Disciple Lan, what cpu cooler are you using? I'm thinking of building a very similar rig to yours and I'm hopin the Noctua NH-D14 will clear the RAM. Thanks.

yeah the 212+. By the way, I canceled by my order for the Vengeance sticks and ordered some G.Skill Sniper sticks instead:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231416

I was reading on here and elsewhere about how the 212+ would run into the heat sink on the vengeance (unless you gave up using the slot closest to the CPU, thereby hurting upgrade options in the future).

The sniper sticks have slightly looser timings but I saved 30 bucks and 'future proofed' (hah) my memory upgrade path.

I just placed my order on the Egg, I also had to cancel my Vengence order due to incompatability with the Noctua NH-D14 cooler. I went with G.Skill Ripjaws, I don't like the way they look (black and red with the Asus P8P67 Blue), but that's not a big concern.

Thats what I'm hoping but in all honesty I could see it being upwards of $599 to $699. If thats the case I'll just stick with a single 6970 or unlocked 6950 (if the new revision doesn't permanently lock them).

I really, really, REALLY don't understand why people buy that kind of RAM. It has looser timings and requires more voltage than the G.Skill ECO RAM I got (1.35v DDR3-1600/7, FYI).

Me either... your ECO also has very nice, compact heatspreaders instead of tall ones that do nothing except cause heatsink clearance issues while costing the same (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231403 is the RAM). I paid $68 shipped for 2x4GB (8GB) DDR3 1333 C9 Mushkin. If I were to have wanted to expand the budget, I'd certainly have done basics like comparing voltage/timings to similarly-priced models, and looked for one without gaudy heatsinks like those as the first things I glanced at.

It's a good thing the closest Microcenter is 2.5 hours away. I'm so, so tempted....must resist until Socket 2011, must resist.

    Intel Core i7 2600 (Yes Not K !)
    Intel DP67BG
    8 gb Crucial 1333/10600 1.5v
    Noctua NH-U9B SE 2
    Nvidia GTS 450
    Corsair HX 650
    WD Velociraptor 1500HLFS
    Lian Li PC-V1000 Plus II
    Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
    HP ZR24W

Microcenter was sold out of the 2600K's. I don't overclock and planned on the 2600 anyway.

Mines up and running just great! I don't run prime but idle temps are high 20's. The DP67BG is a very nice no-nonsense mobo by the way.

Just curious why you went for that Intel board when you are not OCing. There are much cheaper boards (e.g. H67 board from Intel).

Keeping the videocard, and my Antec SOHO tower that I have had for over 10 years. Should be a nice upgrade, I am pretty excited. I may get a Radeon 6850, but I will have to see how my games run first. I am going to wait for the Vertex 3 before I get an SSD.

Yep, because games aren't the only things that run on a computer.

Just like with i7 920 vs. q6600 in games, we won't see the extra benefits as clearly even though it exists in some a little already, because of GPU bottlenecking. As faster video cards come out and the focus shifts back onto the CPU, the differences will be laughably large just as q6600 vs. i7 920 is now despite not being so in games near launch.
