The Nintendo Switch 2 Thread

I would not like to be in charge of finding a name.

Play station and Iphone/ios marketing people must be glad from time to time to not have that problem.
They could call it the Nintendo Dookie and it would still sell like crack.

I almost said that, but I think with the Wii-U being a pretty sore spot for Nintendo, I'd think they'd be pretty reluctant to bring that identifier back.
That's exactly why they might! /s

We Switch U too! China Brand

I'm picking this up just so I can get better fps in Zelda hopefully. I never like a handheld systems until I bought my first switch. I did like the original Game Boy but my cousins owned one.

Will probably happen soon. Console is over 7 years old so now is about the time it will get replaced. And while not exactly the same market, Steam Deck is going to start eating away at sales if they don't put out something new soon.

Why would it? You can't play Nintendo games on a steam deck (legitimately).

I kinda figured they would go this route, but it's nice to get an official confirmation. It'll probably boost their software sales in the short term, too. You're no longer buying games for a soon-to-be dead system.

Me, too. Backward compatibility has been a thing on handhelds since the Game Boy Advance (the GBC if you want to get technical, I guess). I think the only reason for no DS/3DS BC on the Switch was due to the second screen. BC has been a thing on their consoles since the Wii. Now the question is if the Virtual Console will carry over or will Nintendo's greed want everybody to purchase their games again for the fourth time.

Believe it or not, for some people nintendo games are just not system sellers.
That's true! Not everyone likes them.

But... Enough people do like them that Nintendo can sell an outdated tablet in the game console market and outsell all of its console powerhouse competitors combined.

Steam deck is awesome, but comparing a steam deck to a Switch is like comparing a nice motorbike to a family sedan. They may accomplish the same thing from a total outside perspective but they are completely different experiences that merit completely different markets.

I can't say much because I've never had a single console, but nintendo should only switch to TV, no hybrid modes, etc.
Same as before when it was nintendo nes e.g.
For some sort of portable gaming they might make a new game boy or something.
But it will probably be nothing, it will probably be the same as the switch with slightly newer hardware.Money, sony, xbox, etc. are obviously always in the game.

I dunno, this hybrid approach seems to have worked well for them (consolidating their development teams to focus on one platform). I would love to see extra horsepower for docked mode (perhaps a enhanced dock that also does processing).

I know, that hybrid mode is great because it's obviously what players are looking for, playing on the go and anywhere, they won't change anything, it'll just be slightly stronger hardware. And in third countries, an affordable price(cheaper than ps5 and xbox) is also important.
I personally would just want something like nes.

I wonder if they're considering a compute module in the dock...bus speeds should be fast enough for it, especially if they take advantage of nvidia's more recent technology (or switch to an amd solution, but I doubt that happens this gen).

The existing switch has twice the clock speeds of portable mode, when docked, due to the extra power available. I imagine the switch 2 will do the same.

Completely disagree. Combining their two markets into one was a MASSIVE win. Someone like me NEVER used their switch in portable mode, while others only ever used their switch in portable mode, but we both play the same games and can talk about the same experiences and trade cartridges.

This move was such a W that other competitors are wondering how they could do the same. I could imagine Sony wondering how they're going to squeeze a PS5 into a tablet.

Yep. Personally, I'll be using it both ways, it's a huge factor as to why I want one.

Why would anyone by a switch for anything but Nintendo's first party games.

I noticed lots of Nintendo's games look identical to each other jumping platformers. If Nintendo does get a 3D game like Borderlands 3 it lags due to the Switch's performance unless it's optimized game like Metroid Prime. So I'm hoping the performance help with different types of games.

Indeed, this is mostly true. But if an old game or very light game is ported to Switch, I tend to prefer it there. Recently the Tomb Raider remasters, Dave the Diver, and the Doom Ports I play on Switch since they're basically identical on any other platform.

Played hades on there, got the physical release, was lovely.

I don't understand, switch is mainly bought for children and has a big sale because it is cheaper than sony and microsoft.

Majority of people playing on a Nintendo Switch are in the 19-24 demo, and the distribution stays high as the gamers get older. Note that this is different from the purchasing demo, which showed that most buyers are in the 25-34 age range.
