PS3 camping update

He just found out that while he has been camping out the past two days at Walmart, another man has been taking his place in bed beside his wife at night.

LMFAO!

Oh BTW, my wife just came from the mall here in Pensacola FL where there is a BB and said that she talked to an old friend of ours whose camping. He claims that the manager came out and told everyone that they were getting 80 PS3's. LOL he's like 20th in line, its going to be a cold dissapointing week for him.

LOL my bad im just drunk, Im pissed because I was at Fry's arguing with the manager. They were only selling Bundles and i thought that was illegal. You have to spend like $1079.00 + tax to get one. Anyways, im out of beer and im about to go get more. Cheers to everyone and have a safe night. :)

(i hope the fry's burn down)

Only problem with bundles is if they advertise the systems as available seperately, but then force you to buy a bundle or go home empty handed. If they advertised the bundles only, then it's not a problem.

Not that it doesn't suck, but nothing stopping em.

Anyway...
Buddy of mine from work is gonna check out a few places here after he gets done with bowling league tonight. If he finds a place that doesn't have an insane line, he's gonna give me a call and I might drive up (35 miles). We're thinking the Sam's might not be full, they were the easiest place to find one here locally when the 360 launched.

I don't care enough to wait in line for days, but if I can get one after waiting a couple hours, it's not a big deal.

So didn they cut the PS3 to 250,000 or they still at 400,000?
We'll probably never know. Although... if we see at least 200,000 on ebay we might have an idea... :p

sabrewolf732.....you speak the truth. Was at our Super Walmart getting a few groceries and that's what happend here...supposed to get 10, but only received 4.

where I work, supposed to be 7 60's 1 20, but apparently 3 20's 3 60's is what we're getting. Going to be a few pissed people tommarow :p I've heard to the same some of my friends that work in other stores =S

I have a quick question for you guys...

Some of my friends are camping out a CC and are 3,4,5 in line, none of them are planning on keeping their machines, how long do you think it will take them to sell the PS3's on ebay? In my experiance i gave up selling my Alienware laptop online because of all the damn Nigerian's trying to steal my shit.

Anyways i can only imagine how bad it is going to be trying to sell PS3's on ebay. Anywho i told them that i would purchase one of them for $200 over the price they paid, but i got no takers... lol.

How bad do you think the scams will be on ebay trying to sell a legit PS3?

Do you remember the 360's on Ebay? that was a fiasco and I expect the same for the PS3....if not worse.

actually i do not... i had no interest in the 360 so i never checked it out... i know though i had to relist my laptop at least 5 times before i game up.... im guessing somthing like that?

You just have to deal with the scammers.
No outside US bidders
Non-CC paypal only (going into a seperate checking account that is used for paypal only. As soon as the money is there, transfer it to a different account)
No bidders with less than 20 positive feedbacks (or some other number)
No "buy it now". People will just keep clicking buy it now and not paying.
No scammers (You'd be surprised how well it works to put that in :))
Etc...

Same crap you have to do for any higher dollar item. And even then, I'm sure it will be a pain in the ass. I sure wouldn't want to deal with it. Hell, if I wanted to sell one, I'd just get it now and sit on it for a couple weeks until after the initial ebay rush dies down.

Damn... this launch is turning into a bit of a farce. How could they not supply the already cut down 400k number. :(

Ive been hearing rumor of 150,000 US units...time will tell but my prediction : Theres going to be a bunch of cold, tired, hungry, upset Sony Fan boys.

yea, no luck in me getting a ps3 eather, although I didn't camp, although I checked my local gamestore and they said due to ps3 shortage they won't have any, then I checked walmart and they said they already had a line, besides thier only getting like 3 ps3s so most of the people there are wasting thier time.

Anyways I hope I can get a Wii easily on launch day, since thier should be over 50+ at walmart and I hoping a fair amount at hastings.

Just noticed a front page article in the local paper today about camping. 1st guy in line at BB will be there 42.5 hours before it's done. Most of the people they interviewed in line were actually there to buy the PS3 for themselves, not to sell. BB is getting 26 units, Target is getting 8, WalMart is getting 6 and they are also selling 6 rain checks. The BB is probably getting a decent amount cause it's a little over an hour away from the home office/main store.

On a positive note, the Target will be getting 39 Wiis. That means BB should have tons of them.

A local news station just reported that one Circuit City in my area has lost it's shipment of PS3s and sent campers home. They offered a voucher to those who were camping. For those in NoVA/DC/MD area, it was one of the Tyson's Corner Circuit City.

Wow, wonder if any of my coworkers were at that store. There was a serious line at the Reston BestBuy. Fortunately there were some awnings to protect them from the downpours we got today. Apparently the 1st bunch that tried to camp got kicked off the property and told to come back later when the store opened (this was around 1am). Clerk at store said they got around 40. Alot more than that in line it seemed. Lucky me, I get to go pickup my Wii preorder at midnight at EB in Sterling.

The shortage a farce? Nope. The shortage of PS3's is only hurting themselves. There's a point where it goes from being strategic and "must have" to we don't have enough and it's hurting our chances at this console war.

Like I've said before, they're losing money with the consoles ($241 for the 60gb, more for the 20gb) and need to offset losses with the game profits. More consoles sold = greater foothold in consumer hands = games sold.

The reason why they don't have very many ps3s is that it is difficult to manufacture these devices. Blu-ray is a new technology. What is Blu-ray? Most lasers used in devices are red I believe (don't stare into a laser) anyway... Blu-ray uses the blue light to read and write off disks. The bits are written smaller and so you can fit more on a (bluray) disk.

