Star Wars Outlaws

The scene could have done with less QTE prompts, but it’s charming nonetheless. Does a great job showing the connection between Kay and Nix. I hope there’s more stuff like that on other planets. One of the more creative bits of side content in the game.
Shame shame, I can do without the Mukbang in my games.

ENHANCE!

Still as good as it can look in many areas, can't sideline the craptacular gameplay mechanics and physics.

I finished the main story quests last night. IMO this was a really well done Star Wars game. Yes it has bugs and yes some of the choices made were head scratchers but at the end of the day Massive did some impressive world building here. If you're a fan of the original movie trilogy you're going to love the cameos from some well known characters. I hope all you guys give this game a chance so we get a sequel in the future.

After watching and seeing several aspects of this game, why aren't there any LIGHTSABERS in this game especially during the start of the game? I don't have the game, but after watching several videos on the start, I was not impressed. Most of the other ubisoft titles have a decent intro in the game like in FarCry 3,4, 5, or 6. This one did not.

Because the main protagonist doesn't use The Force. She's just a normal person.

Apparently, this sentiment, being expressed by many, is what ultimately might hurt this game.

Personally, the absence of Jedi in this universe was what pleased me… but I’m weird.

I agree that the majority of Star Wars fans want to see Jedi Knights in games but there are other stories to tell. Look at the movie Roque One for example. That was the story of how the Republic (or the Resistance) got the plans for the Death Star which they used to destroy it during the movie Star Wars: A New Hope. This universe is filled with so much content so I suggest you give Outlaws a try to see what it's about vs watching Youtube videos or listening to Podcasts.

I don't think that's necessarily it. That may have some impact, but its not the only thing hurting the game. There were a lot of people looking forward to Star Wars 1313 before it was shit canned by Disney. Plenty of people loved Republic Commando, including myself. There were also a lot of people who played Bounty Hunters and other things in Star Wars The Old Republic and so on.

I've seen a lot of videos on the game and a lot of reviews and summing up the game is pretty easy. "We have Jedi Survivor at home." Keep in mind, I am someone who was genuinely interested in this game. I've stayed away from it for a number of reasons. Everything I've seen in this game has been done better in other Star Wars games or even other Ubisoft games.

You've got the game trying to be Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon, and Jedi Survivor all in one with a Party City quality Star Wars skin on it. Star Wars Outlaws doesn't do anything those games do very well and its poorly done for an open world. The environments don't appear to vary too much. When you are doing a computer game there should be much more interesting and alien environments than you see on TV shows or movies because the budget constraints aren't applicable in the same way. You have bad gun play, stupid looking melee attacks and probably the worst takedown animations of all time. I don't want to invest 30-40 hours into something like that as I doubt the story is enough to carry the gameplay. Traversal also doesn't seem anywhere near as good as either Assassin's Creed or Jedi Survivor. It's stealth and stealth takedowns are inferior to both Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell games.

The protagonist, is hideous. Her eyes are further apart than Admiral Ackbar's and her bone structure is closer to Bizarro's than the actress who was supposedly the template for the character. Combine that with atrocious dialog and you don't really have anything compelling in the character itself. A bland, boring protagonist in a story driven game doesn't work. It was ultimately one of Mass Effect Andromeda's biggest failings. Of all the Star Wars character archetypes we've come to know in other video games, a smuggler is probably the least compelling. A Mandalorian or even a regular bounty hunter would have been far more interesting. Fuck, I would rather have played a generic Storm Trooper than Wish.com gender bent Han Solo. The open world environment isn't terribly varied and in a video game there is no excuse for that.

I don't think the character is as unlikeable as Ray or anyone in the Acolyte or anything based on what I've seen. But she hardly looks like a person and the technical issues around facial animations do not help either. Cut scenes I've seen would be immersion breaking. Between that face, poor facial animations, lip sync issues, and horrendous dialog I can't see how I'm supposed to get invested into the story.

Next, you have a myriad of technical issues. Brain fucking dead AI. Jesus. AI in the games I mentioned isn't that great, but its somewhat serviceable. The AI in Outlaws really isn't. Also, not being able to pick up and keep weapons with you as you move through the world is stupid. Additionally, not being able to reload them is stupid too. The blaster you are stuck with also seems to take a full Presidential term to fucking kill someone. Where as her lazy falcon punch seems to one shot everything. (Which is retarded.) This doesn't match up with what we see in the movies and TV shows. If you are going to use a given IP for a game, the game needs to feel like an authentic experience.

Getting back to the technical stuff, it's a Ubisoft game. While I've been a fan of many of their games in the past, the fact is every game they launch is a shit show for the first 6 months after release. I probably wouldn't really consider buying the game until it's in a more polished state. You may not have had the worst experience, but I know what to expect from Ubisoft on that front and I've seen enough videos of inexcusable issues to give the game a wide berth until a lot of that shit is resolved. If they resolve some of the issues mentioned, I'll consider getting the game. I'm also closely watching the modding scene for the game. Some mods already exist, but we'll have to see what's available over the coming weeks.

Mods may address some of the issues as well.
Personally, the absence of Jedi in this universe was what pleased me… but I’m weird.
I agree with you. Not every game needs to have a force user for a protagonist.

I think this is one of my biggest issues. A smuggler/scoundrel who gets into fights all the time and especially a smuggler/scoundrel who makes themselves known to the authorities at every chance they get isn't going to last long. The essence of a smuggler/scoundrel is to stay under the radar and be unknown which is why the style of the game feels unnatural. It doesn't help that a 100lb soaking wet non-Force sensitive woman can easily and repeatedly take down Storm Troopers in full armor with a punch or helmet twist. It would be more believable that she would show her face and they turned to stone.

So much about the game looks so generic. If the Star Wars name and Star Wars elements were removed but everything else stayed the same, would there be very many people who want to play the game?

