Payday 2

Overkill has the weirdest logic ever. The community asks for new maps and fixes. Overkill "fixes" bugs that no one had issues with, introduces nothing new and just fucks everything up while saying they listen to the community. What community are they listening to....I don't think I'm buying another Overkill game. Payday 2 was my first and last.

New maps are in production and if the outcry is consistent against the stealth changes i have no doubt they will change it back.

Overkill seriously does not give one single fuck about what the community wants, outcry or not. They have proven this time and time again by "fixing" balance issues that never needed fixing, and constantly increasing the difficulty to the desire of...well, no one as far as I can tell.

The only reason at this point why I am looking forward to a Payday 3 announcement is so I can laugh in their face and give them the middle finger, much like they do to their community on a regular basis.

I just don't get the absurd amount of hate really. It's like a massive hyperbole in comparison to any other mainstream shooter developer. I have essentially haven't paid for a single dlc and have received quite a bit of free content since launch. Some of the changes aren't perfect but it's hardly makes them the worst developers ever people tend to make them out to be.

Most of the "free" content you received was promised content cut from launch for one reason or another, and lots of the content that was promised for launch still hasn't appeared in any shape or form. You're clearly an easy customer to please, and Overkill appreciates that even if you don't buy their insulting DLC.

Ok here you go.

I preordered the collectors edition and played the beta for roughly 20 or so hours. I was very excited, because there were about 5-6 different heists. In the final game, there were 2 more, the rest were all rehashes of the bank and the 2 new ones were mostly rehashes with 1 day having a different map. Then, they do absolutely nothing to add more content, but instead change aspects that ruin the game for people. Increased difficulty to the point that you get 3 shotted with best armor, nerf stealth to death, reduce all rewards (money and exp) forcing everyone to grind even more. And they don't listen to ANYTHING posted in the steam forums. There was/is so much outrage there, and nothing is being done to even try to please anyone. That is why.

I loved this game. I could even deal with the rehashed maps at launch, but then they started doing stupid changes instead of making new heists.

And they've done literally nothing except stupid changes and minor free additions/paid DLC updates to the game that are universally overpriced/overadvertised and offer very little in value or additions to the gameplay. I know well, I own them all.

The work they put into hyping this latest update is at least five or ten times the amount that they put into the update itself, to say nothing of the fact that the choices in the update prove they ignore everything the community says and in fact quite probably hate their own community because the patch bears numerous instances of outright malice. I know it might be hard for an outsider to believe, but the hardcore followers of the series will all tell how anti-community Overkill actually is. Their dealings with their fans bear all the signs of the toxic Stockholm Syndrome type anti-community community you find with most MMOs where the goal is to hold the grinders in place for milking.

The last patch was a huge, huge clusterfuck in every way imaginable. One of the reasons Payday 2 kept my interest was because of its unique "stealth" gameplay, which was already underpowered (especially in terms of time spent / reward ratio - it takes a lot longer to stealth something correctly than it does to just go in guns blazing - atop that, it requires your team members to have certain skills/talents as well as to not fuck up and ruin the whole thing - and only on ONE heist do you get something measurably different from a stealth run, and even that reward isn't that great), but they totally screwed stealthing with a HUGE nerf, not to mention jacking up the difficulty on every level of the game. This is only part of the horror that was the most recent patch. It literally seems designed to punish players, to make their progress as slow as possible, in lieu of churning out actual new content.

Like many others in the community, we asked for things llike "please for the love of god more maps", "Make ALL the maps give viable XP and money, instead of having people grind out Rats for XP and Firestarter for money alone", "Add big rewards for completing a level stealth mode without the cops getting called", "let people sell and trade their items and weapons", and "add new skills and update existing ones to give us reasonable counters to new challenges".

We've pretty much gotten the exact opposite

Yeah, game went from fun to not fun in 1 patch. All my friends quit. Instead of new maps, they ruined the game. That sums it up.

anyone still playing this? spent 5hrs on it last night and I'm liking it. most time I've spent on a game in a long time. Took a little bit to get a good squad but then I got sucked in. add me if anyone still plays. (incognito247)

I think i'll be playing this for awhile. new COD is not my cup of tea (hate futuristic FPS), BF is postponed til next year and I like the teamwork on payday 2 although very fast paced.

Is that a transvestite playing?

There was one on that channel that streamed all the time. A devout Christian that likes to hop in TeamSpeak thought "she" was hot. When I explained to him very quickly that it wasn't what he thought it was... Let's just say it was bad. I think he is still sprinkling holy water and clutching his rosary beads today.

Is it possible to unlock at least 1 sniper rifle without buying the DLC? I am level 16 and still don't have access to any.

