I like to think he (and others like him) = skewing pre-order revenue a little, which I'm cool with.

they keep referring to this game as 'open world' but I'm curious how open it really is...can I go anywhere and do missions out of order?

I assume it will be like most recent Ubisoft games. A loose central story with multiple mini stories that are presented at once and you can choose which to start first. Recent Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Wildlands and the last Watch Dogs followed the same pattern.

Looks like Ubi is making her even uglier to stick it to the chuds 🤪

I think it is a combo of the game engine, which doesn't do faces well (see the division games) and the whole "we have to make the protagonist relatable" and not fantasy fodder for evil male gamers. Despite the fact that most people want their fantasy personas to look good. Unless one is trolling for fun in say, Conan Exiles or other survival type games.

No, it isn't. They made her ugly on purpose. They gave her a butt chin, a nose job, and completely destroyed her face, as well as giving her whatever horrendous looking haircut that is. You've been gaslit if you think this is a game engine problem. Stellar Blade, as well as 100% of other Japanese-based games, don't have this magical ugly woman problem. They generally don't do this to male characters. Just look at the other Star Wars game for comparison:

It is partially the engine. Unreal has good character/facial technology. Ubisoft's engines generally don't, they look plasticy and have bad facial animations. The Assassin's Creed engine generally looks better though, but those are designed with that in mind. For this game they're using the Snowdrop engine, which was designed around MMO games and not story/character driven games. Similar situation happened when Mass Effect Andromeda came out. The facial animations looked worse than ME2/3 (UE3) in many ways as Frostbite was designed for online shooters and not single player games that focus heavily on character animations. They more or less had to rush to make tools for proper character animations and the result was a mess. In UE4/5 a lot of that technology is already there.

The voice syncing in the trailers for Outlaws looks quite bad as well.

They gave her super detailed crooked teeth that the actress she's modeled from doesn't have. They gave her a witch nose. They gave her a butt chin. And all of this is in high detail. This isn't from a lack of resources, technical skill, or problems with the game engine making her ugly. This was intentional. Whatever this nonsense is that you think is reality truly isn't. Enough with the gaslighting. They took a beautiful woman and made her ugly. They could have saved money by just hiring some rando off the street or even someone from within the company to model from. I think they do this intentionally because they like uglifying beautiful people. This isn't a fluke and it isn't just isolated to Unreal Engine games.

By the way, Stellar Blade is also using the Unreal Engine. So please ... just stop.

Let's take a look at Eve and the model they based her on:

The model isn't something the engine affects in this manner :ROFLMAO: :).

Snowdrop is entirely different from UE. UE is made by Epic, Snowdrop is one of Ubisoft's in house engines. Snowdrop seemingly doesn't handle facial animations or faces well at all. Example:

There are of course some differences but I think you're exaggerating a lot. I'm not really seeing a butt chin here. Main difference is the cheek area which is a lot more squared with higher cheek bones.

Hair is well, Star Wars.

The main thing I find odd is the in game character looks different in many shots. I am thinking there is a cut scene 3D model that doesn't quite align to the gameplay 3D model.

The problem is that they made her ugly on purpose. That’s it.

They didn't make Cal ugly.
And since they were going for FemSolo, Harrison Ford is also very attractive so they changed the formula there too.

Why are all these female characters being uglified but we still have handsome male characters?
Why are they setting all these unrealistic beauty standards for men?

I don't look like Cal or Han Solo, I can't relate to any of these characters!

The problem isn’t just bad character design. It’s a group of insecure, overweight, and self-obsessed women who can’t stand to see anything beautiful that doesn’t reflect their own miserable reality. They ruin female characters by making them unattractive, dull, and unappealing, all while drooling over the handsome men they’ll never have, but think they deserve. They’re poisoning the well with their own insecurities and dragging everyone else into their warped vision of the world, where beauty is sacrificed on the altar of their self-pity. They’ve turned art into a reflection of their own failures, and they’re too blind to see the damage they’re doing. And if you call them out on it, you're a sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, bigot.

At some point you are going to be so offended by everything that there won't be a game, movie or TV show that you can watch.

Eh, I'm already there. Most new stuff is unwatchable hence I dont subscribe to much streaming nor cable for 5 years.

Lol! at all the pages in this thread about the face of the character. The so-called model that they based the game character on doesn't look all that great tbh. And if they tried to do a 1:1 digital copy of her in the game it still wouldn't look right. That "model" just doesn't fit the vibe of this game, I think ubi done the right thing mostly. Especially as it's been pointed out that snowdrop just isn't good with human faces. Yes, They could've/should've made the character a lil more feminine looking, But It's doable and won't affect the game experience. I'm Just ready to play the game at this point. And to see how it runs for others on their various setup's.

That is a heavy dose of copium.

We can do 1:1 scans of male actors, but apparently females are just too hard to render that way.

That's not how that works. That's not how any of that works.

The game engine has very little to do with what can be imported into them. There isn't a modern game engine on earth in use by AAA studios that forces someone making a model in Lightwave or 3D Studio Max to make it hideous so it can be imported into that game engine. That is not how game engines work. The animation systems are also not distorting the shape of her face in a static position to make her look like Eric Stoltz in Mask.

Mass Effect Andromeda's engine limitations had to do with map size and making the game open world. It had nothing to do with facial animations. The reason the animations were shit came down to the rushed nature of the game. For modern games, animations are done procedurally and then tweaked by hand later to fix issues with them as this is the fastest way to do things. There was no hand tweaking of the animation in Andromeda before launch. They just sent it like that. That's why everything was so messed up. In the six months post launch, those issues were all fixed via patches.

Also, Mass Effect Andromeda was the first game I can think of that had this problem of hiring an attractive female for the basis of the female protagonist, then made her ugly on purpose. If you pre-ordered the game, you got to play 10 hours of the game early. That early access build was an older build than the one that went live on launch day. Sarah Ryder looked like the woman she was based on in early access and she was made ugly in the launch day build. There are screenshots etc. proving this was the case.

It was better, but still wasn't great. For some reason they made cartoonish proportions on her face for day 1.

Her character got a broken nose at some point, which I am fine with. Minor details like that to establish the character are fine, in my book.
I guess I’d have no idea. Really not a Star Wars fan but I got a few more free keys and decided to give this a shot. I don’t know too much about Star Wars but maybe that’s a good thing. I know the basics and I’ve seen all the movies.
