Ya the game is still pretty populated and the PvP is still doing great. Kinda surprised really. Estimates are still around 700k subscribers which isn't too damn bad for a modern day subscription based MMO.
 
Anyone able to get decent frame rate in large battles in Cyrodiil?

My frame rate always drops down to around 10fps near keeps under siege. I'm told it is primarily CPU-limited, is that right? Do I need an i7-4770k to reach steady 30-40fps?
 
Last time I played PVP I was in a pretty large battle and even though my frame rates dropped, they didn't get any where near 10 fps.

My current system is a 5 year old hp envy15 laptop :D

  • i7-820QM 3.06GHz
  • AMD 5830 1GB GDDR3
  • 2 x 180GB Intel X-18M SSD in Raid0
  • 16GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM

Not much I can do until I get a new PC. I can run most games at 1080p around 30fps or higher, but ESO is a slideshow in large PVP battles, even after dropping down to 720p.

I've heard ESO is highly CPU-limited in Cyrodiil, so I guess to run it well, I need to buy the best CPU I can afford when I build my desktop?

Yes, very limited by CPU in cyrodiil. Get the fastest clock rate CPU you can get, its also not very well mufti-threaded so it may not scale to multi-core cpus very well.
 
I remember the game running perfectly fine on my PC. I never checked to see how many cores it was using because the engine ran so well. When something runs transparently without fuss you don't really care how many cores it uses. :)

With that said I'd get another Intel processor if I were you. Best quad core i5 or i7 you can afford. Pair that with a GTX970 or used R9 290 (x), and run the game buttery smooth all of the time.
 
Been hearing the 1.5 patch and its removal of forward camps especially has had a hugely positive impact on Cyrodiil, bringing it more in line with the original vision of being a newer version of DAOC's New Frontiers... I stopped playing about a month ago to try Archeage but am probably going to head back to ESO. Anyone around here still play, and if so, any thoughts? They also began their veteran rank system removal and overhaul to reduce the extreme grind, and the Imperial City, Champion System, etc are still incoming.

Also, re: Cyrodiil & cpu-bound performance it is indeed pretty cpu-bound but it does thread pretty well to 4 cores when I played it on my i7 2600k (if I turned off hyper-threading I could see the physical core use much more accurately), the main thread as with any game being the bottleneck though. It also stayed performing at least playably in even the most massive battles for me.

If you do try it, just keep in mind the fun part of this game is the PVP. It's more like a medieval siege warfare game set in the Elder Scrolls universe than an RPG or anything like Skyrim.

Once you start fighting other players, combat with NPCs is never going to compare. I guess because it's an MMO, the enemies in the PVE area just stand around waiting for players. As a result the PVE world feels a bit artificial compared to the single player TES games. If you are into MMOs, though maybe you are already used to that sort of AI. This was the first MMO for me, and I got bored of the PVE area real fast.

It's alive! I never bought a sub, but I received 700 crowns to blow in the cash shop.
 
What can you buy? Can I ignore the shop and have a great and fulfilling game, or does no crowns mean extra grinding?

You can buy mounts, pets, consumables with crowns. Also, dlc will be released for subscribers that can be paid with by crowns. The system is a bit like Secret World.

Shows as a 31GB download for me. (EDIT - Ah, I see, its in multiple download/patch pieces....though I'm around 42GB down atm and its 70% done.)

Getting steady 10-12MB/sec so that's not too bad.

I really doubt I'll play this long term, but who knows. If I've got nothing else to do this weekend, why not at least try it I figure.

It's next weekend. And Next week MK X and GTAV come out....might not be a good weekend to have a free weekend lol

Been playing again myself. It is alot better now. Seems they fixed alot of classes finally.
