Payday 2

Pay Day 2 is amazing, the DLC is not needed. The best co op FPS I have played to date.

Picked this up a few days ago, but have not installed it (no time). 26GB in its current form. Thinking of putting it on my SSD as moving Steam games, at least in ArmA 3's case, between drives was rather easy. Will hopefully try it myself sometime this or next week.

About 3 days back I grabbed a 4 pack, so I have come extra copies available. If someone and their friends need a copy PM me.

It's that large because the half-ass developers include a bunch of assets from the first game in order for their proprietary engine to run. The fail is strong in this game. Also, once a map is loaded, your drive speed is not a factor. No need to put it on an SSD unless you really want to.

Wow, 21 pages. I didn't even give this game a chance.

It's actually good?

I count 11 pages. ;)

It was better on release, IMO...it's still fun, but Overkill likes to listen to the vocal minority of whiners and change things that don't need changing.

Shows 21 for me. But it still is a fun game. Great at LAN parties.

Played it a bit today with a friend. Only did a few heists, but it seems rather difficult to earn enough money to get skills or weapons. I am going to assume the dumb AI, which can't pick up sacks of cash, isn't helping. :p Any tips?

join up with two humans! it may sound obvious, but as you say the AI is useless. You'll do infinitely better with two other humans.

Yeah I assumed that would be the case. The AI won't even pick up a sack of cash. :D If anyone just got the game and doesn't know the maps and is looking for two people to play with perhaps we can add each other on Steam (we're just playing casually, no mic). And if someone is interested in joining us and doesn't have the game, we can get you a copy for cheap.

Playing this game with less than 3 people SUCKS, period. Many of the missions (especially the ones where you have to move objects/bags) are really designed for 3 or 4 people, because the AI doesn't do shit in regards to completing the objective. They will only (mostly ineffectively) shoot at enemies and revive you if you get downed.

This is one of the few FPS that I really, really enjoy. I really like the idea of trying to pull off a stealth heist, which is really only possible in some cases when you have multiple team members with high end talents (ie. Without Smooth Talker, your TEAM, COLLECTIVELY can only answer 2 Guard Pagers successfully. Smooth Talker allows 4 to your team, but only those with the talent can actually do the answering etc. Other stuff like bagging bodies, C4, lockpicking safes, opening electric locks with jammers etc....can oly be done with high end talents).

I just wish there was at least a little more leaway in how, especially civilians, detect you and actually call the police. You'll just hear an alarm sound and not really be sure etc... I think there should definitely be a complete "pull out cell phone, make call" animation necessary for civs to call and it actually turn on the alarm, or another visible movement (ie pushing an alarm button). A "sound gauge" of some sort would help too, as its difficult to tell who is going to hear a drill or something else, and they should have to well..investigate the damn thing and then go through the animation of calling in order to call it in. . Finally, I'd like to see a LOT bigger paydays with more XP, money etc... if you stealth a mission or a day. Stealth is difficult and in some cases more time consuming, and should be a MUCH bigger reward.

I hope they take this stuff into account when updating the game, and I am glad they keep planning new content. Now, if only they had a Linux client...

Started playing with some random people. A lot more cash flow and XP. :D Bought myself my first shotgun, and will probably save up for an MP5 for my secondary weapon. And you get a free pistol if you join the official Payday 2 Steam group.

Yeah no, I've played this game a LOT (mostly at release, not so much recently after the changes to stealth), I was just saying if anyone wants to get into this game, play it with actual humans.

Saving up for an MP5 at the moment. Weapon upgrades are a bit hard to come by, and the skills are also a bit costly. I tend to spend money on weapons first, though I should probably get some more skills. Have yet to see anyone use C4.

Really? C4 was all the rage early-on. Probably less so now because they added random Titan safes that you MUST drill.

Still, I think TechForcer is one of the best overall builds, unless you want to go pure stealth.

Going to look into C4. So far I have completed all maps in a loud guns blazing fashion. But playing through them stealthily is funner. Found some randoms who were rather recent and finished a few missions without setting off an alarm. Got a lot of cash from that.

But weapon mods are too hard to come buy. Seeing that I am play stealthily I want to mount suppressors onto a good amount of my weapons, but I can't. So all I can use is 1 rifle and 1 pistol, even though I have 10 or so primary and 10 or so secondary weapons.

I take c4 in every mission as it's the best clutch weapon against bulldozers or mass swarm of shields. You can place one at their feet then shoot it and most of the time it kills them instantly.

Agreed, this game was designed strictly for coop, even though I do love to stealth solo at times.

Oh boy, so basically just a reset switch so you get to grind out the same 100 levels over and over again.

No thanks.

I'm not even level 100, but for what it is worth...if anyone wants to give it a go, let me know. I'm willing to walk [H]ard heisters through the full-stealth mode "Framing Frame - Overkill" heist, for a ton of XP and money. I've soloed it myself and have the talents necessary to do it fully stealth. I'm a Ghost / Mastermind hybrid at around level 66, with a few talents in early skills from Tech and Enforcer (like long distance bag throw, move faster with bags etc).