For what it is worth, I do approve of some of the more recent content-heavy expansions since my last post. There have been some new maps, including Election Day, the stealth-only Shadow Raid, and the new Big Bank which introduces a new "preplanning" setup. New weapons have been added, including the Courier Pack (which puts lots of hidden item drops on maps that can be picked up by any heister and gives everyone the benefit thereof, when they reach a certain amount of them. Typically 5, 10, 15, or 20 depending on the type. Rewards for reaching the required number of a given colored package are weapon attachments, scopes and whatnot - all new, and generally quite useful), the Sniper Pack (the addition of real sniper rifles and attachments unlocked through achievements), The Shotgun Pack (new shotguns), as well as a lot of Community unlocks (join the Payday2 official Steam group for even more free stuff), achievement based unlocks, and some attached to the map packs as well. (ie Shadow Raid map has an optional vault with the armor of Oda Nobunaga inside it. If you team secures it, you unlock the Somen Mempo special mask. Big Bank provide the Falcon rifle, and all of the attachments/customizations for it are unlocked for varying achievements within the Big Bank).

There have also been some mechanics improvements, such as completing heists by stealth convey a bonus on the next heist, XP is still not where I think it should be yet it isn't useless to do anything but Rats/Firestarter so thats an improvement. IMPORTANT: If you enjoy the game at all, do yourself a major favor and pick up the mod known as "HoxHud". It is approved by Overkill and found at the official HoxHud SteamGroup. It has a TON of hud improvements, such as allowing you to restart a heist without killing yourself (if host), shows how many pagers are left activated, if a drill has jammed and its current timer, headshots, and much more. https://steamcommunity.com/groups/hoxhud - start there, follow the instructions from Steam and you can download and install it easily.

I still feel that Stealth is woefully underpowered or rather, directed ONLY at the "sneak past everything" form of stealth, as you only have 4 pagers for your team, per map - and even dominated guards "count" as a pager. Many maps now include extra guards and some like Shadow Raid have tons more. With a few changes, such as "guards who are disarmed and handcuffed don't "count" as a pager", there could be more options such as the quiet "wetwork" team, which I feel should be just as viable for stealth and take as much skill, in a different fashion, as other methods. They certainly can't claim "too much death", because they don't seem to mind you gunning down scores of police in loud modes. I hope with more community requests changes will be made to make stealth a bit more enjoyable.

There was a recent sale on Payday 2 and its DLC. For what its worth, the DLC do provide new content, and often you can even play said content without having them if the host of the server has them (excepting weapon DLC of course). If you enjoy the game its likely worth it to purchase them, especially on sale, as it really gives you a lot of additional content and options. There is a good amount of free DLC and updates too (as well as joining the official Payday 2 Steam Group which gets you all the community unlocks - including a new heist to break the original (British!) Hoxton out of jail, and him as a playable character (in development). Plus, they are running a promo where the more members of the group the more stuff unlocks for the game, currently in development. - http://www.overkillsoftware.com/crimefest/ ), but its likely worthwhile. New players who are interested, let me know and if you're enjoying the game etc.. I may be able to gift you a few packages.

For newcomers, realize that your role in the game changes dramatically as you level up. Things that seem very difficult for you at level 25 (ie such as being able to crack safes by hand, use C4, use a saw, extra long ECM jammers, opening card-locks with ECMs, dominating cops and turning them to your side, making noise and threatening civs) are available when you hit 75+ and have enough skill points for high end spec talents. This is certainly a cooperative game, and it helps to have someone to show you the ropes with care, especially if you're doing anything except a basic "loud" run. Here are some tips to help you get started for the newbies..

-Buy the initial 1 point skill of EVERY tree, or at very least the Mastermind (medic bag) Enforcer (ammo bag) , Ghost (ECM jammer - this last one is semi-optional, but still very useful). Veteran players will get annoyed if you don't have these options, depending on the heist style. For all loud heists and even some quiet ones, medic and ammo bags are always useful. ECMs are useful during stealth attempts and for opening ATMs instantly for extra cash.

-Always have at least one weapon available in your inventory with a silencer on it. This is often best left to be a secondary weapon, like a handgun or SMG, at least to start. The silencer icon is the "diagonal" icon for a barrel attachment. Note, not ALL barrel attachments are silencers. On any mission where the team attempt stealth, silencers are a way to take out a guard without alerting civilians or other cops. Note, if you take out a guard with a silencer (or possibly melee) HE can't fire either without alerting everyone, so make sure that you actually kill the guy. Silencers generally lower the power of your pistol, so go for headshots and multi-tap just to be sure he goes down.

