The New EVE: Apocrypha

I go out and complete the rest of the missions I was on and wouldnt ya just know it......After I complete mission 10, what is one of the prizes I recieve? You guessed it, ANOTHER Tristan. I could have saved my isk had I known I was going to be given one. Gahhh, LOL.

I did the EXACT same thing on the same missions as you. I still have both merlin's, too even though I moved onto the Comorant.

You know your getting old when you have a hard time remembering something you did 8 times in a row.

To answer your question Mr. RuptureX, heh, no, I do not recall the name of the mission I was on. Im doing missions from both Clennion (bad spelling, I know) and Cisterant (again, bad spelling, I know) and the one Im on right now has 10 parts to it, the 8th part being the one I got killed on (but, I at least completed the mission before I got blown up :) )

I will start making it a point to write some of this info down next time when I know im going to ask some questions. Logging in now....WOOHOO!!!

Lol my tristan was blown up trying to warp out to repair on that exact same mission.. hahaha thats funny :p

considering reactivating my account, I started to get into it about a year ago but I stopped. Did they fix anti-aliasing?

Edit: After searching, found its done by disabling HDR in-game and enabling AA in your driver control panel.

When should someone worry about joining a corp? I just started today, should I just wait until later? Is there a [H] corp?

Edit: After searching, found its done by disabling HDR in-game and enabling AA in your driver control panel.
thanks, did some searching myself and there is a method to enable AA with HDR using nHancer. I think I'll wait til I buy the Viewsonic VX2265WM to reactivate, I remember now how painful it was playing this game on a CRT with the tiny fonts.

Btw, thanks everyone in [H] corp who donated ISK to get me started last time, wasn't planning on disappearing after a couple weeks but things came up, such is is life.

Logged in last night and for some reason, I ended up spending a few hours in Rookie Chat. Mannn, there is LOTS of people who seemingly didnt read a darn thing about the game, asking questions that, if they had done some tutorials, would have answered for them.

However, a few things did come up which peaked my curiousity. A few people kept asking "What should I do to make ISK?" And then followed by "Should I Mine, Trade, Salvage, Explore......"

The most common answer given was to Mine. But then an ISD came along and said you should choose ONE occupation and stick with it and that Jack of All Trades used to be something you could do in the game, but not now.

Well, to me, I DO want to do them all. Sometimes, I would like to go out mining some ore, and then other times, I want to do some missions and then other times, I would like to explore too.

What im curious about is, why I can not do all those things with one character? Whats so wrong with doing a bit of each? Im not really the type of gamer who has multiple characters. I like to have just the one and stick to that. Is that not doable in EVE?

The reason is time. It takes many months to train for mining and even more for combat ships. Being great in one aspect of the game is better then being average in everything.

The only way you can do everything is to have more then one account and use alts. If your good at making money you can buy GTCs using in game money and pretty much never have to spend real money to play the alt account.

Can I have a combat char and a miner char on the same account and share money between the two of them?

Time isnt really relevant in MY case though. Im in no real hurry to be some an ultimate EVE player. I just want to have some fun and not worry about "needing" to be of some sort of level higharchy (sp). Something that has nearly wiped out my RL bank account is limiting myself to only ONE skill. When that skill is no longer in demand, I loose. But, if I had diversified myself earlier on, I could have many skills to fall back on. Though this is a game....I still dont want to make the same mistake, not to mention, I enjoy all aspects of this game and would like to be able to diversify myself in doing them.

Hmmm, just reread what I just wrote......not sure if it makes sense. I always have a hard time trying to put whats on/in my mind into type.

Yes, you can. Just add your alt's name to your buddy list, then click on that name within the list and there should be a "send money to" option in the drop down list.

Can I have a combat char and a miner char on the same account and share money between the two of them?

Yes but why split training between two characters when you can have one that does it all. Splitting training between two characters on one account is generally the worst thing to do because as said above you just end up with low skillpoint characters that can only do one thing. As for doing it all, yes it's possible but to do everything really well it does take a ton of training. Overall I'd just say have one main character you train for whatever you want to do, and only dole out a couple days here or there to an alt for very specialized low skill stuff. Another option is you can start a second account, train up a character to do something specific, and then transfer that character to your primary account and close the second account. There is a $20 character transfer fee though.

Don't known how i could have missed this game

It's like Final Frontier Elite II...but with real people added to the mix :D

Anyhow I got the 21 days trial account to test it out...CTD in station in Windows 7...guess I have to try this under XP when I come home again.
But then I at least got the time to read up on the game...damn there is a lot to learn...and and I learned some fun new words like "carebear" :D

Anyway WoW subscription canceled, this will be my new MMO.