Oh, and for what it is worth, I think the next (or possibly another upcoming) update will contain a female avatar should anyone be interested in that. As far as the Infamy system is concerned, I'm curious what these Infamy perks/skills are...

It's just kind of a joke. Even with pure grinding of Rats Overkill for the last 20-30 levels or so, it still took me about 100 hours to hit level 100. They are expecting people to do that 14 times? Not to mention you are still playing the same heists over and over and over and over.

I played through every map loud. Played through some silent. Tried doing the GO Bank, but someone forgot to answer the phone. Did it in SP, though with spawning civies and the phone it just doesn't work. Can't do both.

Aside from that, I am done. I will continue to finish other missions silently. So far I am in 26 hours. I can probably squeeze a few more hours out of it. If they release more free maps I'll play those. If there is deep discounted DLC I will buy it. Only interested in maps & weapons; masks are worthless to me. I don't see why anyone would replay the same maps over and over again just to raise their level.

Yeah, the game really has become a joke. They nerfed stealth even more by enforcing a 2-bag limit per player on the corpse bagging.

Overkill has no idea what they are doing.

i never liked stealth, but thats just me so i can see why it would cause issues if they screwed it up

Before it was unlimited right? Came very close to pulling the GO Bank off unnoticed, though civilians would detect bags to. So we had to kill them frequently. With less bags it will be even more difficult. Is it for all difficulty modes?

There were a few maps I wanted to pull off stealthily, but at 27 hours in I think I got my money's worth.

600+ hours elite player can do every map in the game any strategy, know all classes, etc, well after this patch the entire game is ruined. Stealth destroyed. Tons more enemies all difficulties with no improvement whatsoever to optimization or AI (and still, somehow, no new maps). In fact, the is AI even worse than before (somehow) because the higher numbers of spawns gives less time to AI computation and lots of times they stop all movement and turn off. All difficulties ruined really, stealth or loud, and there's much less choice in how you play the game now. Most rush methods were removed (simply cut wholesale, in the case of Mallcrasher they even forgot to remove the Expert Driver asset along with the van itself), stealth is almost impossible, loud is much harder and requires old PD1 style chokepoint-and-hold tactics with no thought just mindless SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT HOLD THE LINE SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT. All my friends who play the game every day are raging. This update pleases no one, but after dealing with Overkill for the past few years (I was Payday 1 player too) I'm 100% certain that they are antagonistic to their own customers on purpose, with no other reason than that they hate their own players and that they've found a very effective misleading marketing strategy. Seems strange, I know, but after thousands of heisting hours, listening to the devs bullshit for post after post after post over the years, and seeing them comprehensively destroy the game over and over only to fix it immediately afterwards (both the destroying and the fixing are labeled as "Free Content", which draws new players and gives the outward illusion that they listen to their fanbase) I can come to no other conclusion. They make a good game and then repeatedly ruin it to make the fixes seem like new content, and that they listen and care about their fans. Wow, it actually hurts to type that out and read it out loud. Wow. So true, so disgusting.

This avoids the rest of the problems with the series, namely the countless lies, missing features, longstanding bugs, cut content added as DLC, etc, etc, etc x infinity.

Really bummed, but I should have quit a long time ago tbh. I knew this was going to happen, and at this point the game is something of a macabre fascination that I get morbid entertainment out of because of how fucking horrible the developers treat the product and their fans, but hey, gotta get my money's worth somehow right? Meh. :(

Yeah dude, I quit after the first 130 odd hours I put in. Make no mistake, I definitely got my money's worth, but at this point I would have an extremely hard time recommending the game to any new player, given how the patches have fucked it up.

It's a damn shame because the game really was very good at release...it didn't feel too easy (until you got to really high levels, and even then if you didn't have a good team you could still fail Overkill) and even with all the grinding for levels I still wanted to play it after I hit 100. The gunplay felt much better than the first game, and good overall. Now, I have ZERO interest in the game.

Sounds pretty bad. I for one do not like the newer cop types and it feels like they have too many odd abilities. It just makes it feel too much like a zombie game with super mutant/zombies.

I can see the fun though I don't see how you can put 100+ hours into the game. You must have completed the maps over 30 times! :p Even I have done most of the heists over multiple times. Though I guess if the game was better at launch I could see putting more time into it.

I'll give this update a try myself, and if it is bad I'll just uninstall it unless new maps are released. I do not mind paying for extra heists if they are affordable. Not interested in paying $2-3 per map. Hopefully they improve the game so that becomes reasonable for me. :p

I have generally liked most of the changes they have made to the game and the harder difficulty for shooting it out is good but yeah nerfing stealth was lame mainly because the stealth mechanics aren't all that great to start with. Making it harder to stealth without changing the underlying mechanics doesn't make it better.

New maps are in production and if the outcry is consistent against the stealth changes i have no doubt they will change it back.