There's quite a bit more I can go into if people are interested. I'll say that the game has improved since the horrid "Death Wish" update a few months back, but still has a ways to go in my opinion. At least they're moving forward. I can provide more info, primers, or PM me if you want to play on Steam; I'm happy to help newbies.

So what about the hackers out there? Holy hell......I am seeing them a lot on the Overkill maps.

They can place 1000 turrets, ECM then insta kill all the bad guys, collet 50 bags of loot from firestarter.....unreal.......Devs dont seem to be doing shit either.

At least in my experience, you run into one of them every so often, but it isn't horribly frequently. Its mostly the kind of thing you say, such as someone dropping extra loot bags or whatever or changing them into more valuable forms. The kind of things that actually affect gameplay, such as being able to kill guards without setting off pagers, spawn tons of auto turrets etc... are rare.

All of these items are generally client-based hacks/trainers and since it is a co-op game, there isn't such a huge impetus to stomp out those who use them; people simply disconnect if they object to it. There are even some glitches in game that don't require any sort of tool, such as on the Shadow Raid heist - if more than one user attempts to pick up Thermite (to cut through sewer grates) or Crowbars (to open boxes ) at the exact same time, due to sync differences between clients, its possible for everyone to get a copy of the item. HoxHud actually has an anti-cheat built into it (which can be turned off if you wish). However, given how it takes a huge amount of XP to make it through higher ranks and once you reach 100, it takes 200 Million in OffShore cash each time to "reset" and go up a Prestige/Infamy level, many players find it a boon if they run into someone who bolsters their offshore or wallet a bit. Furthermore, as all players receive equal shares of game rewards, Overkill can't simply ban those who seem to be in a match with a hacker, lest it affect players who didn't do anything but show up.

Overall, using HoxHud and leaving any match you find disagreeable are the best routes at the moment, but at least in my experience I may only run into a user cheating once every 25 matches or more, so I don't find it rampant

There have been hackers since day 1. Overkill doesn't give a shit about anything except milking the community for more money via weapon packs and bullshit like that. I haven't touched this game since they continually decided to fuck it up with patches.

Amen. Loved the Beta, loved the first few weeks. Then they decided to NOT listen to what the actual community wanted, and instead some made up community that wanted nothing anyone else wanted. People wanted more heists(90% were the fucking bank) and instead we got nerfs all around. I haven't touched this game since they nerfed the XP last year, just isn't worth it.

Kinda bummed out I missed the sale for what $6? or $10? Does anyone have any kind of coupon that drops the price to something reasonable for this game? I'd like to give it a shot at least. Or anyone that has given up on it can you gift it through steam? I don't even think that you can can you? Pm me if you have a coupon for it anyhow.

I just bought all the DLC for this game. Anyone know what the best tree is right now?

When I stopped playing it was a mix of everything, but mostly Tech/Enforcer. Could have changed since then, though.

Depends what you want to focus upon. Mastermind is focused on controlling the situation with civs and enemies (domination and joker) alike, pistol perks, healing (2x health kits and more uses per kit), assets (spotter, Inside Man assets unlocked). Enforcer is heavy combat, ammo (2x ammo bags, more uses per bag), shotgun perks, moving/throwing bags, unlocking the Saw and the Iron Man heaviest armor. Technician is focused on rifles and single shot weapon bonuses, drilling bonuses (faster drilling, faster fixing the drill, silent drilling etc...), upgrading the amount and use of C4 ( carrying more charges, then motion sensors, and eventually opening doors and safes with it), unlocking the Sentry Turret and skills to upgrade it. Ghost tree is focused on stealthy interactions, faster packing of bags, ability to flag enemies while in casing mode, silenced weapon perks, SMG perks, enhanced ECM perks( including allowing them to delay pagers from going off, lengthening the time of the ECM jammer when used, opening electronic locks by consuming a ECM), lockpicking perks (faster lockpicking, eventually being able to open safes silently by hand), Bodybag Perks (carry 2 bodybags at a time, and spawn a Bodybag asset that allows you and others to refill )and even Camera Loops (a way to temporarily disable cameras without shooting them).

In every tree there are some "more important" and many "less important" perks, it is important to note. I personally am primarily Ghost and then Mastermind, but I also have a handful of perks in low-level parts ofthe Enforcer and Tech tree. No matter what you pick, you'll want to do the same in taking some unique "easy to get" perks from other trees. For instance, there isn Enforcer talent that when Aced, allows you to both move faster when carrying loot bags, and throw them farther. There's also one that allows you to use your main weapon while bleeding out. In Mastermind, there is one that allows you to cable-tie civilians faster, but more importantly upgrades your cable-tie count from the standard 2 up to 6 - this is important for many heists, especially in stealth. Tech has a talent that improves either Stability or Accuracy (can't remember) for all single-shot weapons; there is also a Tech talent that decreases the damage you take when Interacting with anything, and one that allows you to use your sights when bleeding out. This is very useful when using items of any sort (ammo, lockpicking etc...) and healing downed players. Ghost has talents for packing/interacting with loot bags faster, faster stamina regeneration, moving faster, and having enemies make less noise when shot or meleed to death (note: if you or they still shoot a loud weapon, others will still hear.). All of these are typically 1 point for standard mode, 3 additional points for Aced and are at the bottom 3 "rungs" of each talent ladder, so relatively easy to secure even out of your main progression.

