Star Wars Outlaws

Honestly, I wish it felt more like other Ubisoft games. I really like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry. To me it's a little like sneaky Uncharted set in the Star Wars universe. Your appreciation for it probably rides on how much that setting means to you. Well, that and how much you like to skulk around.

It's been compared to Uncharted for months now. And was actually the final straw for me to bump it down my wishlist.
I probably have a post somewhere in this thread whining about it.

Funny thing is that I like Uncharted, but it's like a full game based around the 2 sneaking missions in the 5 Uncharted games. It has some of the swinging/climbing/crawling mechanics, but they feel slow and heavy instead of quick and acrobatic. More like the newer Tomb Raider games maybe? I dunno. My wife seems to love the game and she doesn't care for Uncharted at all, so I think I've just found a game that isn't for me.

It has new-Raider and Uncharted style platforming sections. It's also a much bigger world to explore compared to both. Yes, I would generally agree it's close to them in terms of the combat since both those games really required stealth over pure aggro combat to get through the enemy NPC portions of the game.

It is not a typical ubisoft collect-a-thon game though.

The various missions available are closer to the latest AC games.

That is why i'm generally liking the game though, it plays actually somewhat unique even though it rips-off a lot of various elements.

How do you tell what editions of the game/DLC you own in Ubisoft Connect? Don't have time to play it now. Wondering if I can see if I got the pre-order mission. Had the key from before the release date but activated it today.

I just started and not far into the game, but is the first part just really meh and then it gets better? And you would think that with the stealth forced on you, hiding in the weeds or whatever they are would actually keep you hidden. Only thing keeping me going right now is the Star Wars aspect.

The forced stealth parts indeed sucks and it gets better.

The start isn't super strong.

Game-related, the one thing I'd caution people about is how stealthy the game pushes you to be. Some people will love that, and others will probably hate it, but it it's no accident either way. It's what they typically want you to do. Personally, I feel like I'm playing the Uncharted 2 museum mission over and over again. It isn't quite as rigid, but there's no quicksave option and you lose everything on those missions where you're supposed to remain hidden. There are unlockable bonuses tied to different (usually stealthy) approaches, too. My wife is digging it, but I'm way less enthused about sneaking around so much.
I went to an imperial base and shot some idiots. Ran around until alarms were silenced, then shot some more idiots. Got called out that death troopers will kill me. By that time I was 2 KM away from the base and they never came. And it was all good. Funniest was I was killing people off using sniper and they couldn’t find me.

There are some missions that say don’t get caught and fail you but I have done more missions where nothing happens.

I feel like I could make a short video making the Witcher 3 look like hot buttered trash if I really wanted to. I'm not a fan of the game, but it's better than a short video made by someone with a bone to pick implies.
I hate The Witcher 3. And there’s nothing wrong with valid criticism. What’s shown in these clips is what many people are complaining about that are playing this game. Not just people with a bone to pick.

All these types of video are people playing the game and intentionally putting themselves in situations to break the scripting or exploit flaws to make it look as bad as possible for clicks and views. It's been a thing for more than a decade at this point.

Does she stop punching like a moron in the normal game? Is the hitbox less far away from their face and body when she’s throwing these awful looking punches? Cuz I don’t think you can frame that any other way. I’m sure the game is fine. Many people like it, but the fighting animations alone make me not want to not play this.

ah, so janky punches in some cases from youtube clips were your final straw

understandable, sorry to see your otherwise stalwart interest in playing erode like that

That's a fair point, so you are saying that clips like these are not representative of the games overall quality? Because what's on display in those videos is a quite bad in my opinion. If I were playing that game and combat degenerated to that level I would stop playing the game and get a refund if I could.

People are shocked that a stormtrooper can't aim for shit with a blaster? Ever watched a Star Wars movie?

But seriously, that was really bad even for a stormtrooper.

How can you guys enjoy garbage like this?

Because it’s fun? Most of us didn’t pay full price for this game. We’re either playing through the $18 a month subscription or got it from game codes. The price you pay for a game drastically affects your perception of it. Not to mention, as funny as those glitch videos are, they are not an accurate representation of the game. I’ve run into a few bugs and a couple times the AI has glitched out, but nowhere near the frequency that the videos would have you believe. The game has problems, it’s very much a 6 or 7/10 type of game, but that doesn’t mean there is no enjoyment to be had with it.

Probably shouldn't be marketed as a Triple A game then wouldn't you say.

If you play this game going from base to base to camp to the City it's going to wear you out. I think that is where the lower rating came from. There are a lot of upgrades and I only upgraded my blaster once and the slicer key still working on my bike upgrades which I only changed the paint job.

I asked you not Ubisoft.. But i like the dodge.. Cause we all know the answer.

It’s not a dodge, I just don’t give a fuck. How it’s marketed is not my problem. Ubisoft are the ones that spent AAA money on it and gave it AAA marketing, they’re the ones that deal with the consequences of their actions. If this were in person, my response would have been a shrug and a disinterested expression.

It's a console thing, and you aren't off topic asking about that version :).

It isn't just this game, or Ubisoft. Lots of games lack small details now. There is a video showing off Far Cry 2 compared to Far Cry 5. FC2 had a whole lot of small details, like grass deformation, injured NPCs dragging their buddies away, more advanced vehicle damage, more realistic fire behavior, more detailed NPC conversations, ammo cook offs, and more.

I can also think of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1/2 compared to Wildlands. Much more detailed character movements, better animation blending to ragdoll for downed enemies, more realistic weapon animations, ability to stand up fully to tip over cover, ability to shoot when magazine is not loaded in weapon so each weapon had 3 reload animations, arming distance for rifle grenades that would arm if they rotated enough while rolling on the ground, NPCs that would provide covering fire while others advanced. Ubisoft is probably the worst offender of this, and it is one of the many reasons I keep saying they are perhaps the blandest of the major game developers.

These days gaming is more about massive game lengths, copy/pasting activities, and giving artificial things "to do" in games rather than interesting things to discover, manipulate or play around with.

Yeah, I remember spending half my time shooting at things and seeing what could be destroyed in Metal Gear Solid 2. Some games still have little details like this, but most games don't, and I miss that.

Outlaws tried something different- playing as Han Solo vs Luke Skywalker...turns out more players enjoy playing as Luke with light sabers and Force powers

Ubisoft Shares Take a Hit as Analysts Predict Lower Than Expected Star Wars Outlaws Sales

This is a BS article. No digital sales have been revealed.

Whilst I know it may sound sexist or materialistic or whatever but if they actually used the face of the lady and fixed up hair properly (even with a 70s style haircut). I personally think the game would’ve sold better.

How is it bullshit? Share prices dropped.

If i can ask. That low res textures sometimes is related to my console or its a game thing? Sometimes not always i can see low rest texture