Blue > Red (for this application) on the light spectrum... Violet would be better. (Blue is cooler than violet though and easier)

Speaking of camping, a friend of mine said he was going to look around this afternoon for any chances to get one at a BB or Target that wouldn't allow people to line up until a certain time.

You know there's going to be a mad dash with people hurt there. He's bringing his mouthguard and his retractable nightstick for self-defense. Craziness.

Yea, I stand corrected. Pretty insane....after all is said and done, it's still a game system, and you can get it cheaper in a year or so.
I'm going to go ahead and place myself in the "totally incredulous" category. Sams Club in Spfld, Mo is only getting two, which were spoken for as of yesterday. At least three of the Wal-Marts have campers that have been there since MONDAY. Freaking MONDAY! K-mart isn't getting any, and my ass didn't have any vacation left. With all the overtime I'm making this week, it's better to just sit my tookus here at work rather than wait out in the cold. anyhow.

I am SO glad I didn't want one of these for personal use, and that I don't have a kid. I would be super pissed about this situation had the PS3 been even remotely enticing in the last year and a half.

I looked at the walmart ad while I was there, and I laughed my ass off when it said "PS3 available at 12:01am November 17th" Like you could just stroll on in and pick one up.

They failed to mention the part about needing to camp out 5 days in advance in order to get one

They had tons of cops at my bestbuy because the jerks gave out vouchers wednesday insteand of Friday morning like it said.

I'm still pissed I didn't get one

I just returned from the Sony Style event in NYC... I wasn't in the first 400 to be included in the launch party and initial supply, though.

HOWEVER, they notified us that they would be receiving a shipment in the morning and we could wait for that.
Needless to say, a good 300 of us did just that, and we were all accomodated.

PS3 time! :)

Thank you, Sony!!!

well my walmart only got two systems and they gave out 8 rainchecks because they were supposed to get 10. I have a raincheck and hopefully the next shipment comes before christmas!

Saw on the news last night. Maybe 100 people doing the 50 yard dash at the local Best Buy just to get in line! They had the cops there and everything.

I went to the Lancaster Wal-Mart yesterday to get some dish on the Wii, and I also found out that they cancelled the midnight PS3 launch due to some rowdiness at the nearby Palmdale WM.

my local Fred Meyer only received 6 ps3's. They did get in 75 Wii's though.
There were over 400 people in line this morning as the store decided to hold a raffle to sell the 6. I brought my 2 roommates, but we still didn't win. Not very good odds.

Got one! So did my three buddies, all 60 GB. It took 35 hours of waiting outside a Target. We were the first four. There were 4 60GB and 2 20GB systems.

Witnessed brilliance at a mall where I live. A group of idiots in a Toyota Truck, paintballed the living shit out of this line of people waiting for ps3's, I was lmao as well as astonished at how or even why someone would do that.

Needless to say, I didn't bother going in. It's like a damn zoo out there.

Did this happen to anyone? Not the guys walking buy with the 360, but the rain?

My Wal-Mart camping experience went well. Me and my buddy were the first ones there so the security guard gave us the tip on where to line up after close and when they were giving out tickets. They only had 4 60's and 2 20's but 15 hours later we each walked out with a 60. The weather wasn't even that bad when the wind happened to die down once in a while..

22 Hours. Went relatively well due to having a ridiculous amount of entertainment (The other campers were quite funny and were a pleasure to be around).

We had some tools come later in the night (Like, 11:30~11:45) who were shocked that they couldn't get one. They complained as if they deserved one more than those of us who had been there all fucking day

PICT0267.JPG

I went to Best Buy and got four 20GB's and one 60GB.
Cost me a total of 4k'ish for buying people's spots in line, paying people to sit in line, and buying the consoles, but I should get around 8k off eBay, so it's all good.

There were some idiots camped out for the Wii on the other side of the entrance...
I told them were wiitarded for waiting +72 hours for a Nintendo Wii.
Aren't there supposed to be like 6 million Wii's before years end?

My two brothers waited in line (at a Toys R Us) for a day and a half back when the preorders were announced. They were both excited as hell to have the preorders of the 60gig PS3s in their hands.

Fast forward to today, Launch Day -

One of my brothers just called me and told me that a person from Toys R Us called and said 'We have your 20gig PS3 ready for you to pick up. You have 24 hours to do so."
My brother said he about had a heart attack. He told them "No...I ordered a 60gig PS3" and the Toys R Us employee said "Sony cut our shipment and this is all we have". So yeah...my bros a pretty PISSED right now.

Oh yeah...both by brothers had their preorders sold on Ebay. But that was for 60gig models. So now they get to return the money.

PWND!! Sucks for my bros, but not their fault or Toys R Us.

I'm soooo glad I didn't get involved with this. I get to sit back and laugh.

I gotta say though. You couldn't kill for this type of hype. Deliberately cut short supply to create hype. The media is covering like mad and everyone is talking about it. Exactly what they wanted. Make it look like the system sells out.

Free PR.

This isn't good publicity at all, really. Having your name all over the news in association with a bunch of robberies, thefts, stabbings, and shootings isn't the kind of publicity that any company needs.

People are pissed and there are a lot of people that are going to be opting for Wiis who never had any intention of getting them before (Kind of a consolation prize).

The shortages aren't artificial...that's just wishful thinking at this point in time. If they were artificial, HD-DVD manufacturers wouldn't be having the same problems as Sony at this point in the game. Sony also wouldn't have had a reason to drop their revised amount down from 400K.

All publicity is good, this just makes the console even more of a must-have for the holidays.