You just dropped out of your local community college and enrolled at MIT.

I know, just spent the last 3 days just reading up, not even playing the game.
(I am the GF's at the moment)

Allready got EveMon downloaded, and have planned my first weeks as Caldari, what to learn first, that I will do missions up to level 3 to get more ISK/standings..and a good feel for the game, before I venture to more LowSec, PvP and perhaps some FW.

This game really has potential...and I loved Final Frontier Elite II on the Amiga...this is going to cost me a LOT of time
*eyes the GF*
.oO(She is going to hate this game *LOL*)

I've run it without issue in Windows 7 with a 9600GT if that helps. Also feel free to check out the public wiki section for goons, assuming it's still updated:

What driver version do you use?
(mine CTD is due to my GPU driver being reset)

Thanks for the link, will look into that ASAP :)

I just used whatever the latest driver was, and I think there's been one released since.

I just used whatever the latest driver was, and I think there's been one released since.

The issue is gone now, after I experienced 5-6 CTD in the first tutorial the games is acting real nice now...strange shit
That is, after I finished the first tutorial, no more CTD.

Well, got a nice SP program running (Instant Recall, Analytical Mind, Learning) besides the first skillbooks I had, done my first Tutorial Agents missions..and am now at work while my character is training...gonna use these first 21 days to just train, train and train...SP in the right places really matters (after what I have read).

ITEMS!!!!!

Mannnn, have I got a lot of em. The problem Im having atm is that Ive been keeping my items at the station Im most familiar with, which is in the newb area. But, to go out and find things elsewhere, im having to warp 4-8 systems away. Then I load up the ship and have to go back to the station where Ive been keeping my items. This has become a tedious thing to do.

I know there are cargo containers and such, but I do not quite understand how they are used. What do YOU guys do with all the stuff you accumulate in the game? Do you make runs back and forth to the different systems gathering your things, as much as can fit into your cargo hold and then warp to a station where your currently doing missions/exploring and transfer your items to that station, and then again when you go to another station?

What Im getting at is.....I have lots of neat things to use with my ship, but not all things are used all at the same time depending on what it is im doing at that time. I might be running a few missions which ask of me to kill some pirates....so I load out my ship with weapons. Other times, Im doing a bit of mining to which I then load out the ship with less weapons but add in a mining laser. And then, other times, Im using probes to find uncharted "things", so I then load out with again, other items. I dont want to keep all these things in my cargo hold all the time so I keep room in there for loot. Found me an ocular implant the other day which says in the market place is valued at over 1million isk. Anyways.....

So whats a pak-rat like me to do with all the stuff I accumulate in the game? I cant possibly keep on dragging all this stuff with me everywhere I go.

Ahhhhhhh, well hell, I think the answer just popped into my head for the solution.....Have different ships. One loaded out for fighting, one loaded out for mining and another for exploration????

That brings up a question though to those who have been playing for some time now.....Just how many ships do YOU have?

Im really starting to get the hang of using Probes, but at times, its still a "mind fuk" to me. All the different positions they can go and then twisting the map around so you can see clearly whats going on. From one point of view, it looks like your probes scanning range are overlapping eachother, then you move around and see they are not even close to touching eachother.

I found an anomaly last night. Got 2 red dots to show up but then, after reducing my scanning range to try and pin point the location, the 2 red dots dissappeared and no matter where I put the probes, I could not re-find that anomaly. Its like it vanished.

Is there a time limit or something when you find these things? Like, you have to get it pinpointed within "x" amount of time or it disappears? Or could it have been a ship I found, but then that ship saw that I was trying to scan it to find it and it warped out of the system? What happened here?

Also, I have a question about making some ISK.

I was searching the market for a particular item, found it, but it was in a system 5 jumps away. I went ahead and went to go get it. As I was at the station that had it, further lookin in the market system, I was seeing the same item being sold in a nearby system that was a mere 3 jumps away for nearly double the price. Obviously, people are buying it, cause the dude had over 300 of them selling for that doubled price. I bought 3 of the item I needed. One for myself and 2 to sell at the other systems market. I sold both of them for nearly 10k MORE than what was already a doubled price. I couldnt believe it.

To me, that just seemed to be TOO incredibly simple to do to be "right". Within this game of EVE. Is this EVE's version of buying low, selling HIGH?