Hope this helps a bit. Let me know if you have specific questions.

^ nice recap, Xaeos. Who knew this game was so deep? It seems to have far more meta in terms of a 4 player co-op than say Left4Dead2. Title's been on my backlog forever, I guess its finally time to jump in.

I wouldn't really consider the skill tree "deep", you just choose what fits your playstyle. And the "meta" only ever seemed to shift based on what ridiculous nerf Overkill decided to make at the time. The only other time it would shift is if a new heist was added that was made easier by using certain skills.

Cant wait for the old Hoxton to come back, to be honest very happy with the dev team keeping up with updates and listening to the community.

So I got this game on steam summer sale and I want to play it. I never played the first one, hows the learning curve? I dont wanna jump right in not knowing wtf im doing and piss people off.

I've had several instances where people will just boot you for no apparent reason or because you "weren't doing it right", so I guess you will want to make sure you get in a game with other lower-ranked people. Then again, there is a level filter on games so if people want high-level only they can do that.

Or you get the fun assholes who kick you right before a heist ends, so you get nothing for your 30+ minutes of work.

The learning curve isn't too bad for just general "lets go shoot stuff" heisting, but for stealth there are a lot of skill requirements as well as detailed knowledge of the maps/heists.

You can do many of the missions solo. You can practice by yourself so when you join a group and Maverick96 isn't doing it the way you wanted; kick his ass out! :) :)

Heh...I'm pretty jaded about this game/developer, I guess. Mostly because when the game was released I thought it was AWESOME and put like 120 hours into it. When they started fucking it up it really pissed me off because the potential was there for it to be so much better. Even if they had just not touched any of the mechanics/balancing after the first few patches, I think it would have been better than it is today.

I would only recommend soloing in this game as a practice to see the maps/layouts/guard behavior/etc. The AI literally does nothing except shoot at police if/when you "go loud"...won't help you carry bags, do any sort of stealth, etc.

I picked it up during the steam sale I have everything except the big bank and shotgun DLC. Ended up getting to about level 60 in about two weeks but then stopped playing really would like a crew to work with. I play as a Mastermind or More precisely a Pistolmind/Medic

Shoot me a PM with your steam ID and my buddies and I play the game regularly...

Likewise, feel free to send me a PM as well. I'm far from an expert (at least, ever since the stealth nerf. Sigh. One of the biggest issues I have with the game), but I've been playing for awhile and I'd be happy to have some [H]eisters on my team. I'll do the best I can explain new mechanics and such.

@dbu8554 -

Big Bank is a great heist, and while you can play it hosted by another without owning the DLC (I think?), it does convey a nice set of bonuses and it is a new map with some unique features (ie Preplanning, lots of different ways to customize your approach). It provides the "Falcon" assault rifle, which is excellent all around and all of its mods are unlocked by achieving a variety of achievements in Big Bank. I'm not sure if you achieve them while not having the DLC if they "count" for if you buy it later or not.

The Shotgun Pack provides some well..excellent shotguns, not to mention a few masks. Most of their mods are, like the Falcon Rifle from Big Bank, and the Sniper pack weapons, acquired via achievements. Especially if you are spec'ing into the Enforcer tree and thus shotgun perks, the pack provides some unique and powerful additions.

If you have a few bucks or can get them on sale, they both may be worth picking up if you continue to play.

Ungh i fucking hate masks I hate playing missions farming for weapon parts and getting mask crap honestly I just do not get it. One of my main problems with the game is all the mask shit it makes no sense to me.

As a mastermind I never use shotguns anymore usually my Sig 553 I think rifle and I with the Bronco 44 it does 100+ damage per shot with my perks and if I go down and kill someone with it I get revived which is fucking awesome really.

My problem with Big Bank is without a crew its damn near impossible.

I would love to get back into it, but I just started school and so between school/full time job/house remodel I do not have free time.

way more excited about the hotline Miami dlc than the BF4. there better bee some epic beats playing throughout the whole thing. :D

Is there a [H] group for Payday 2? I've only played the game for an hour or two and suck at it. Would love to join up with some people that could show me around.