How buggy is the game in its current state? Mainly small things? I am thinking of which game I should do first, Avatar or Outlaws.

I'll mirror what others said about more non-Jedi Star Wars games. Shame about the Respawn FPS being cancelled. Not a lot of good, proper FPS campaigns these days and I liked what they did with Titanfall 2.

I've watched a couple videos of gameplay, now in fairness: i dont buy ubisoft games full stop. But i woudn't buy this game if it wasn't ubisoft, the gameplay just looks completely broken and or boring to me. I know, who cares about my opinion, just adding my two cents. I'd like an actual decent starwars game I still play battlefront 2

Grrrrrl power, haha
Got forbid a female actually loses a fist fight to a man, can't show that in a contemporary video game

I'm glad to see this game is failing in hopes that a better developer will get a shot at the IP to make a real game in the future. I'm tired of EA and UBI to be honest. Users reviews mention a boring main character with a boring story and brain dead AI. The game seems buggy and I have seen reports of performance issues as well. The only good thing I have read about this game is that the game engine they purchased from someone else looks pretty, yet unoptimized. Considering they are charging $110 for the full game and all the cash they burnt on Disneyland tickets for the press...yeah I'm glad it's going away. Hopefully asscreed is the final nail in the coffin for these activist jokers. IGN gave it a 7 which is the same score they gave Concord which just got shut down for how bad it is. User reviews are in the 50% range and their stock just crashed 13%. It flopped, good riddance.

Love how people who haven’t played the game have the most opinions…
I think if you've watched the trailers, videos of gameplay and multiple reviews I think that's enough to form an opinion about the game. Is that the same as playing it for yourself? No, it isn't. However, it is enough to see some of the games flaws and its enough to decide whether or not the game is worth buying or not. Sure, there is a margin of error with that but its the best you are going to get without actually spending money on it.

Helping you to form an opinion about the game is literally the purpose of game trailers and reviews.

Or you know, you can buy it, try it for 1 hour 59 minutes and then refund it. It also depends on "what you watch" as there is a lot of garbage out there on tubes.

To Dan's credit, he may be taking your opinion on this one with a grain of salt because at times it's clear that you have very low standards and will play just about anything, sometimes even calling yourself an idiot in the process for continuing to put more time into said game.

Most of us are seasoned enough at this point to know what we think will and won't work for us (especially after some other folks have weighed in). I'll give any game a shot if it looks somewhat interesting, but there are some that I can be pretty sure I won't enjoy regardless. Should we have had to buy and play Concord for 1h59m and then refund it in order to determine it was gutter trash?

If anything that means my standards are high and I am quite vocal about what I like and what I don't. I also try the game myself before passing an opinion. As for finishing games I don't like, I am a completionist at heart and if I am a bit too deep in a game the likelihood of it getting finished is pretty high. I also don't conform to typical opinions (e.g., every dark souls like game is omgwtfbbqawesome etc.). I call out how I see things, what I like and also downsides of games I don't like.

Anyways, coming back again and again in this thread to crap on a game gets old fast and hence the point that rather than posting all those youtube videos, maybe try the game and let's discuss merits/demerits of it.

What? If that were true, then you'd only be playing the cream of the crop.

If I tell you that I have high standards when it comes to women, you probably wouldn't expect me to keep dating a bunch of 6s and 7s right? Or marrying one (I'm using this as the equivalent of finishing a game) despite the fact that she smokes, barely takes any bites of a $40 meal every time I buy her dinner, and occasionally gives handjobs to other dudes.

As for finishing games I don't like, I am a completionist at heart and if I am a bit too deep in a game the likelihood of it getting finished is pretty high.
I don't really understand this one...I absolutely will not grind or attempt to 100% a game that I do not like. That, to me, is insanity...my gaming time these days between work, family, projects, and other hobbies is much too precious to spend hours in games where I want to be having fun but clearly am not. I understand that not everyone's situation is the same, and that some folks online seemingly have nothing to do but play all of these games for hundreds of hours, but I have to be a bit pickier than that which is why the whole "C'mon guys you need to buy and play all of these mid games in order to form an opinion" just doesn't really work out in practice.

I also don't conform to typical opinions (e.g., every dark souls like game is omgwtfbbqawesome etc.).
Which is good! I don't either. Hell, the immersive sim category is one of my favorite genres but they typically don't sell that well. Those who do love that style of open-ended gameplay though, are very passionate about them. It's really unfortunate that a lot of gamers don't want to think about different solutions to problems though, and would rather either be funneled towards a waypoint with prompts for everything along the way or would rather load up the newest AAA open world game with bullshit copypasta side quests and objectives that do nothing but occupy your time and let the devs claim it's "tHeIr BiGgEsT gAmE yEt!"

Anyways, coming back again and again in this thread to crap on a game gets old fast and hence the point that rather than posting all those youtube videos, maybe try the game and let's discuss merits/demerits of it.
I get your general point here, but not every video that gets posted is "rage bait for clicks". Some, like the one I threw in early on, aren't just 4 minute compilations of hand-picked buggy gameplay...they are playing the game discussing the pros and cons (just as you claim to do).

Nothing of course replaces playing something for yourself, but if you take out the overt Star Wars/Ubisoft fanboyism that some folks have I do wonder how this same game would have been received.

This 100%

Low standards, FOMO, not valuing your time, and overall passivity w regard to being susceptible to marketing are all qualities that I see on display from folks here in these forums w regard to buying low quality AAA games simply because the marketing is aggressive enough. To put it simply, some of you all are lemmings as far as buying games goes.

Dude, and I mean this with all sincerity, go pound sand. You just want an excuse to act like a jackass and pretend you have some moral superiority because people have different tastes in fucking video games.