What I dont understand is HOW I was able to make that ISK. i.e. It only took maybe 5 minutes or so to jump the 3 systems. Why would anyone buy an item that cost double when they could spend 5 minutes to save ISK and get the same item for half the price? Am I missing something???

Ahhhhhhh, well hell, I think the answer just popped into my head for the solution.....Have different ships. One loaded out for fighting, one loaded out for mining and another for exploration????

That's what I'm doing for now. I plan on moving towards 0.0 over time and finding a corp with facilities to base out of.

lol.. You nailed it. Buy low and sell high.

Yes. Low and High. I started in Nourvukaiken when I joined the corp. I went out to their home, and found things roughly 3x more than what they were back in Nourvukaiken. So I go back there when I need to buy something, but I buy 5 of them, bring them back to Cat, and sell for market average. Make back 3x on average, too.

People hate flying to pickup stuff. That's generally the best/easiest way to make money if you have the patience to do it. Sit and watch the market, then buy low sell high, move things to places they aren't on the market, etc. :) When the new T3 cruiser skills were on the market day the first day after the expansion I bought 5 of each of them (all four races) for 2.5mil and then jumped them out to 0.0 in my carrier and marked them up to 10mil. 10mil for a skill is peanuts for players that have been in game awhile and have access to 0.0 to make money. I made 750mil profit when they all sold because people in 0.0 wanted to get started on them but didn't want to have to make the trip to empire.

All of my important mods get thrown into the cargo bays of ships I don't use often. I got a badger in my mission system that I use to keep all my my Tech 2 mods, ammo, drones and anything else useful for missions. This keeps me from selling stuff i need. Sell what you don't need so you earn more money. Good items to keep are meta 3,4 items. However meta 4 items tend to sell for alot more then even their tech 2 equivalent, you need to determine if you will use the item at a latter time.

As for how many ships I got. Based on memory I got about 15 ships in the EVE universe. A few blackbirds, a Raven, Raptor, Manticore, Thorax, drake, badgers, rifters and a bunch of shuttles that I need to get rid of.

What about ITEMS though? For instance, yourself OldPueblo. Youve been playing for a bit I gather. What or where do you keep all of your loot? Do you have a particular station you call your "home base" where you keep everything and then warp to it whenever you need something? Do you keep lots of items scattered across the sytem(s) in different stations?

Ive been as far away as 8 systems from my "home" station. When I fill up on "things", is it the norm to bus it back to the home area or.....As I said, I dont quite understand the container system and what its for. I see some anchored by stations, I see some anchored by asteroids. What I dont understand is the "WHY" are they anchored in said places?

You bring up another point of interest that I dont quite have a grasp of yet...

The Meta system. Obviously, a Meta 4 is better than a Meta 1 or items that dont even have a Meta rating (usually the cheap newbie stuff I assume). However.....after I was scanning the market and reading the info on diffeerent items, there were times a Meta 4 item and its Meta 1 equivalent were so sooo barely barely different, I couldnt see why the Meta 4 item was like 10x more expensive. Comparing the stats of those items, some "seemed"(maybe I overlooked something) to be identical aside from its Meta score.

So, what is a Meta score anyway and how does it function in the game?

This is taken from the eve forums so there is the chance it is incorrect:

Meta
0 = buildable tech 1 item (shows as n/a rather than 0 ingame)
1-4 = named tech 1 item
5 = tech 2 item
6+ = faction/deadspace/officer/cosmos

Meta 4 items also tend to have less CPU and or powergrid requirements. What item where you looking at and didn't notice anything different?

Yes you generally want to keep a home system in empire, but the truth is you will generally end up with assets all over the place. My assets window scrolls off the screen and covers a lot of places in EVE. In some stations I have as many as 900 items. It's mainly because I'm lazy and don't play the market at all. Mission loot, you buy stuff forgetting you already own some, etc. The best thing to do is find a guy with a freighter to move all your stuff when you get too much to toss into a hauler. You can also move ships in a freighter though they have to be packaged voiding your insurance and destroying any rigs you might have. But that can be better then moving ships one by one to a new destination. I use an external program called EVE Asset Manager made by some guy and right now it tells me I have 5,039 assets spread around all my characters all around the EVE universe. Consolidating it all would be a massive pain so you just tell yourself "I'll get back to it later." :D I'm probably sitting on billions for all I know, though ironically I don't ever have much liquid isk.

