. Power slides still work via pressing left/right during a drift so better players actually have a legitimate way to outplay people. Everyone still drops races here and there, but I compiled a record of something like 130-15 in online cup races. Removing manual power slide turbos = what took Mario Kart from a kinda random to 1/2 random. Well, that and the motorcycles in MK Wii simply being OP'd as hell. I like MK8 for what it is, but it is loooooooong in the tooth. We've been playing it for 10+ years and no amount of new courses can freshen up the game engine.

With Smash, the entire team has been working on something that they can't talk about for multiple years. They also keep adding/making new Smash Amiibos. You're definitely right that Sakurai isn't sure what make of Smash being a serious competitive thing, but that hasn't stopped him from making a pile of sequels and DLCs. I think he has Harada in his ear, too.

I’m just praying for an OLED model at launch.
Same, but the consensus seems to be there won't be to save on initial manufacturing cost. So I'm just hoping it at least won't be nearly as bad as the base/launch Switch's LCD display.

Nintendo would be foolish to use a LCD display.
I wouldn't consider buying one if they did. I just hope the can crank the refresh in games to something like 90-120hz

There are some really nice LCDs nowadays, and for some people it will be docked at least half the time anyway, so it's not that important. I wouldn't be surprised by an LCD on the initial run.

But because I have a switch already, I'd probably also skip the LCD model if such a thing happens.

You people are not getting a OLED screen. Nintendo likes to keep cost of their console low and not lose money on each sale.

They will go with LCD in the beginning to reduce costs as little as possible and increase profit, and people will buy anyway because it is a new console. They will introduce a more expensive OLED version later.

Can't wait to play Tears of the Kingdom at any kind of stable frame rate! Hnnnnnngggg.

Really they are just going to call it the Switch 2? This going to be the Wii U all over again.

To me this feels more like that rumored Switch 'Pro' refresh from a couple of years back than a new 'console generation'.

Hopefully now they'll clear out their current OLED stock to make way for the S2 and re-introduce their 'Nintendo Selects' (or whatever it was called) program for Switch 1 software.

Video make it feel like that, but it will be one of the biggest console generation upgrade in a very long time if the "leaks" are true, tripling of the memory, 4-5 time the bandwith, triple the graphic (because of just how low powered that previous hardware was..).

Feel a bit like too much success the previous gen to risk it with something new again type of situation, but also a situation where there was probably a lot of low branch fruits about getting much stronger, having much better motion sensor in the controllers and so on and what door it opens for them. They had yet to squeeze what their original idea could do.

Could have been just too much fear, but also easy to imagine not coming up with again a "new" paradigm for a Nintendo console that made sense, VR, full motion, at the price range and family (grandparents, large group play, young kids) lot of what come to mind do not work.

I think the Switch is a fantastic product. Doing a Switch 2 is the correct move. And I am excited to see the capabilities of its new hardware.

However, Its huge.

Hopefully these new Joy-Cons don't get the stupid drift. It looks like they tried improving them in every single way.

At least there won't be any name-induced confusion about what it is.

Bigger issue is that I'm seeing zero esthetic improvement in that kart game. It'll be all fancy raytraced and deeply learned superbly sampled, I'm sure, but to me it still looks like the tired old wii u version we got on the switch.

I didn't even realize it was a new Mario Kart game; It wasn't until your post and looking up comparison videos on Youtube that I realized it was a new game (or at least a preview of a new game). Figured they were just showing off the B/C of the new system.

I wonder if Nintendo will take the Sony route and have cross gen 1st party titles for a couple of years during the transition to Switch 2.