Yeah that's normal. As for containers they have several uses. Maybe you want to categorize stuff in your hangar, maybe you want to anchor a secure can out in space so that you can dump ore into it rather then flying back to station every time, then just come back in a hauler to pick it up in one trip. And some just use anchored cans as a billboard with a message on it.

Currently training "Learning Level 3"
Just got the Condor, and are going off to work now (can't game from work, so it's just training, traning and training ;))

(Yes I know Caldari is a missile/shield race, but I woill rather take a bit longer to traing the "learning" skills, for the added speed bonus afterwards...besides...the game is still free ;) *L*)

Damn this game has gotten me addicted

Reprocess your extra items. I've found the minerals sell for more than the item does.

re: making ISK
I sell Cap Booster 800's in a level 4 mission runner station (ok, I have a freighter to dump a whole bunch of them there). I am able to sell them for 7,000 isk, even though there are other sellers in the same system who sell for about half. Sure, 3,500 isk doesn't seem like a lot of cash, but it's over 100% profit, for very little time invested. I sell drones and ammo there as well, whatever else mission runners may need.

It's really "just" buy low sell high. The reason why most people have no ISK is because they are lazy bum bastards. They are like "ah, only 3,500 ISK isn't work my time", which is right, except when you sell about 1,000 boosters per day. That's 3.5mil profit on a single item (as in a single kind), every day, with a few minutes invested once a week.

Persistent sellers sell a number of such items in each of their hubs, buy mission runner loot (as most people don't realize that reprocessed loot (minerals) is worth more than the item itself) and reprocess it, use those minerals to build the ammo the mission runners need.

Once such a "chain" is set up, it takes very little time and just keeps on generating ISK.

It's nice to finally get to the level 2 missions. I completed the initial 3 tutorials and neglected to mark the next set of agents down I was supposed to go to, so I stayed home and found some other agents. Equipping a salvager paid off bigtime. It was 50-200k per mission before getting a salvager, and now I'm sometimes coming back with 1.5M. I figure I have 3 solid weeks training up Learning skills and some more Command stuff. If I can hit 100M by then I can afford to start losing ships and really learn how to fly. ;) Kind of boring since my sniping setup almost never takes damage but there you go.

I almost lost my Merlin in a mission today.."warp to encounter"..*SLAM*

"Station hit you for xxx points"

Shield: gone
Amour: gone
Hull: 1/3 left...and 6 red boogies comming in

Time for a tactical retreat...second time went smooth though :D

If you are training learning skills, I suggest you let EVEmon decide when to train them. If you want to speed up skill training, train for cybernetics and buy some implants. Start with +1 implants which are cheap and work to +4s.

I forgot all about implants. I have 2 plugged in but I can afford to get the rest of the +1s now, and maybe a couple of +3s if they're not too expensive.

Last night I finally got to see a couple ships going at it in Kakakela. I was missioning in and around the system and noticed the average age in local going WAY up. Usually it's mostly noobs like me, a few big haulers and maybe the occasional BC/BS passing through. I started seeing pilots aged to 2005 and 2006 and flying warships, and BS camping warp gates. Everything got a little creepy at that point and I felt pretty small in the overall scheme of things. But, I figured I was safe enough and if not, I had another Merlin in the dock.

Later on I undocked from a station and a BS and a Drake were going at it RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I wanted to follow this thing and see how they fought but by that time I was in a slow hauler. I warped 'home' and grabbed the Merlin--except I grabbed the repackaged Merlin (no AB) and by the time I got back they were 80k away. I went back and got the Merlin with AB but by that time everything was quiet.

I love this game. Took a quick training break to get Gallente/Minmatar Frigate up to 3 so I can play with those ships. Tristans look like a nice ship for shooting at things. ;)

One thing that helps with organizing your good is to buy station containers. They're sold by the station itself (always cost 20k) so you don't have to worry about finding the best prices for them. Once you buy them, all you have to do is right click on it in your hangar and assemble it. From then on you can open it up just like the cargo bay in your ship. I usually keep most of my stuff in two locations across empire space. At each station I have 6-7 station containers. You can set the names for station containers as well (ex. Gear, Ore, Junk, etc.) to better organize it.

Now there are a few caveats with stations containers. The main downside to them currently is that once you place items in a station container, they'll no longer show up in your "assets" window. You'll only be able to see the container itself. This can make it hard if you keep a lot of ship equipment in containers, as you'll never really know what stuff you have at each station, unless you're actually docked and looking into the container. I've heard that the next patch will let you open station containers remotely, so that should be nice.

Hopefully that helps with some of your organizational issues. :)
